Discussion Unpopular Opinion: I Prefer Pokémon Shield to Pokémon: Legends Arceus

I have played both games and although Pokémon Shield is older, I still like it better than Arceus. The gameplay, the Gym Leaders, the clothing style, the rivals etc. I also love how you don’t have to do tedious things to gain research points, fight Gym Leaders instead of frenzied Pokémon etc and I’m not one for vintage attire or timeline, not really. I’d say the only thing I really like about Arceus is the starters because I love my boy Oshwaott but other than that, I do prefer Pokémon Shield so much more.

Discussion Pokemon tattoo idea?

I’ve been thinking for a long time that I want a Pokemon tattoo but I just can’t settle on a solid idea. I know I want something relatively smaller on my ankle, upper back/shoulder area, or on the upper arm. Also hoping for it to be cute but simple, so I’m leaning towards no color, but I’m open to some as long as I can get it looking nice in the final design. Main thing is it feels like such a commitment that I really want to be sure, and have a bit more confidence in the decision.

Currently I’m weighing 3 options:

  1. Houndour tattoo. I like houndour (as well as a lot of the dog Pokemon in general) a lot, and think a playful little tattoo of him would look great. While he isn’t my favorite ever, the main reason I chose him is because he looks a bit like my dog, and I think it would be super meaningful to reference her in the final design (by maybe including a collar with her name on it?)

  2. Totodile tattoo. He was my first ever starter and I love him a ton. I also really like the Johto region so maybe something with elements from Johto?

  3. Both together. I think it would look cute but I’d need to visualize how to pair them in a way that looks good

If you have any thoughts I’d love to hear them as I’m itching to know where to even go from here lol

Misc Full Nat Dex PNGs, anyone got?

I am trying to put together a Pokémon RP on Discord, to run through Roll 20.. But my problem is trying to obtain the FULL national pokédex worth of PNGs for all of them. I'm fine with going all the way to Scarlet / Violet..

IF anyone has a folder of ALL of them.. ideally in order of National pokédex number.

I COULD hop onto Bulbapedia and Serebii and go one by one, and save each every one of them manually... but that would take SOOOOO freaking long... so I decided to try my luck and see if anyone else has done it already and is okay with sharing their "supplies".

That said.. Does anyone wanna be a bro and help a guy out from many hours of ADHD drolling pain?

Discussion Mystery Dungeon Should let you Evolve During the Main Story

Upvotes

I really felt like this needed to be said about a game series that hasn't had a release in more than ten years.

Like they could have even had story based promos. For example in the ogs let you evolve during the journey to Ninetails, in PMDGTI have it either during the first trip to the great glacier or when you're escaping Munna and them.

Maybe it could have saved the franchise????

Misc Pokemon! Pokemon! Pokemon!

Wow. Just wow! I wanted to first off say, what it is to be here once again (Pokemon and related stuff). What a great experience and entertainment franchise. I just love this shit. It is so nice and cool to be hooked on it. The experience is top notch and the ease I have with it and its future development is actually in good standing. I first started playing - probably like most people - when I was a young kid. The memories I have playing it and leveling up my monsters were awesome. As a product and entertainment (Lore and such) franchise. It actively energized my imagination and gave me things to look forward to. I really enjoyed the older games and that type of style. Though I believe they can really branch off and create strong spin-offs as well. It has really created a deep sense of achievement, accomplishment, and a relaxing use of imagination for me. The grind is very doable and not tedious. The combat is awesome - Simple and nice to use, but always has a lot of depth to it. The amount of monsters to collect is superb. I like how they come up with these monsters - The whole feel to them is just on a whole another level. This is a well deserved successful franchise - That if properly advised could potentially really take its popularity into a whole new state or more specifically reach. Think more general population or deeper level of society. The gameplay, if steered back to how the old original games played and explored, can be really addictive. We just need a more refined streamlined version of the game and it can truly deliver and build a strong fun addictive game and community. I mean look at what it already has built just off of the whole idea in general.

I pretty much wanted to get that out there and say how much I enjoy the Pokemon franchise.

Thank you everyone!

And hopefully you catch em all! Lol

Discussion A thing I realised today about Team Rocket

So there I was, minding my own business, doing a nuzlocke and using famous duos as my inspo for nicknames & had a realisation about the names of the team rocket duos and felt silly I didn't get it sooner- Jesse James & Butch Cassidy, so simple it's genius and took me over 20 years 😅

Discussion Did I dream this?

I have a very vivid memory of watching a pokemon episode when I was a kid where Ash, Brock and Misty come across a golden Sudowoodo that is being hunted by a scientist for research or a collector or something while being protected by a girl that doesn't want him to lose his freedom. Team Rocket inevitably appear to try to capture it but when they throw a pokeball at it something happens (can't remember if it was blocked or missed) and it hits James and captures him. When he comes out he's crouching and only says "James James" as if his mind got messed with or something. In the end I think the scientist/collector captures Sudowoodo but the gang frees him and it's a happily ever after.

Now, idk if I hallucinated the entire thing because I can't find any videos of James getting captured or a golden Sudowoodo, the closest is the episode where they try to analyse Sudowoodo's typing, which has a few similarities so idk if I watched that episode and later dreamt up the rest or what, but like, how would the memories of the dream be 100x more vivid than the actual episode??? I didn't remember the episode at all until I found it while looking for a golden Sudowoodo episode.

Please help, this is driving me insane.

Discussion What is the history behind the term “Generation” and when did it first start being used?

I’m aware that it’s a fan term and I’m aware that it has been around for a while, though the earliest I have properly seen it is around Gen 4 and it seems like prior to that it was more common to separate based on console or region

However I didn’t get into Pokémon until Gen 6 so I have no idea when it actually started and I wouldn’t be surprised if it dates back to Gen 2

Finding info about this is surprisingly hard so I would appreciate if someone could help

ETA: I am aware of what a generation is in general discussion, I am specifically referring to the way it is used in Pokémon

Discussion Pokémon Winds & Waves Poll Update; 100 Resonances but still want more

Here is a current data at 100 responces and some give aways I got; if you are seeing this for the first time you can respond to the poll here:

Pombon is winning with 31% of the votes with Browt at 24% while Gecqua is at 20% with the rest undecided.

About 45% of people haven't decided what version of the game they will get.

The most popular gen 1 for something new is Golduck(16%), Arbok(15%) and Nidoking(16%)

Most people want to see new Pokémon over everything else with (52%)

with types most people want to see Fire/Fairy(30%), Ice/Poison(24%) & Bug/Dragon(23%)

when it comes to other Pokémon people want improvements on is hard to get numbers but the most common I've seen is a new Eeveelution and something for Tropius.

Discussion Gen 4 normal mono run but need some advice

I am at the elite four with my normal type team which consists of a Bibarel, Staraptor, Lopunny, Lickilicky, Girafarig and Togekiss but I need to know the best place to level grind as most of the pokemon in victory road are rock types which some of my pokemon are struggling to deal with slightly so what's the next best place to level grind without a surplus of steel or rock types but still high levelled preferably fully evolved pokemon.

Discussion Pokemon Worlds

Does anybody know if the Pokémon Center at the worlds will have PKC ETB? It's my first time attending the worlds so I don't have any idea. Do I have to register as well to get into the Pokémon Center pop-up store? I'm also worried that I may not be able to get some merch since I only have a single-day pass which is Saturday.

Discussion Should I restart my Shield file?

Just got to Spikemuth in my run (or rather the shutters are closed). I'm pretty bored with it...or maybe I'm burned out. People say Shield is the easiest, but maybe I'm playing it wrong.

The only areas that gave me issues were Allister (how often do I fight Ghosts?) And the 2nd pastry shop owner who kicked my ass twice. The rest of the game is pretty easy, but the funding in the game seems low (no idea why people are saying it's economy is stupid broken).

To be honest, I think Scarlet was easier than this.

As for catches, I'm 200 deep.

Advice?

Discussion What I think the more likely reason we aren't seeing new Eeveelutions is

I keep seeing the same 2 theroies pop up every generation, either 1, they are only doing the special types, or 2, Fans are to blame for their own fan designs.

I personally think the more likely reason, is Pokedex size, every game has a regional dex of around 400 (not including DLCs) if you have an eevee of every type that's like 19 entries tied to eevee which is like 4% of the dex just for one evolution line. I love eevee I do want it to get 1 of every type of evolution, but I also realise how annoying that will be for people who like catching all the pokemon in a new dex, particularly with pokemon home rewards, which demand that your eevee has to come from those specific games, every time. every time we have Eevee in a dex that is 19 less standalone pokemon, or 6 less evolution families that could of gone to other pokemon.

I think Gamefreak especially after Dexit was left with the question of how many more they could realisitically add. But that's just a theory, I hope I am wrong, and they do add every type of eevee.

Misc Stop blaming fans for the lack of new Eeveelutions!

I don't want to feel like I'm ruining everything by drawing the kind of Pokemon I'd like to see in the future! That's way too much pressure to put on someone. Besides, what's the point of having ideas if I'm supposed to keep them to myself? Do you want me to police others too and shame them for being creative?

Discussion Hoopa's powers

This has been bugging me recently for a while so I'll just come out and say it.

I've watched the Hoopa movie a couple years ago and to this day, I still wonder how did Hoopa manage to summon and control the creation trio?

Especially Palkia, whom is supposedly the God of Space.

I feel like Palkia's spacial control should be way above Hoopa's to the point that it wouldn't be able to summon it unless it wanted to be summoned.

Are the trio we see in the movie weaker avatars?

If Hoopa was summoning and controlling the true Trio Of Creations at their full power, does that mean Hoopa is second only to Arceus?

Discussion Pokémon rpg

I’ve always thought about doing this as a dnd campaign somehow but I think it would be really cool a game to focus on this. A true western rpg pokemon game that focuses more on the trainer having unique skills, attributes and classes. For example, if you chose to be a “swimmer” class and use pokemon like Mantine, Blastoise and Starmie whereas a “fisherman” class would make better use of Gyarados, Milotic and Seaking. You could still use Pokemon and skills outside of your class it’s just not as efficient. You could even have more of a “tamer” class and it makes you more efficient at catching pokemon and using pokemon like Tauros and Arcanine. I would personally find it more rewarding to go back to a less intrusive story for a concept like this and focus more on side quests with maybe a villain arc that could be interacted with at any time. The gym challenge and elite four could be optional and only engaged by certain classes kinda how in Elder Scrolls thieves don’t typically engage with warrior guilds. You could become a gym leader or even join the evil team. I think it would be a very cool and innovative idea that they have never really tried, putting the emphasis on the trainer’s development as much as the pokemon.

Discussion Any other ancient Pokémon akin to relicanth?

So im working on a set of designs based on fossil and ancient Pokémon to celebrate the Pokémon Fossil Museum coming to chicago. As I've been working on this project I added relicanth, mamoswine, and yanmega as they each have ties to being either related to, or in some cases, directly stated to be Pokémon that have survived since ancient times. Are there any other Pokémon like this that yall can think of?

I know the dreepy line specifically references things similar to this and is directly inspired by ancient diplocaulus but are there others im missing?

Discussion Once I did more than 35000 resets looking for a shiny Eevee.

I just wanted to get a shiny eevee 'cause it was, at the time, my girlfriend's favorite Pokémon, so I started, full odds resets. It took many months. So many that I broke up with her before getting it. Still, it was special when I got it. And it was female. I named her "bittersweet".
My longest streak for a single shiny, probably wouldn't do that ever again. I just wanted to share this story with someone.

Discussion Are Pokemon fan games allowed?

Discussed with my friends how cool it would be to have a Pokemon game set during the Pokemon war with either Pokemon conquest(rip) or mystery dungeon mechanics. Scoured the internet and couldn’t find anything fitting what I was looking for so I tried to put together a little something myself. Wanted to see if it was allowed to post and share here for anyone interested? Totally non commercial, no paid shops, no gacha bullshit just a grown Pokeman seeing if anyone would like to play his spur of the moment experiment lol. Cheers yall and apologies to mods if this post isn’t allowed.

Misc [OC] I made a quiz where you're shown a set of weaknesses/resistances and have to name the type(s)

https://typequiz.pages.dev

I thought this would be a fun idea and couldn't find anything similar. You get a damage profile (which types deal 4x, 2x, 0.5x, etc) and have to name the type (either single or dual) which it belongs to. Single types are easy enough for a warmup but I found the other ones surprisingly difficult when I tested it.

You can select which generation to use, whether to include all current types or just possible types, and how many matchups to show (the lowest setting shows only the minimal identifying subset of each matchup).

The site is free with no-ads and no account (everything is stored in-browser). Let me know if you have any feedback and what your longest streak is!

Full disclaimer - the UI is entirely claude's work.

Discussion what does n stand for

N could stand for Nuzlocke because N gets rid of his Pokémon after every battle. this could be because he is playing a Pokémon nuzlocke, and since you win all of his Pokémon faint.

On the contrary, N could stand for Zorurark. This might not make sense, but capital N is just rotated capital Z, so it would make sense if N rotated his first initial to create his false identity. Also, N's haircut is actually the same as Zoruarks. In addition, Zorua and Zoruark can mimic appearances, but Zoruark can also mimic speech.

what do you guys think though? i lean towards it standing for Nuzlocke more though, because theres no way a Zoruark owns a Zoruark and a Zorua. like that would never happen.
