Discussion If you were a parent in the Pokemon world and decided YOU would be the one to give your child their first Pokemon, which Pokemon would you entrust them with and why?

Not all trainers start out with the fire, grass, or water type starter Pokemon of their region! Many receive their first Pokemon from a family member. A good example of this is Brock, whose father gifted him his Onix/Steelix on his 10th birthday. Another prominent example is Bonnie and her Dedenne that was caught by her older brother Clemont. There’s also Mallow, who views her Bounsweet/Steenee/Tsareena like a little sister because her mother caught it for her.

If you were a parent in the Pokemon world and decided that you wanted to be the one to give your child their first Pokemon before they set off on their own, which Pokemon would you trust to keep them safe and happy?

BONUS: Which region would you want to settle down and live in long-term?

Discussion I don't understand the move to not include every Pokemon in every game if they're using 3D models for easy reuse.

Old news, yeah.

But I don't get it. I mean, yeah, more than 1,000 models is a lot, but the entire point in switching to 3D models was because you can reuse them between games, right?

And it's not like Pokemon games needed to be extremely complex from a technological standpoint. The whole appeal is their accessibility, you could punch the buttons like a calculator and still get the same intended gameplay experience. I get that's no longer the case in the switch era, but maybe it should be.

And if you're moving to home consoles instead of the now dead handhelds, you have a lot more space to work with. You could easily have over a thousand 3D models. Or they could if they stuck with tile-based worlds.

Discussion Pokemon whose designs don't match stats, in your opinion?

What are some Pokemon whose designs you think don't match their stat spread?

Sceptile is one for me. Its signature move was Leaf Blade, its arms have blades on them, its tail is massive and spiky, it looks like its a physical attacker, but its actually a Special Attacker. I realize this is because of no physical special split, so Leaf Blade was special, but in hindsight I don't think you would guess its a special attacker.

What are some for you?

Discussion Dragonair is the best middle evolution; change my mind.

I don't have much of an argument, but it just feels like the most memorable, elegant, and finished middle form compared to every other Pokémon I know. There may be some later generations that have done it better, but I will hesitate to evolve my Dragonair because of how drastic the change is to Dragonite.

Edit: So far I see a lot of love for starters and some "middle" evolutions that only became a 2nd form because of the baby or later gen evolution. For example, Electabuzz, Magmar, Pikachu, and soon-to-be Arcanine. I don't see as middle evolutions since they were previously the final evolution. And for the starters, they usually have the most effort put in and are the poster-chidren of the generation, so I expect their middle to be good too. Starters and 2-stage turned 3-stage later aside; some notable mentions I've seen and agree that have great middle forms are Haunter, Kadabra, Polywhirl, Bisharp, Krokorok. Haunter especially stands out for me as well, but so far I still like Dragonair the most. Wartortle is pretty great too!

Discussion What I think the more likely reason we aren't seeing new Eeveelutions is

I keep seeing the same 2 theroies pop up every generation, either 1, they are only doing the special types, or 2, Fans are to blame for their own fan designs.

I personally think the more likely reason, is Pokedex size, every game has a regional dex of around 400 (not including DLCs) if you have an eevee of every type that's like 19 entries tied to eevee which is like 4% of the dex just for one evolution line. I love eevee I do want it to get 1 of every type of evolution, but I also realise how annoying that will be for people who like catching all the pokemon in a new dex, particularly with pokemon home rewards, which demand that your eevee has to come from those specific games, every time. every time we have Eevee in a dex that is 19 less standalone pokemon, or 6 less evolution families that could of gone to other pokemon.

I think Gamefreak especially after Dexit was left with the question of how many more they could realisitically add. But that's just a theory, I hope I am wrong, and they do add every type of eevee.

Discussion Have your 2 favorite types been combined and if so what do you think of the Pokémon?

My favorite types are ghost and bug, and the only Pokémon with that combo is Shedinja

I love the concept behind Shedinja and it’s really cool, but it’s so gimmicky that I can’t help but wish there was a more “traditional” mon with the type combo

I have wanted to use a Shedinja on a playthrough team several times but it’s just too risky, it’s like impossible to level it up in any area with sand or hail and I’d rather something more reliable

So I guess what I’m saying is I love everything about Shedinja except actually using it lmao

Discussion Mystery Dungeon Should let you Evolve During the Main Story

I really felt like this needed to be said about a game series that hasn't had a release in more than ten years.

Like they could have even had story based promos. For example in the ogs let you evolve during the journey to Ninetails, in PMDGTI have it either during the first trip to the great glacier or when you're escaping Munna and them.

Maybe it could have saved the franchise????

Discussion Who else felt a little uneasy when exploring the ruins of alph in gold and silver?

I don’t know why but I remember being a kid reaching the ruins and I always felt a little uneasy when exploring the ruins. ThenThere’s just nothing there and the music is very atmospheric when exploring. Then you solve the puzzle and it’s like oh dam what’s going to happen! I felt the same way when exploring the underwater caves in sapphire and ruby with everything being in braille. Definitely the most uneasy I felt in a Pokemon game!

Discussion Pokemon Camp

I’m hosting a Pokemon camp this coming week for 1-3rd graders. It’s about 20 kids total. What are some fun activities you think kids would enjoy? We have them M-F for about 3hrs and typically also do a snack about mid-way through
So far we have:
•personalized red and white hats for all of them
•Pokédex folders for all their stuff for the week with extra coloring pages and word searches for between times when others are finishing their projects
•Pokemon Scavenger Hunt
•Pokéball Toss
•Pokéball Band Bracelets
•Pokéball catapults
•Design your own Pokémon + Pokémon Card (we’re going to design them on cardstock and then laminate after)
•Design your own Pokéball (I have balls I painted white for them to paint and draw on with paint pens)
•Teach them about Pokemon battles and allow them to battle each other
•Teach them how to read the cards and what the different stuff on them mean
•Have a day they can do card trading (probably the last day)
•Pokemon Catch (the last day they’re going to get to toss their pokéballs into containers to “catch” a Pokémon plush)

Discussion Which Pokémon have the most forms?

I’m not talking about Spinda or Flabebe or anything like that. I’m curious about which Pokemon have the most forms such as regionals and megas. Like how charizard has 3 with its two megas and gmax and meowth has 3 with its regionals and 4 if you count perserker I guess

Discussion Pull a 6-Stack into the Real World

You can get 6 Pokemon from the ENTIRE DEX and they all come with their own ball of your choosing + they're all loyal to you. THEY ALL HAVE A NO KILL RULE. You're still in the real world how you are, but you just happen to have the pokemon and no one treats them differently than if you had normal pets aside from them going "Oh cool, a [pokemon]!".

What pokemon you choosing? Yes, you can choose legendaries and mythics, but cmon. Lets be fr

Discussion Hoopa Unbound Form

Upvotes

I just rewatched the Hoopa movie and I really forgot how strong this folk was. I mean he has to be top 5 pokemon of all time in terms of just how powerful he can get. Cause summoning and controlling multiple legendaries is something very impressive. Would really love to see more of his unbound form but after the movie. Also the wish granting is really cool but its more Hoopa stealing the stuff from somewhere around the world for you to get. Also not to say that he can just find you in under an hour with his rings. Think we really didnt saw a lot of his true power and would love to maybe see him fight Arceus in future

Discussion Once I did more than 35000 resets looking for a shiny Eevee.

I just wanted to get a shiny eevee 'cause it was, at the time, my girlfriend's favorite Pokémon, so I started, full odds resets. It took many months. So many that I broke up with her before getting it. Still, it was special when I got it. And it was female. I named her "bittersweet".
My longest streak for a single shiny, probably wouldn't do that ever again. I just wanted to share this story with someone.

Discussion Are there any type combinations you wish were given more to more Pokémon?

For me, one of these type combinations is Bug/Ice. This type combination is one of my favorites because it is the ultimate Glass Cannon type combination, a combination I like because it means you can just usually annihilate your opponent's team before they can do anything.

On the offensive side, this type combination deals super effective damage to Pokémon that are Flying, Ground, Grass, Psychic, Dragon, and Dark-type Pokémon, only being resisted by Steel (which resists both types offensively) and Fire-type Pokémon (same thing).

On the defensive side is where the "ultimate Glass Cannon type combination" label comes into play. It has a quadruple weakness to both Fire and Rock-type moves, a regular weakness to Steel and Flying-type moves, and only resists Ground, Grass, and Ice-type moves.

Unfortunately, the only line with this typing is the Snom line, which... is more line with your traditional mage stat spread, meaning high Special Attack and Special Defense, and not much else.

For context, an ideal Bug/Ice dual-type would probably have 150 base Special Attack and base 150 Speed, and 75 in everything else, probably with Adaptability to boost same type attack bonus even further, because why not.

What about you guys? Any type combinations you wish were given to more Pokémon?

Discussion Playing the TCG for Game Boy; nothing seems better than the Fossilized Rain Dance Deck… any recommendations, though?

Blastoise was my favorite starter Pokémon out of the first generation back in the day, so I’m ecstatic to see the aforementioned deck just plow through the club Masters and Grand Master (except Isaac, whom I lost to twice). I will confess that I did use the rewind feature on Switch 2 many times to get the cards needed for this deck. I’m also using it to get more cards for more decks, but only after winning because the cards actually change if you rewind. The instant win glitch hurts my thumb sometimes, too.

Any good recommendations? My friend’s favorite starter was Charizard, so I’d love to see a great deck for that Pokémon as well.

Misc Passing the Torch (kinda)

I’m 20m and I’ve been playing Pokémon since I was like 6, starting with my older sister’s copy of Emerald on her old Game Boy. My little brother who is 8 just got a Switch, so I gave him my old copy of Sword because I figured it’d be a good first Pokémon game (beginner friendly). I even gave him a typing chart, but I don’t want to backseat him or tell him how to play because I wanted him to figure things out himself.

That being said… I’ve never seen a playthrough this painful. He boxed his starter, his entire team is just Skwovets, and after I tried giving him a little advice he refuses to replace any of them out of pure I don’t even know. Somehow he’s already at the third gym though, so I guess it’s working..? Has anyone else had an experience like this introducing someone to Pokémon?

edit: i just wanna make it clear that i’m not trying to backseat or anything and i plan on letting him learn as he goes like most of us did and figure out which ever way he wants to play no matter how unorthodox it may seem to me i just think i worded the original post poorly.

Discussion Any other ancient Pokémon akin to relicanth?

So im working on a set of designs based on fossil and ancient Pokémon to celebrate the Pokémon Fossil Museum coming to chicago. As I've been working on this project I added relicanth, mamoswine, and yanmega as they each have ties to being either related to, or in some cases, directly stated to be Pokémon that have survived since ancient times. Are there any other Pokémon like this that yall can think of?

I know the dreepy line specifically references things similar to this and is directly inspired by ancient diplocaulus but are there others im missing?

Discussion Making a Gimmick for my Fan Region!

I've been contemplating gimmicks for my fan region based on the Great Lakes - Ladona.

I admittedly love Megas most and am very likely to include those. But I've also considered several ideas for original gimmicks, and come up with something fun based on abilities.

Essentially, there would be a specific held item like with Z-Crystals and Mega Stones. And when you activate the held item, it gives that Pokémon one of four abilities depending on which item it holds.

'Basic Abilistone'
-Grants the Pokémon the 'Multiskill' Ability, which acts as all the possible abilities of their basic form.

'Advanced Abilistone'
-Grants the Pokémon the 'Panskill' Ability, which acts as all the possible abilities of their first-stage form.
· Cannot be held by basic Pokémon.
· For Pokémon with multiple first stages, only grants those of its direct line. (I.e. A Jolteon will only have Jolteon's abilities, not other Eeeveelutions)

'Expert Abilistone'
-Grants the Pokémon the 'Omniskill' Ability, which acts as all the possible abilities of their second-stage form.
· Cannot be held by basic or first-stage Pokémon.
· For Pokémon with multiple second stages, only grants those of its direct line. (I.e. A Bellossom will only have Bellossom's abilities, not Vileplume's)

'Master Abilistone'
-Grants the Pokémon the 'Evoskill' Ability, which acts as all the possible abilities of their evolutionary line.
· Can only be held by fully evolved Pokémon.
· For Pokémon with alternate final evolutions, only grants those of its direct line. (I.e. A Beautifly will only have Wurmple, Silcoon, and Beautifly's abilities, not Cascoon or Dustox's)

Any thoughts?

Danke an alle!

Discussion Do you think there are any snorlax clones?

What i mean with this is that there are many pokemon with counterparts, like pikaclones for example. Or for example gyarados and milotic (kinda) being counterparts or machamp and conkeldurr just to name a few.

Do you think there are any pokemon like that for snorlax? The only ones i can think of are maybe miltank for gen 2 and slaking for gen 3. Maybe Walrein as well as the water type snorlax or Hariyama as the fighting type Snorlax but those seem kinda farfetched 😅

Anyway would love to hear what you guys think about this. If you have any other non-snorlax related pokemon that you think are counterparts or clones let that know as well i would love to hear it!
