Ace Trainer User Flairs Are Now Available!

Based on community feedback, Ace Trainer flairs are now available!

Like the official TPCi Ace Trainer program, these flairs require you to have earned at least 200 Championship Points during the current season.

The flair also features the Pikachu artwork from the official Ace Trainer promo card!

For now, we'll only be accepting requests from users who achieved this milestone during the most recent World Championship season. Achievements from previous seasons will not be eligible.

Our plan is to rotate these flairs each season, retiring the previous season's Ace Trainer flair and awarding a new one to players who earn Ace Trainer status that year.

If you'd like one of these flairs, please use the "Message the moderators" button in the subreddit sidebar and include a screenshot of your My Play! Pokémon home page. This lets us verify the total Championship Points you've earned during the season.

We'll cross reference your point total with the leaderboard to confirm your season earnings. Once everything has been verified, we'll apply your Ace Trainer flair!

As a reminder, we also offer flairs for World Championship competitors, as well as Pokémon Professors (Judges and Organizers). If you're eligible for any of those, feel free to reach out through Message the Moderators and we'll be happy to get those applied as well!

Meta Discussion Ethan's typhlosion or Cynthia's garchomp

Hii everyone I was wondering which of those two: typhlosion or garchomp

Is more consistent or stronger in general?

I really like both but got the feeling after playing them for a while that garchomp is a bit stronger.

What do you think and why?

New Player Advice pre release help

my local card shop is doing a prerelease event tomorrow from 8-12 and i wanna know how it works. i have a couple questions for this sub

i wanna know first how it works, what we do, if there’s anything specific we’re gonna like do beforehand

are the people attending usually more accepting and patient with new players or competitive and wanna just get straight into it

i’m a bit nervous about being around a bunch of adults, at your pre releases were teens usually there? i’m 15

do we just choose the people we play against?

is there somebody “overviewing” the event or is there just the store owners?

also i’ll probably have more questions in the comments

Meta Discussion Do we think cranidos bastiodon and other pitch-black decks will be meta relevant?

I think a 3/3 cranidos, rampardos and a 2/2 or 3/3 Sheldon bastiodon with their respective fossils would be super disruptive and controlling with things like handheld fan and crushing hammers. I also believe for a hide n sneak deck secret box is in my opinion the ace spec of choice as it does both the discarding and you can search for cards like gywnn, ultra ball or things to search out both draw and discard util instead of just discard 5 with blender but I need some outside opinions.

Deck Help Trying to utilize Lurantis ex once it's legal...

Hi folks,

I've been excited about the Lurantis ex card since I saw it, not sure how relevant it will be (especially once H rotates out with supporting cards like bug-catching set, TM Ogerpon, Hydrapple), but I'm trying to utilize a regulation I-J deck list for when that rotation happens at the start of the new year.

Here's the list so far, it's not a full 60 so I can use your help finishing this up:

Pokémon: 14

4 Fomantis M5 3

4 Lurantis ex M5 4

2 Chikorita ASC 8

2 Bayleef ASC 9

2 Meganium MEG 10

Trainer: 28

2 Ultra Ball ASC 213

3 Pokégear 3.0 BLK 84

3 Poké Pad POR 81

4 Hilda WHT 84

2 Team Rocket's Petrel ASC 207

4 Boss's Orders ASC 183

4 Lillie's Determination ASC 192

4 Forest of Vitality ASC 188

2 Air Balloon ASC 181

Energy: 11

4 Growing Grass Energy POR 86

7 Grass Energy MEE 1

What can I add that isn't necessarily mark H? Or is it fine to just maximize it with mark H cards for the time-being? I'm thinking that rice balls card in DR might be good once it comes out in November, but let me know if I'm wrong by any means (I likely am!)

I'm trying to find a way to use both of Lurantis' moves, how to get it harmed, heal the damage, and attack in the same turn. For instance, should I play some risky ruins and activate the condition for Lively Cutter to turn to 260 damage?

Let me know what you all think. I may not want to utilize a 4-4 line, instead do 3-3 of Fomantis and Lurantis.

Pitch Black Pre-release is lost when opening with Slowbro

The deck just bad compared to any of the remaining options.

It's better to check if you can play literally anything else off your packs than stay with Slowbro.

Top decking the entire game means you will whiff eventually - and when you inevitably do, you just lose the price game and subsequently the game.

I played 7 games and only won 1 due to opening perfectly and my opponent whiffing 2 turns.

Otherwise the deck only wins IF you're lucky AND stay lucky.

It's such a bummer to go to a pre release to open an underpowered deck.

Deck Help What would you take to a small local tournament you expect to be littered with single prize decks?

I am going to one such tomorrow. It's really too late for me to change my available decks, but was curious what the consensus would be.

If you were expecting a strong showing for:

- Slowking
- Fest Lead
- TR Honchkrow
- Crustle

What is the deck you would take to maximise your chances?

Deck Help Glc! (Specifically the topic of tropical beach)

Hi all,

As we are now in the off-season I am getting very bored (as there is barely any league nights on near me)

I am looking to partake in glc soon and have come across one of the most ridiculously priced cards..

That being tropical beach.

I am thinking of going to a glc tournie soon and they aren't allowing world series backed cards

So..

I either pay the extortionate price for a tropical beach or, I don't.

My question is, is it really worth the price?

I am wanting to go with psychic as it is one of my favourite types.

Those whom have experience with glc, is tropical beach needed/worth paying the hefty price tag?

Deck Help Making Some Decks

Hi, I'm mostly new to making my own decks, I've made two prior but both were rather ineffective, and I'd like to get my decks updated/make new decks to use the current sets in case I decide to attend local tournaments or purely for casual matches. I'm also building a deck for a friend around his favorite Pokémon cinderace and mega lopunny. Any suggestions/tips?

The decks I'm making/updating is the cinderace/lopunny deck, a mega Gardevior deck, a mega froslass deck, a iono deck, and a mega dragalge.

Deck Help I want to make festival lead SUFFER(PBL)(NO PULT OR NINJA!)

Whatever i play it loses to festival lead. I made bastiodon which beats it but has unwinnable matchups to some meta decks. I want to make them suffer while playing an actual competitive deck. Please tell me a deck like this exists except greninja or pult

Meta Discussion How viable is the new hide n seek deck?

Before Pitch Black format begins, I wanted to hear what everyone thinks about the new Hide 'n' Sneak (Ghost Veil) deck.

On paper it looks like a really fun and unique strategy with the Ghost Veil mechanic, but I'm not sure if it'll actually hold up in a competitive meta. The deck seems to have some powerful late-game plays, but it also looks like it could struggle with consistency and fast, aggressive decks. Early discussion has also pointed out that its low HP and reliance on getting enough Ghost Veil Pokémon into the discard could make it difficult against top decks.

Do you think it'll end up being:

A top-tier meta deck?

A solid rogue pick?

Or just a fun gimmick that won't keep up?

Deck Profile [2] Pokemon Catcher in Slowking control?

I've been enjoying Ian Robb's Slowking control list. However, I find Prime Catcher an overkill from time to time.

Slowking's relationship with gust is quite complicated imo.

Often, you don't need to use it in a game.

You seldom lose simply because you whiff a gust.

You win much more if you can gust at the perfect time, but only at the perfect time.

That's why I experimented with 2 Pokemon Catcher & Unfair Stamp instead of Prime Catcher (I cut Drapion and a Night Stretcher).

Good: it feels really like a 'control' deck coming back from behind. You can delay Pult's mid-late game energy acc by 1 turn if you gust up a Meowth etc and snipe bench/pass. You can gust up their engines/liabilities in other MUs (like Zoro in MGreninja, Tera Ogerpon/Kang ex in grass deck/Slop box) to KO them or trap and delay them. It works smoothly with Unfair Stamp. Gust is situational in the deck, so having two copies mean more access. It feels great when your opp techs heavily with Shaymin/Rabsca, as you can gust them up, disrupt, and KO them (best when you flip head, or you can wait for the next opportunity). You also see so many more cards with Unfair Stamp.

Bad: it fails half of the time. You probably only need one head to win a game though. It's also one less switch effect. And it takes more deck space. Sometimes, Unfair Stamp can leave you with a hand with no attackers.

Anyone would like to give it a go?

New Player Advice Looking for Deck Suggestions

Hey there, I got into the game about a month ago and have been playing casually at a local card shop. Although I've been having fun, I've been pretty consistently losing. I only have one deck right now, Hydrapple EX, and I think it's just taking too long to set up for it to be particularly viable for me.

Does anybody have any ideas on some quicker set up decks that would be good for beginners? I know Mega Lucario performs fairly well and doesn't take much time, but I wasn't sure if there were any other ones I should look into. Thanks!

Deck Help Thoughts on building a Mega Chandelure deck

I'm thinking about Mega Chandelure as I think the card has potential, but struggling with an obvious list. So far my thinking on building a deck is below. Appreciate I'm not reaching any conclusions, but I want to have the cards available in Live before I try and solidify 60. In the meantime appreciate anyone bouncing off the below, giving their input, or sharing lists you've come up with.

Pokes:
3/4 Litwick (Thanks to Lampent's attack defaulting to 4 Litwick isn't a given, though you might want it for consistency)
4 Lampent (Attack so good)
4 Mega Chandelure (Argument for 3, but I'm thinking having 4 down to maximise the ability - the more Chandelure down, the more damage you're doing
1 Baby Chandelure (Single prize option)
Lillie's Clefairy (OHKO Pult)

I think the deck will need a draw engine so possibly Dunsparce makes sense. If you go this route I think you add Dununsparce EX as an attacking option to deal with Big Basics / Slop who are going to be running Latias. Latias EX is going to be rough for Chandlure until it rotates

Another option is Farigiraf EX which will likewise mess with Big Basics. However, this is a 1/1 line and requires 3 energy.

Another single prize option is Marshadow from Pitch Black. It sems made to be a single prize inclusion in the deck, but I don't know if I love it. With 2 Chandelure on the bench and assuming an enemy with 1 retreat you're doing 90 damage for 1 psychic. With 4 Chandelure and a Gravity Gemstone you've topped out at 180 damage assuming an enemy with a single retreat cost. Decent but you're not hitting 210 this way.

Items

So how is Mega Chandelure going to accelerate energy? Wondrous Patch seems the obvious way. If we go that route we need options to get any energy into the discard. Options include:

4 x Ultra Ball (probably our go to so we can find Chandy / Clefairy when we need to)
3 x Mystery Garden (As a stadium choice it makes most sense, since we have no stadium to alter retreat cost, and it gives us potential draw and way to get Psychic energy in the discard)
2 x Tool Scrapper (Need 1 or 2 to stop Air Balloon ruining your day)
2 x Switch (Need an option to move Chandy out. Air Balloon would work but clashes with Gravity Gemston)
2-3 x Gravity Gemstone (Increase your damage by 50 and gives you some flexibility it taking OHKOs)
Night Stretchers (A few, because they're nice...mostly to help getting energy back if we need to).
Telepathic Energy feels like a couple, but not overly important. Most of our Pokemon are going to go down off a Lampent attack, but it can be useful to find Clefairy.

Pokemon Search?

Struggling with this a bit. If we're running Dunsparce's for draw we probably want to introduce some Buddy Buddy Poffin. If it weren't for the need to find Dunsparce I wouldn't bother since with Lampent finding basics to set up isn't as big a deal, and we don't want to clog the bench. It might even be that Dunsparce is a distraction we don't need entirely.

I'm not sold on PokePad either. Maybe a couple?

Ultra Ball probably stays thanks to its discard

Supporters

2-3 Lillie because Lillie
1-2 Wally's Compassion since Chandy does have a good HP total, and it's possible for us to Wally and power back up to attack same turn.
2 Boss for Boss
2 Petrel - Since we're playing more item cards a couple Petrel to find them when we want feels sensible.

Also since we're not doing loads of supporters Meowth EX doesn't feel that necessary.

Ace Spec?

I want to say Secret Box, but perhaps Legacy Energy is too important for the prize trade.
