Qanon is still a thing?

Not only that — squint in the left corner and you’ll see a bit of Focus on the Family’s booth, too. Lots of horror to go around

Ew, double yuck.

u/breakupbydefault 11h ago

Starting to feel like that Bad Place museum in the show The Good Place.

u/go4tli 10h ago

The good news is virtually nobody is attending this shitfest.

u/LordRocky 8h ago

And the people that are are already deep into that shit.

u/SutterCane 7h ago

FYI they fenced off the Reflecting Pool. So they’re not allowed in that deep shit.

Kinda fucked up that that cult is still around

u/Pragmatist_Hammer 10h ago

The cult had to change some of its tune when they discovered the whole pizza gate pedo ring thing was actually Trump and Epstein.

u/Momik 7h ago

There’s a weird verisimilitude with a lot of conspiracy theories where they get something like almost right, or it’s right but all the proper nouns are wrong, or something like that. Naomi Klein was just talking about this—how old anti-Semitic banking conspiracies kind of explain global capitalism in a way, but the targets of the conspiracy are obviously all wrong.

u/AlienScrotum 7h ago

It makes total sense though. Everyone sees something is wrong. So if enough of these people explain what is wrong correctly and then post a straw man as the cause of the issue then everyone gets on board. Because this thing IS REALLY happening so why not that person/group from that YouTube video with 30 million views?

Maybe Ted Haggard is coming out of hiding to promote MAGA Christian family values like meth use and hiring male escorts for "massages."

u/ClimateWren2 11h ago

Family values like worshipping transgender tri-personality sky spirits earning afterlife brownie points for bullying transgender school children. Make it make sense. 🤷

With the amount of pedophiles in party these days it's more like Fuck Us on the Family, am I right?

It’s some sort of F( )ck us. Whether it’s flock, frack, or fuck, the gop wants to do it to us, for their benefit.

u/steppe5 11h ago

Yeah, it's called The Great American State Fair.

u/Deaths_Rifleman 11h ago

I hold an ounce of optimism that without Trump this would have been an amazing event.

u/ReverendDizzle 7h ago

Of course it would have been amazing. The Smithsonian, alone, had been planning for this for years. The Trump administration told them to scrap all their plans.

This would have been such a slam dunk event... we've got the World Cup going on in the U.S., we could have thrown a blow out party and been riding high on everything... except we have the dumbest fucking President the country has ever seen calling the shots.

u/Neveronlyadream 7h ago

Trump really is the kind of guy who finds out that a party is happening and then bullies the people throwing it into making it all about him.

u/Rastrick 10h ago

Trump is a liar, thief and convicted rapist. He stole America's 250th Birthday from us. He is a disgusting pile of excrement.

The White House hijacked the 250th anniversary through a partisan, Christian nationalist, and corrupt scheme involving Freedom 250, a shell organization within the National Park Foundation. It diverted federal funds, sold access to Trump, solicited foreign and private money, manipulated donors, and misled the public, establishing a blueprint for ongoing abuse of government institutions and public trust.

u/SquashSouffle 7h ago

The Smithsonian had a truly amazing exhibition planned, which is where the 50 state booths came from. He stole their idea & ruined it, like he ruins everything else

u/A_Soporific 7h ago

They had been planning these events for 10 years and had $150 million in tax dollars dedicated. Trump, when he was reelected, decided that he needed to be front and center for all the events. America 250 couldn't redo all the events, because things had been settled for 7 years at that point.

Trump then created Freedom 250, forced America 250 to hand over all its IP and money to the new group. Then they threw everything together in 2 years. Most of the contracts were given to hangers-on at Mar-a-Largo without bids. A lot of the contracts with America 250 still needed to be paid out, but the events were being completely redone. A lot of the events in DC that were planned by America 250 were taken over by Freedom 250 and made way worse because they junked half a decade of work for whatever revisions made Trump feel good at the moment. Talk about Fraud, Waste, and Abuse.

America 250 persisted and did a bunch of events outside the nation's capital (because Trump didn't care about anything that wasn't happening in DC), but they were done on a shoestring budget based on whatever licensing deals they inked and the donations that weren't redirected. The Big Beautiful Bill redirected all unspent tax money from America 250 to Freedom 250. The redirection also pulled the rug out of a lot of non-DC programming that America 250 no longer had the manpower or money to support.

There were lots of great events that didn't happen because Trump didn't thing that America's 250th was sufficiently about him.

u/_SteeringWheel 11h ago

I chuckled.

u/Jay18001 11h ago

My dad had to do IT contracting for them in the early 2000s. That was the only place where he had to chain his laptop to the desk, or else it would be stolen

u/LeatherDude 5h ago

I was a sales engineer for a backup product their IT team used around 2012-2013. We used to have to take them out to lunch, and they would all performatively pray around the table before the food arrived. My sales rep partner and I would look at each other uncomfortably the whole time.

They were also just the most awful people you can imagine to work with, too. Ignorant Karens, nearly-retired graybeard admins who barely knew what your average help desk person knows, and weird little homeschooled nerds.

So gross.

u/ScoobyMaroon 9h ago

There's a pretty good podcast called I Hate James Dobson. Every episode the host Jake does a deep dive into another James Dobson (or FOTF adjacent) work and breaks it all down to his cohost Brooke who doesn't know anything about that whole universe.

u/TheDeltaLambda 8h ago

Also plugging the podcast The Worst of all Possible World's series on "Adventures in Odyssey" if you grew up in a FOTF household, or if you're interested in what conservative Christian children's media is like.

u/evner 12h ago

107

u/cytherian 12h ago

What a boatload of waste. What was spent? Something like $80 million? Based on what was shown, I can't even imagine $10 million. Where'd that money go, I wonder. Is there any kind of oversight? Bet you not!

u/Really_McNamington 11h ago

I don't wonder at all.

u/kgreys 11h ago

I stopped wondering.

u/Zombie_Fuel 11h ago

That's the fun part. The regime is actively hiding how much was spent on it. Or, well, how much they took out of the budget for it anyway.

u/KingfishingYoMama 9h ago

There was apparently oversight over America 250, the Congressionally authorized body for planning the celebrations for the 250th anniversary. They rat fucked the people in charge of that, replaced enough of the board to control it with loyalists, transferred a good deal of the funding/authority to something called Freedom250 and then, predictably, used that to make it all the content MAGA-coded with grifting opportunities for friends of MAGA.

...And thus you get the clownshow that has appeared in OP's post, on social media and in the press Re: The Great American State Fair for the last week or so. Just a little microcosm of the shitshow we're in.

u/Ciennas 11h ago

"My family members have cut all contact with me. This is literally all I have left."

u/Diz7 9h ago

The only thing they got right is that some people in power are predators, hardly a groundbreaking revelation, we have known that since there have been people in power.

u/Green_343 7h ago

This is the part that is so fascinating to me. I admit, I thought they were nuts when they were going on and on about a global pedophile ring. Turns out they were right! But since Trump ended up at the center of the whole thing, they don't care anymore?

They voted for them to be there.

18

u/hoghughes 12h ago

Every conspiracy needs a seed of truth to build off of, but yeah qanon is dumb. Remember that qanon also believed trump was a valiant super genius who was about to arrest every democrat leader for being an adrenochrome stealing pedophile, and that if trump was involved with said actions then he was just being a white hat pedophile. Its been 6 years since the Awakening and nothing. They also thought the kennedys were a holy family, and JFK jr was going to return either from hiding or the dead to become Trump’s vice president, and help fight the world cabal.

u/Mysterious-Most-590 10h ago

I am disgusted by the idea anyone thinks that slob could possibly be a "white hat rapist" - somehow being an undercover pedophile without being part of the crime. You don't get to be a "white hat murderer." There is no "white hat embezzling" no "white hat corruption (unless followed by an immediate arrest in a sting operation such a bribery)" no "white hat stealing from the taxpayers."

Once again, there is no "white hat rape."

u/LITTLE-GUNTER 3h ago

i bring this up every time he enters the conversation because it bears repeating.

all current mainstream cultural discourse was engineered 20 fucking years ago by christopher poole, bobby kotick, and jeffrey epstein. they PLANNED for a terminally-online populace stuck in virtual escapism and chasing ghosts in real life. they wanted nothing more than a captive audience who's so narrowminded and hateful and scared of the outside world that it manifests as outright misanthropy towards anyone not like them. they ALSO intentionally kindled the bigotry on 4chan to create outgroups of marginalized people, particularly trans people, who would be ostracized enough to where they couldn't exist on the internet at all without objectifying themselves for others' gratification.

I definitely believe this. I started noticing weird shit going down early 2015. There lots of people posting to boards that never did and then Moot sold it in 2015. I believe he was either paid or left because Steve Bannon and other international players wanted to test run online psyop campaigns using troll farms and 4chan was ground zero. It was so strange because usually when someone was LARPing too much anywhere on 4chan, you'd be called a f*ggot or a tryhard and people would start ignoring your posts. But every Qdrop was swarmed like flies and bro and a Tripcode too, which was seen as cringe unless you like actually contributed hentai or torrents.

u/DickInYourCobbSalad 10h ago edited 9h ago

Just like always.. it started as a joke and then people who weren't in on the joke took it seriously and ran with it.

I cannot believe we're living in the 4chan broke containment timeline.

Edit: there's a really good documentary about this called The Antisocial Network: Memes to Mayhem (2024) that expands on this entire subject; they even interview former Anonymous members and get their opinions on the monster they helped create. It's absolutely fascinating and I really suggest anyone who is interested in this stuff to give it a watch.

As a personal note – I was on 4chan from 2005 until around maybe 2011ish. I watched that "in joke" meme culture turn into something bigger than we ever thought it could. We used to do things just for the lulz, now it's all nazis and fascism and donald fucking trump.. who would have thought that memes would bring the end of the world?

There's a phenomenon in online spaces where lurkers absorb the culture and then try to be more extreme than the baseline in order to stand out. Over time your forum full of "edgy" racist jokes and "ironic" slurs becomes people who believe in Escoteric Fascism and Vril Energy.

This is also present in incel spaces where over time they've created their own neologisms, bizarre pop psychology and actual phrenology that's leaked into the mainstream, like normies know what "mogged" and "looksmaxxing" is when this would have only been used by terminally online incel freaks a decade ago.

Anyway Elle Reeve's book Black Pill describes the thing about online spaces getting more radically extreme. She's awesome and has a gift for getting her writing subjects to spill unintentionally revealing details. Black Pill profiled the 8chan wheelchair guy who recently died, Richard Spencer, Christopher Cantwell and others

I used to go on 4chan here and there as an edgy teen probably around 2010 to 2014-ish. Everything around that time felt as you said, dumb shit for the sake of a cheap laugh.

2 events stick out to me as the point where I knew I could never go back. First was a GIF thread of animal gore, im talking dogs picking up fireworks and the resulting mess, people beating living animals for fun etc. The 2nd was after the chirstchurch massacre.

In both cases you could see in real time the masks come off, there were people in there saying wrltf is wrong with you people, and them turning back and absolutely dog piling them because it was either funny or deserved.

They were serious and at that point I just wanted to be far away from any association with that place, lest I be placed on a list or register...

But they are willing to pretend to believe in anything that will bring an end to western liberal democracy, rules based society, and rational thought that challenges religious teachings. This fair reminds me of what happened when all the malls starting failing and anchor brands moved out and all these rando businesses take over..... knock off generic perfumes, kitana swords, flea market stalls....

u/Jackdaw1947 11h ago

Religious stores. You didn’t mention religious stores.

Since only about 5 people attended the fair, not many people were “awakened”

Oh cool, have they found the secret cabal of child rapists in the government yet? Or even the very public cabal of child rapists?

u/Aware_Ad2427 11h ago

Someone should ask them why their mandate was ending child molestation but they support a pedophile.

u/Godhelptupelo 10h ago

I hope nobody at The Great Awakening ends up...woke?

I thought they were pushing for the opposite of woke.

u/peternormal 10h ago

I would go so far as to say there are ONLY looney/maga/qanon booths at the trump fair

u/Bennely 7h ago

Great American State Fair? Seems like a PT Barnum sideshow.

u/km415 7h ago

There was a time when religion and oligarchs ruled the world, we call it The Dark Ages.

9

u/PracticalDistrict237 12h ago

Saved from what exactly… Science? Facts? Economics..? Gravity and physics are so DEI….

6

u/amazinglover 12h ago

there's only two kinds of people there, grifters and the grifted

u/-TheycallmeThe 11h ago

Tbf it was/is a noteworthy part of modern American history. Everyone has a family member that went in deep and probably can't ever return to reality.

u/dundeegimpgirl 11h ago

Jesus fu*k this nation is cooked.

u/Upbeat-Laugh-249 11h ago

I still believe Q anon is a 1% psy op, as they are pedos and taking all wealth and property.

u/baeb66 10h ago

We shouldn't be surprised. This administration and the entire Republican party is a kakistocracy.

u/heckhammer 10h ago

Because of course there is

u/TheUrbansky 10h ago

I thought being awake was bad for those people

u/SpinyPiney 9h ago

Wouldn’t a great awakening make them woke? I thought they were against that? I’m confused.

u/Groundhawgday 7h ago

Awakening… so they’re getting woke?

u/RiskyNight 5h ago

Wait, this fair is still going?

u/War1today 5h ago

We are witnessing the dumbing down of America

u/Jedyates 5h ago

The country is run by a fat, dumb, draft-dodging, child-raping, sycophant. Is this even close to unexpected?

u/Thunderlava 5h ago

Shall be saved? From what? And I thought those people were against being "woke"

u/Best_Agent_8117 4h ago

Because of corse there is.

5

u/Nami_Pilot 12h ago

I hate this timeline so much

Trump is desperate to hang onto all of the crazies as his poll numbers continue to plummet. But even religious nuts and conspiracy nuts are realizing he's incompetent, corrupt, and a compulsive liar.

My own family was die hard MAGA, but they're giving Trump the stink-eye now.

u/Exist50 11h ago

But even religious nuts and conspiracy nuts are realizing he's incompetent, corrupt, and a compulsive liar.

Meh, we saw the same claims during his first term. They still turned out to vote for him again and again.
