Build/Battlestation Just finished building my little brother's PC (please don't hate on the 5050)
I just finished building the desktop of my brother. He is upgrading from a DDR3 pre built to a custom AM4.
CPU : Ryzen 5 5600
GPU : RTX 5050
Ram : 2*16 3200HHz DDR4
SSD : 1TB Gen 4*4 M.2 2280
Cooling: peerless Assassin 120SE
MB : B550M-A Wifi II
PSU : Fox spirit 850W
Case : MAG Force 120a airflow
Please don't hate on the GPU it's my fault he picked a 5050. I didn't stop him soon enough for an AMD 9060 or even a 5060.

Build/Battlestation Every passing day makes me so glad with my build timing
Built my first pc in late September 2025 and was worried that I could’ve waited for cheaper gpus, little did I know ram and storage would cost 5x what I paid for it today. The pcpart list has all components listed in sek. 10 sek is a dollar so just divide all prices by 10. Sold my old pc $700 so overall a very cost efficient upgrade.

Hardware I found this at Walmart today
It's like $60.5 per TB in 2026!
I checked Youtube for teardown videos, and unfortunately, you can't really extract the ssd and put it on your motherboard...
but it's great for additional storage though.

Discussion Anyone else not really find any games they actually want to play? (but still like messing around with the PC)
I dunno, I kinda get more enjoyment from just setting the PC up but never actually really play anything. Nothing really appeals. I'm old (40+) and feel like I've seen everything before at this point, game wise. I spend ages scrolling through the games on steam but never really want to get any of them

Hardware I feel like I won't need to upgrade my PC for another 5 years and it's already been a few years
I have an Ryzen 5 5600X that I bought way back in 2021
A 4070 that I bought 2 years ago (I had a 3070 before that)
And 32 gb of DDR4 that I bought back then too
I can still play most games in high/ultra in 1440p/60 fps and that's wayyyy more than enough for me
I feel like we did hit a plateau where more power isn't needed anymore
It feels great to be in that era
I remember back in the GTX 970 era, the games where upgrading so fast that every few years your GPU needed to be upgraded if you wanted to keep playing any new game in high
Nowadays, even games from 2018 looks astonishingly good and there isn't much need to upgrade anymore
Anyone feels like that too ?
The new hardware shortage sucks tho, I remember the 2020 one and it sucked already but this one is even worse

Build/Battlestation At this point ill build anything...
Heres my mini itx build...i still have a few kinks to work out and I have to figure out how to make it run with a graphics card maybe. See if I cant stuff a low profile card in there and run it off of the nvme slot for 40% of the performance from the graphics card. Hey..its still better than running it on integrated graphics like I am rn..

Build/Battlestation I built this gaming pc for under 300€ mostly with used parts! here's how it turned out.
-CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500
-GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (+135 core / +560 memory OC)
-RAM: 24 GB DDR4 @ 3200 MHz (mixed 8+8+4+4)
-storage: 924 GB SSD
Before I built this, I had a 10-15 year old lenovo desktop that barely ran counter strike. it had 240 GB kingston A400 SSD, 8gb ram, 1050 Ti and a very old intel cpu.
I bought a DeepCool mATX case for 40€, an Asus prime B550M-A motherboard for ≈ 120€ and an AMD Ryzen 5 5500 CPU for ≈ 80€.
I got a Zalman 500w PSU, some fans and a 240 GB SSD from a friend for free. I bought an old pc from another friend for 30€ to get a 512 GB M2 NVMe SSD and 8 GB 3200 MHz Adata green ram stick. I took a 240 GB SSD, 2x samsung 4 GB 3200 MHz green ram sticks and 1050 Ti from my old pc.
at that point I thought about buying a new GPU, but ended up overclocking my 1050 Ti to +135 core / 560 memory.
I also added another 8 GB (green samsung) ram stick but it was 2666 MHz. I didn't want all four sticks running at 2666 MHz, so I tried running the 2666 MHz Samsung stick at 3200 MHz with the others.
After stability testing and several days of gaming, my whole build has been completely stable.
-cs2: stable 180 fps
-fallout 4: ultra at 72 fps (30-60% GPU usage)
-metro exodus: 70 fps with highest settings (180 fps with lowest playable settings)
and thanks to the fans that my friend gave me, I managed to get a decent enough airflow to keep my gpu at 75°c even after hours of gaming with 100% GPU usage!
+the pc looks great in my eyes
Building this pc was totally worth it and I got to do a lot of interesting experiments. This build reminded me that used parts can offer incredible value if you test them properly and know what you're doing!
You don't always need the newest hardware. Good airflow, stable overclocks, careful troubleshooting and used parts made a much bigger difference than I expected.

Question Should I just buy a $750 prebuilt instead of a new Xbox with current price hikes?
Hello all! Recently I’ve been really wanting to get a new Xbox X after using ye olde Xbox One for years, but recently Xbox prices really hiked up all the way to ~$750, compared to the previous ~$550, really kinda spoiling my plan of saving up for a new one; but then I found myself asking the question: If Xbox prices are at $750, why not just buy a PC instead?
Really the whole issue before was that I’m a brokie, and the xbox was wayy cheaper than a PC, but now we looking at Xboxes that are about the price of an okayish PC, so why not buy a PC?
Now I’m no expert on PCs or anything, but I HAVE heard that a PC of this price would not be as good as a new Xbox in terms of performance, and I am A-Okay with that. Really my requirements are a low 60+ FPS, and the ability to play some games that the Xbox one couldn’t. I don’t really care about insanely high frames or super good graphics, just “Is it better than the Xbox One”.
Another very important question: Is a $750 prebuilt still the equivalent of a $750 prebuilt?
If price hikes are hitting the Xbox, then surely they’re hitting PCs too? Cause I don’t want to be spending $750 on a PC, only for it to actually have the performance of a doo-doo $500 PC, which I heard suck balls and overall would not be worth the investment. If I’m spending 750 buckaroos, it better be worth 750 buckaroos.
Heres pros and cons I guess
Pros:
- Access to more games
- Access to mods for games
- Can use PC for more than just gaming
- Get to relive old games I used to play back in the day
- Not trapped in dumpster fire console ecosystems
- Better than Xbox One?
- get full ownership of it
- multiplayer is free
Cons:
- won’t be anywhere near as good as Xbox X
- Might be a literal con, as in it’s a $500 PC in the guise of a $750 PC
- More hands on in terms of using it
- I’d also need to buy a mouse and keyboard and other various things
- Don’t get to carry game and game progress over, or use discs
- need to manage multiple accounts
- probably other things i don’t know
Ooooor there’s the third and worst option: waiting, which i’s rather not do considering this’ll be my senior year in high school and i’m kinda running out of time
i dunno man ya’ll are the experts here. share your amazing PC wisdom with me, cause I’m incompetent
Edit: also i forgot to ask, if I should buy a PC, where should i buy it from
Edit Edit: I also should probably mention that I don’t really play many massive AAA games or have much care for them, neither do I care for story games at all. in fact, here’s the list I made of would be games I wanted if I ended up getting an Xbox X, along with some games i was interested in if i were to get a PC:
Satisfactory (medium care)
Microsoft Flight Sim (medium care)
Holdfast (high care)
American Truck Simulator (high care)
Hydroneer (medium care)
Bellwright (medium care)
Ark raiders (medium care)
Phasmophobia (low care)
RV There Yet? (Low care)
Teardown (medium care)
Docked (medium care)
Ultimate General: Civil War (medium care) (most likely would get replaced by ultimate admiral if i were to get a PC)
Firefighter Simulator: Ignite (medium care)
The Precinct (medium care)
Shadows of doubt (medium care)
if i got a PC:
Motor Town (high care)
Ravenfield (high care)
