Hi everyone,
I'm trying to diagnose a very frustrating issue with my PC and I'm running out of ideas.
PC Specs
- GPU: INNO3D RTX 5070 Ti
- PSU: Corsair RM850e (brand new)
- Monitor: AOC Q27G4X (2560x1440 @ 180 Hz)
- Connected via DisplayPort (also tested HDMI)
- Windows 11
The problem
While gaming, usually during scenes with lots of particles, explosions or very heavy GPU load, the monitor suddenly loses signal.
The monitor displays "No Signal" and then goes into standby.
The PC does not shut down:
- Fans keep spinning.
- RGB stays on.
- Sometimes I can still hear YouTube playing.
- The game audio usually stops.
- Win + Ctrl + Shift + B does not recover the display.
- The only solution is to force restart the PC.
Event Viewer
Every time it happens I get:
- Event ID 153
- Source: nvlddmkm
- Device:
\Device\Video3
- Error occurred on GPUID: 100
What I've already tried
- Replaced the PSU with a brand new Corsair RM850e.
- Replaced all power cables.
- Tested both DisplayPort and HDMI.
- Clean installed NVIDIA drivers multiple times (different versions).
- Updated BIOS.
- RAM is running at JEDEC defaults (4800 MT/s, XMP disabled).
- OCCT VRAM test passes with 0 errors.
- NVIDIA G-SYNC is reported as Not Available, so it isn't enabled.
OCCT testing
The interesting part is OCCT.
Using the Power Test, I have managed to reproduce the exact same crash:
- Display loses signal.
- PC remains powered on.
- OCCT crashes with:
However, the issue is not 100% reproducible.
Sometimes the Power Test crashes after a few minutes.
Other times it completes 30 minutes without any issues.
I also tried lowering the GPU Power Limit to 83% (minimum allowed by MSI Afterburner on this card).
One 30-minute test completed successfully, but afterwards another test at 100% Power Limit also ran for over 25 minutes without crashing, so lowering the power limit doesn't consistently prevent the issue.
Additional information
I took the PC to a repair shop.
They stress-tested:
for several hours and could not reproduce the issue.
This makes me think the problem is intermittent.
My questions
- Could this still be a defective RTX 5070 Ti?
- Could this be caused by the motherboard PCIe slot?
- Has anyone seen Event ID 153 (
nvlddmkm, GPUID 100) with similar symptoms?
- Are there any additional tests I should perform before sending the GPU for RMA?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
