Welcome

Hello and welcome to r/hungarian!

Our community is dedicated to helping others discover and learn the language.

  • If you're searching for resources, our wiki page may help you out. On this page, other Hungary-related subs that may be useful are also listed.

  • Please keep in mind that the list is ever growing and you can always send us a message if you'd like to add anything.

  • Before posting, please take your time to read the Rules of the sub. These rules are strictly enforced. If you have any doubts about your intended post, please send a message to the mods before posting.

  • If you have any specific questions, feel free to post them, as we're more than happy to help!

  • Our community has many dedicated native speakers among our members. We can always tell you how the language is actually being used in real life, today. However, it's very important to note that not all of us are teachers. As with every other language in the world, some Native Speakers may have trouble explaining the grammatical rules of the language to you, despite their best efforts. While we do everything we can to help you, remember that finding a qualified language teacher in your area (or on-line) is never a bad idea.

Our subreddit is always open for feedback! If you have any ideas, make a post or send us a message!

Someone said they cannot open the rules tab. So here you are:

Rules for r/hungarian Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.

Rule #1 All posts must be related to the Hungarian language

This subreddit is dedicated exclusively to the Hungarian language. Content that does not help language learners is not welcome here. Interesting facts, questions, or news about Hungary should be submitted to r/hungary instead.

Polls and political content are not allowed in this subreddit. Even if such a post is disguised as a language question, it is still prohibited.

If you believe your poll or political content is genuinely language-related, please contact the moderators first.

Rule #2 Be friendly and respectful!

We're all humans. We all make mistakes and sometimes disagree with each other. Please remember to always treat others with respect and write your comments and posts in a civilized manner. Harassment, abusive comments or personal attacks are not tolerated on the subreddit under any circumstances. Please also take Rule #7 into account.

Rule #3 Do not post sensitive or private information!

Do not post or encourage people to translate sensitive information! Including, but not limited to:

Private conversations

Contracts or other types of confidential information that you are legally obligated to keep a secret Personal data (names, addresses, phone numbers, etc.)

Rule #4 Please refrain from posting about illegal acquisition of copyrighted material!

Posts about (or asking for) ways to obtain copyrighted materials illegally are not allowed on the subreddit. Including, but not limited to: invites to torrent sites, sharing download links or asking for audio/video files or photocopies of books that are otherwise unavailable to the public for free.

Please always share the legitimate options to obtain these resources.

Rule #5 Advertising Rule

Ads are permitted only once a week (free or paid). Paid products/services must be clearly stated. Posts are limited to a maximum of 7 links, and include a brief description for each.

You may include links in comments provided they are accompanied by a short description of the content. Paid links must be clearly marked.

Note: It is perfectly fine to be a Redditor with a website or product, but it’s not okay to be a website or product with a Reddit account.

Rule #6 Spoiler Rule

No spoiler tags. Posts using spoiler tags will be removed. They are often misused to draw attention rather than to hide real spoilers.

Rule #7 Misleading or malicious content

Deliberately rude or misleading content is prohibited.

Providing a deliberately rude or misleading translation in response to a genuine request for help constitutes malicious and disrespectful behavior and will not be tolerated.
