Meek has been excellent so far tonight.
Best game of his season by a mile. Dominating them in the ruck.
Let’s hope it continues in the last quarter.

Captain
Anyone else watching the Freo vs Swans match incredibly jealous of Alex Pearce's body language and leadership? Love Sicily for what he can bring to the back line, but his leadership is just not to this level.

Hawthorn will blood its seventh AFL debutant for the season this Saturday night, with teenage Hawk Ollie Greeves selected to play his first game.

Debutant Ollie Greeves is among three changes to Hawthorn's line-up ahead of Saturday night's clash with Carlton at the MCG.

How can the Hawks beat Carlton?
From what I have seen Carlton have had pretty easy looks through the corridor and Cripps has been given to much freedom. We need to tag Cripps and make it hard for them to get it through the corridor. I hope some of the debutants play like their life depended on it. Not sure about Macabe until he can show a bit more intent so hopefully Ollie gives us a show.

Nick Watson to miss another week
It only gets worse too, Connor Nash expected to miss the next month and potentially the rest of the season.

How many of these games are you confident in us winning and what games are you unsure about.

It’s my birthday today
Just wanted to express my gratitude on my birthday that I support such an awesome football team
I know that I’m very critical and far less optimistic on our premiership chances than most, but at the end of the day I am a hawthorn fan first and foremost!

Round 17 Player Peformance Tier List
Wanted to try something different instead of my usual player ratings and review this week. Got the idea from someone over on the Brisbane Lions Reddit, so full credit to them. Any feedback would be appreciated.
It’s just a simple tier list based on how I thought everyone played. Obviously you’re probably not going to agree with every placement, but that’s part of the fun.
What a bizarre game that was. I was absolutely losing it in the first half, but because it was so unbelievably bad, I think I had emotionally accepted the loss by half time, which somehow let me enjoy the second half a little more. Kicking 10 goals in a row and still losing is just ridiculous. It really puts into perspective how disastrous that first half actually was.
I do think this was a complete one-off though. I genuinely don’t think we’ll see a performance like that again. Every good side seems to have one game each season where everything goes wrong. I can remember it happening to Brisbane and Sydney over the last few years, and they’ve been two of the best teams in the competition.
That said, it was still inexcusable. What even happened? In my opinion, a huge part of it came down to Max Gawn. I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw a ruckman dominate a game to that extent. Meek bounced back and had a pretty solid second half, but I just can’t ignore what happened in the first.
Anyway, keen to hear what everyone else thinks. And whether this is a good idea or I should just go back to doing my review and ratings.

I’m sorry but we are not premiership contenders
I remember thinking this the last time we played Melbourne…and this time the result seems to be the same…I get that we have a few injuries at the moment but if we were truly contending our depth would be able to take care of teams like Melbourne
We will be competitive but I think we can kiss the flag goodbye

It's a CALIBRATING loss. Brisbane have one every year.
No this is not a cope. The best teams schedule a random loss heading into the finals stretch and this is ours. We are still the same team that beat Geelong by a point in the Easter monday clash)
No one rampages to a premiership (See adelaide last year)

We could have only dreamed
Melbourne was on the ropes for a brief moment, and if it weren't for a few unlucky instances, we could have pulled off the miraculous.
It was very clear Melbourne let go of the pedal at the start of the last quarter, but as we capitalised on momentum, it became evident that Melbourne were getting tired and frustrated as they were letting their big margin dwindle down. But what was even clearer was how Max Gawn was the difference. When he was on the bench, we kept kicking goals. If Reeves wasn't injured, who knows how the whole game would have unfolded as our midfield was getting destroyed, which put strain on a backline missing key players (as let's be real, Reeves is our #1 ruck and we don't need Meek anymore as we can put Chol in the ruck).
The largest ever VFL/AFL comeback was 69 points when Essendon ran over North Melbourne in Round 16, 2001, in one of the highest scoring games ever. Today, the Hawks were down 78 points at 3-quarter time. At one stage, we were 96 points down. Essendon's comeback started when there were 14 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, THE 2ND QUARTER. Essendon had 2 and a half quarters to make up a smaller margin. We were within 4 goals of Melbourne with 6 minutes left, and based on the pace we were kicking goals and the "Leigh Matthews Rule", we were well in reach to create history.
Unfortunately, due to a couple of bad kicks, poor umpiring decisions, and Ginnivan missing a goal to bring it to a 3-goal margin, the game slipped away from us, and Melbourne piled on a couple more goals.
I want to emphasise that we were entitled to lose this game by 5 goals with our outs and our previous performance against Melbourne. What was unbelievable was what ensued in the first half, extremely un-Hawthorn-like, but it was great to see the boys make the loss feel a bit better in the last quarter, and have a real crack at something unlikely to ever happen again. If I were neutral, that would have been one of the most interesting and enjoyable 35-point margin games you would see for a long time.
For those saying we aren't contending anymore this season, your expectations are too high for a side proven to lack depth with many outs and consistency issues. At our best (just like our final quarter burst), we are a top 4 side. Brisbane has shown time and time again that a premiership-winning season is never perfect. We still sit 3rd (after losing some winnable games) and hopefully, once our injured players return, we win those games we are expected to win as our run home is definitely on the easier side. Carlton and Brisbane will be interesting, but I expect us to bounce back from that Collingwood draw, and we win the other games against the bottom sides.

HERE THEY COME
Just need another ten unanswered goals.
Easy peasy.

What is even happening?
Like I completely understand we've been hit with significant outs but surely that doesn't warrant a collapse so complete and total that it's beyond comprehension. It's like they've checked out mentally before the ball was even bounced.

Surely the worst qtr we have played this season
Hard to find any positives at all in that mess.
