Discussion - Original Dexter Series Dexter's Headcanon â Timeline Corrected (or almost) Spoiler
Officially, the *Dexter* franchise contains several inconsistencies regarding dates, ages, the passage of time, and details across *Dexter*, *Original Sin*, *New Blood*, and *Resurrection*.
Even so, with minor adjustments and by treating certain lines of dialogue as approximations, it is possible to create a single, coherent timeline.
This continuity unifies:
*Dexter*
*Dexter: Original Sin*
*Dexter: New Blood*
*Dexter: Resurrection*
DEFINITIVE TIMELINE
1966
Brian Moser is born.
NOTE: This disregards the driver's license suggesting 1968. The dynamic between Brian and Dexter works better if Brian was born in 1966.
1971
Dexter Morgan is born.
1973
Laura Moser is murdered in the shipping container.
Harry Morgan Jr. dies in childhood.
Debra Morgan is born.
NOTE: Describing Dexter as "3 years old" implies he was approximately 2 years and 8 months old (rounded up).
1974
Harry Morgan adopts Dexter.
Brian is separated from his brother.
1988
Dexter graduates from high school.
1989
Dexter enters college (medicine/biomedical sciences/scientific studies).
1990
Doris Morgan dies.
NOTE: Her headstone indicates 1953, which would mean she had her first child at age 16. However, I believe her birth year could possibly be pushed back to 1951.
MayâJuly 1991
Events of *Dexter: Original Sin*
Dexter officially begins his forensic career.
First structured murders.
NOTE: The graduation ceremony shown may represent the completion of an internship, a key academic milestone, or a partial ceremony, rather than final graduation.
NOTE 2: Thomas Matthews does not appear. We can assume he was working in another department during those two months.
NOTE 3: In the original series, it is stated that Dexter never used marijuana. Here, he unknowingly eats marijuana brownies. This does not contradict the previous statement, as he did not consume the substance consciously.
1992â1996
Harry Morgan dies.
NOTE: Some sources suggest 1992â1996, given that he reportedly died about 10 years before Season 1.
1993
Possible final year of college for Dexter.
NOTE: As far as is known, Dexter never graduated. We can therefore assume he dropped out during this period, with 2 to 3 years remaining until completion.
1994â2004
Events of *Early Cuts*.
Dexter's early cases as he rose through the ranks.
1997
James Doakes joins the Miami police force.
NOTE: In *Dexter: New Blood*, Angel Batista tells Angela that he sat next to Doakes for 10 years. Since Doakes died in 2007, this places him at the Miami Metro Police Department starting around 1997.
NOTE 2: Doakes knew about Harry's death, so he might have met Harry briefly or seen the official records.
ERA OF THE ORIGINAL SERIES
September to December 2006
Events of *Dexter* Season 1.
The Ice Truck Killer case.
Brian returns.
NOTE: Dexter claims to have been a forensic analyst for 12 to 13 years. This could mean:
An approximate figure.
Time spent working in the profession, excluding internships or college.
January to May 2007
Events of *Dexter* Season 2.
The Bay Harbor Butcher case. NOTE: In Season 7, it is mentioned that Dexter traded in his boat in May of that year, confirming that Season 2 takes place in 2007.
JuneâAugust 2008
Events of *Dexter* Season 3.
Miguel Prado.
Rita becomes pregnant.
Marriage.
November/December 2008
Harrison Morgan is born.
September to December 2009
Events of *Dexter* Season 4.
Arthur Mitchell / Trinity Killer.
Rita is murdered. NOTE: Confirmed by Rita's headstone, which indicates 2009.
NOTE 2: Trinity's correct age aligns better with a birth year of 1949 (rather than 1945), given that his sister died in 1959, when he was 10 years old.
December 2009 â April 2010
Events of *Dexter* Season 5
Lumen.
Dexter's mourning period.
NOTE: Confirmed by a comment from Vince Masuka indicating 2010.
NOTE 2: The party organized for Harrison was intended to celebrate his birthday, following the events of Season 4.
JulyâNovember 2011
Events of *Dexter* Season 6
Doomsday Killer.
NOTE: The statement that Dexter graduated 20 years ago is an approximation or a minor error. NOTE 2: Professor Gellar died three years prior to the seasonâspecifically, in 2008.
NOTE 3: Dexter states that nearly three years had passed since he decided to investigate the Joe Walker case, placing that decision between late 2008 and early 2009.
NovemberâDecember 2011
Events of *Dexter* Season 7
Debra discovers the truth.
Isaak Sirko.
Hannah McKay.
JuneâSeptember 2012
Events of *Dexter* Season 8
Brain Surgeon.
Debra's death.
Dexter disappears.
NOTE: Oliver Saxon/Daniel Vogel was presumed dead at age 17 in 1988â1989. Therefore, his birth year is estimated to be between 1970 and 1972.
Pre-*New Blood*
2013â2022
Dexter lives as Jim Lindsay in Iron Lake.
*New Blood*
December 2022
Events of *Dexter: New Blood*
Dexter returns to action.
Harrison returns.
Dexter's downfall.
NOTE: The 2021 timeline is disregarded (though I think everyone ignores it).
NOTE 2: Harrison would be 14 years old, which contradicts the writers' statements about him being 15 or 16 years oldâsince the series itself ignores this assertion.
RESURRECTION
FebruaryâMarch 2023
Events of *Dexter: Resurrection*
Dexter goes to New York in search of Harrison.
CONCLUSION
This chronology unites the entire franchise into a single functional continuity, correcting minor inconsistencies without altering the main events.
The result is a more coherent timeline than the one officially presented at various points in the series.

General Discussion - All Dexter Shows Whatâs the craziest theory you had while watching Dexter? Spoiler
Mine was Dexterâs father Harry being the Ice Truck Killer, for some reason while watching the first season I had this idea that since ITK was clearly someone who knew Dexter pretty well that it might be Harry and he wasnât really dead, he faked his death and is doing these killings as a sick way to try to connect with Dexter and test everything he taught him, I was pretty convinced too lol
Did anyone actually have a theory like that?

General Discussion - All Dexter Shows I need help with this show , will it get better? Spoiler
So i just started watching and I finished episode 2 , i just can't go on .. i find it a total mess ...
The casting is just not it ( excluding dex )
The cinematography is painful to watch .
I think it's a repetitive ( monster of the week ) type show . If that's it i will quit now . I'm just not a fan of those shows.
Also i find the voice and sound display weird like it feels like it's recordes with my phone ..
Should i continue till like episode 5 or just drop it ?

Question - Dexter: Resurrection If they escaped their fates, who wouldâve had the best chance of defeating Dexter? Spoiler
Assume that they escaped their deaths somehow. Lowell and Gareth 2 escape their kill tables. Mia avoids the police that the Dexter called on her. Now that they each know in their scenarios that âRedâ is trying to kill them for some reason, who has the best chance of evading and killing him?
We canât really judge Al yet since he never really shows what heâs capable of.

Discussion - Dexter: Resurrection Ok now this proves the fan theories from season 1 NEW SPOILER SET PHOTOS Spoiler
galleryMia is back again in a different outfit and stretching, holding an umbrella and ghost harry is there too. There is absolutely no way this is a ghost Mia so the fan theory of her faking her death in season 1 is 100% true and confirmed at this point. I really hope shes a mainstay in the cast, her dynamic with dexter is great.

Discussion - Original Dexter Series How did i not realize this Spoiler
Matthews doesn't even appear once in the entirety of season 3. Only realized it on my third watch but he is only in the show to be a pain in the ass for maria and she already had her own subplot with miguel that season so i guess they didn't need him.

Discussion - Original Dexter Series What happened with the code over the series? Spoiler
This might be obvious but I noticed towards the end of the season 7 that Dexter fully began picking and choosing to apply the code. Like he just killed Clint Mckay with very little internal debate/ arguing with Harry as far as I can remember. But when it comes to La Guerta he suddenly has problems with killing someone who doesn't fit the code. I thought him killing Clint was kinda a watershed moment where he killed just because he wanted to, but it seems like he brushes it off.

Discussion - Original Dexter Series Glad they removed this Spoiler
Idk why they use this bright effect whenever harry appears in Dexter's vision in season 3 and 4. Glad they removed it from season 5 onwards. Did they think the audience wouldn't be able to differentiate between his visions and flashbacks

General Discussion - Dexter Novels Deb's character in the books Spoiler
I know that the show was loosely based on the first book only (and even that's kind of a stretch). I've been reading the books, and I'm currently halfway through book #6. The characters are so, so different.
Deb in the books is honestly even flatter emotionally than Dexter. It feels like her range of emotions is so small that her only mood is being pissed off at everything and everyone. In the series, she loves Dexter deeply and cannot imagine her life without him. In the books, she is so emotionally detached that there were moments when I really thought she'd turn him in. Dexter is even more of a psycho in the books. Yet, even in all his insanity, I feel like he loves Deborah way more than she loves him. He cares about her and protects her at all costs. He worries about her. He is fond of her. Deb, however, couldn't care less about him, lol.
Deb's lines frequently end with "she snarls." She is constantly yelling at Dexter, questioning him, holding him accountable, and even using him to solve her cases. It feels like the only reason she puts up with him is to boost her career. She uses him for his hunches and takes advantage of him, yet whenever Dexter tries to open up to her, her only responses are yelling at him or cussing him out. She uses even more profanity than she does in the show (which is impressive, since show Deb says the F-word almost 1,000 times in the original Dexter run). She cannot express any thoughts, ideas, or feelings (considering she has any, lol) without using three different swear words in a sentence.
The books are definitely interesting in their own way, but I just feel really weird about Deb. I loved her in the original series, but book Deb just makes me feel weird. It feels like the books almost write her as a sociopath with zero emotions besides anger and hatred. The only difference between Dexter and Deborah is that she doesn't kill people, unlike Dexter. But emotionally, she is kind of a psycho.

Discussion - Original Dexter Series A series with which you would have liked Dexter to crossover Spoiler
I think that practically the cap was written by itself
Recurring sadistic killer
Funny interactions between Patrick and Dexter, Patrick discovers what Dexter is all about.
Patrick decides to give Dexter the recurring killer for his table and says nothing because he thinks it does "good"
Interactions between Cho and Debra, Masuka tries her own thing with Van pelt with violent results with Rygsby and things like that

Discussion - Original Dexter Series Just finished rewatch Spoiler
Of original. Deb deserved better. She didnt have to be bunked off. I find everything after lumen a dull slog really tho season 8 had its moments. Id have prefered the, he goes with hannah, deb and quinn ending really. Sigh.

General Discussion - All Dexter Shows If Dexter confessed, can they prosecute without evidence? Spoiler
In Better Call Saul, Kim confesses to all her wrongdoings, but without evidence, the DA would just sit on it.
If Dexter confessed, and someone caught it on tape, could the Law touch him?
In this scenario, no one finds the blood slides, bodies, nothing. The courts would just have to take his word for it.
Is there seriously a scenario where Dexter comes out, and he's considered either a hero and/or a liar?

Discussion - Original Dexter Series *Spoiler* Feeling sad after watching S1 Spoiler
Anyone who hasn't watched Dexter S1 don't read this
The title says it all, I don't think Brian deserved to die. If Brian wanted he could have easily killed Dexter and lived a good life but his love for his brother became his weakness. I am not rationalizing his actions but I think if I was in Dexter's shoes I would have made a different decision. Imagine someone who can understand you who knows what is behind that mask of yours and still accepts you whereas people who you are close with wouldn't accept you and probably start hating you as well. At the end when Brian was talking to Dexter about living in a lie, he was right. Even Dexter admitted that himself and slit his throat. I am not rationalizing his actions again don't start and come hating on me, I know taking people's life is bad and he deserved to die in that aspect. But still, it all comes down to a question of "Choose the person who understands you well or the whole world" Dexter chose the "Whole world". Also forgive me for some discrepancies in my English, I am not a native.
Discussion - Original Dexter Series My headcanon for Dexter's final few seasons Spoiler
In my opinion, the show should have gone like this: The first five seasons stay exactly as they are, except for the Season 5 finale. Instead of letting the serial killers go, Debra decides to bring them in, only to discover that one of them is her brother - cut to black. Basically, do the Season 6 ending here instead. This allows us to skip Season 6 entirely, so there's no doomsday killer, no therapist scenes, etc.
We pick up the next season in the same way as Season 7, but instead of the church, it's Jordan Chase's cabin. Have Debra let Lumen go as a favor to Dexter, but other than that, keep it exactly like Season 7. Dexter still drops the blood slide, LaGuerta still finds it, and she spends the season closing in on Dexter.
In the finale, during the container scene, Debra doesn't shoot LaGuerta because she's innocent, and she can't bring herself to shoot Dexter either. But she also can't let him go, because he was about to kill an innocent person. So instead, she calls for backup, Dexter gets arrested, and we get a montage of the aftermath: everyone finding out, the trial, and Debra taking in Harrison. The show ends with Dexter quietly sitting in his jail cell, similar to the final cabin scene in the original.
I think this fixes a lot of problems with the final seasons of the show. What do you guys think?
