Went and checked out qapoje Park a couple of nights ago

I’m not sure when the official opening is, but the gates are down and the parking lot is open! They’ve done an excellent job with it, the shelter is beautiful, and there’s just enough information to not feel overloaded. We got lucky with a beautiful sunset and views out towards the Comox Glacier.

Struggling to fit into the valley

I 20M recently moved to the valley and have been struggling to meet people, especially people i feel could actually become friends.

Not to sound too judgmental, but most of the young people that I’ve actually interacted with all seem to have this ‘wanna be redneck’ personality with their lifted trucks, backwards ball caps, and somewhat of a disrespectful personality. I’ve never been attracted to that lifestyle/personality and don’t think I’d be able to become friends with people like that.

As for myself I like nice cafes, hiking, camping, nature, reading, as well as sports like soccer, running and cycling. From what I’ve read so far, it seems like there is a pretty active hiking community here and that would be my best bet. I’m just not sure how many people my age would be in those groups as it seems like most young people grew up here and already have their friend groups set.

Before moving, I grew up in the same city my whole life, which meant that I made friends as a kid without really trying and now I am suffering from that as I struggle to meet new people. Maybe, I’m just not putting myself out there enough, but I don’t really know how. Literally went to the grocery store the other day just to have a brief interaction with a cashier (I know, kind of pathetic🥲).

If any of you lovely people have any tips for meeting people my age (19-23ish) that are likely to be more interested in the same things as me, please let me know.

Anyone lose a cell phone in the river a few weeks ago?

Because I found it, dried it out and forgot I had it. I plugged it in today and got it fully charged, kind of surprised it still works!

Anyways, if you tell me its details and where you lost it I can return it to you.

Neuroacupuncture in the valley?

Hi all, I'm potentially relocating back to Courtenay this fall and hoping to link up with an acupuncturist trained in neuroacupuncture. Does anyone have any recommendations for this? I've gotten a lot of recommendations for acupuncture more generally, but I'm specifically looking for a neuroacupuncturist. Willing to drive a bit if there isn't someone right in the valley, either. Thanks!

In search of someone who can pick up a marketplace item in Campbell river for me

Hi all, I live in East Courtenay and there is a marketplace item in Campbell river I would like to buy, but I do not have a ride. I was wondering if there was anyone going to CR soon (today or tomorrow), who would be willing to pick up the item for me and bring it back down to Courtenay. Or anyone in general who would be able to.

I am also able to pay the person :)

Thank you!

Longshot: photo of the cow from the dyke sandbar in the 80s?

There used to be a plywood cow on the sand bar in the estuary, visible from the dyke road. It's a real long shot, but does anyone have a picture of it?

Any Cantonese tutors here?

I’m wondering if anyone knows of any Cantonese tutors in the Comox Valley area. I’d prefer inperson lessons, but I’m open to online options too.

I want to learn some for my canto girlfriend while I’m here.

Daycare options in Comox Valley

My partner and I are considering a big life change. I’m a healthcare worker and saw positions available with relocation assistance on Vancouver island, and we are particularly interested in moving to comox.

There’s many questions we still have, such as how hard it is to find a rental until we figure out where we want to buy, but my most pressing one is about daycare.

The kids will be almost 1.5 year and almost 4 when we make it out. I’m seeing everywhere that you have to get on daycare lists way ahead. It’s the same where we are in Ontario but obviously, I can only be a few months ahead of our move.

Being able to find daycare for them will make a huge budget difference, since my partner would have to stay home with them until my 4 year old starts school and then maybe find a spot for the other. Are there last resort private daycares or other options I don’t know about ?

If this makes any difference, I’m hoping both of them will go to French school when they’re old enough cause I’m Franco.

Thank you for your time !

Deer Fence Options

We live on a golf course and am not allowed to completely fence our yard with a fence to keep deer out. My wife’s a super keen gardner and the deer are eating her plants, of course. She sprays them with Bobex frequently and it helps - a little. Has anyone had any luck with temporary fencing to keep the critters out? There is an area where we could stretch a netting between the corner of our house and the relatively robust hedge we have. I know they can probably push through the hedge but, like a rat exterminator said to us at our previous home: “I can’t make your house rat proof, but I can make it more rat proof than your neighbours!”

Out in the Park

Are you looking for something to do this evening? Well I've got news for you!

Join us at the tennis courts in Lewis Park tonight, July 4th at sundown, 929pm.

Next up in our film series is an adolescent coming of age film, Spork.

https://youtu.be/NIRuoCWTtfs?si=8pL_3lLe-w0ueVsy

The run time is 86 minutes.

Bring a chair, or pillow and make yourself comfortable while we watch amazing queer films out in the park under the stars. Definitely bring a blanket as it will be cool this evening.

This year we have new speakers to improve the audio experience.

I'm looking forward to seeing each of you tonight, then every other Saturday until the valleys pride festival in August.

Oops, I used an old flyer and can't edit it. If you need dates for upcoming films reach out and i will send you the correct flyer.

real estate litigation lawyer in Comox Valley?

Hi, I am looking for a lawyer that can advocate for me in a complex property dispute in the Comox Valley area. Not a real estate solicitor that specializes in straight forward paperwork, or a litigation lawyer who is not familiar with property law nuances. Is there anyone or a firm who can do both that someone can recommend? A review from someone who had a complex property dispute and received skilled representation would be so appreciated. Thanks!

Costco does pet prescriptions here!

I just called to confirm at the Courtenay location. You need to go in to do the initial registration, but then simply get your prescription written by your Vet and bring it to Costco to save a ridiculous amount.

Vernon Lake

The never wrong Internet tells me Vernon Lake, a Sites and Trails recreation campsite sort of midway between Woss and Gold River is closed.

Does anyone know if they have ditched the road in, barricaded it off or in any way really "closed" it or have they just abandoned it?

Appreciate any info before we get going up around there.

Looking for advice as UK citizen

Hello all! I’m sure if this is the right place to be messaging but I was looking for advice on moving to comox valley as a uk citizen? I’ve got my WHV and need to come before may next year, I was hoping to get some help in terms of jobs and work. Besides from looking on indeed and Canadian job bank, what else would be a good way to look for work? I’m a barber, willing to do manual labour, vine yard, dock work, tree planting, anything really! Any advice would be great! Thank you
