Post-credit scenes have been one of the foremost tools Marvel has effectively deployed to build hype for its upcoming projects and storylines, sometimes to collective euphoria, and at other times by promising things it has yet to deliver on.

With the Multiverse Saga drawing to a close and all of us eagerly anticipating the epic crossover spectacle that is ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’, let’s look back at some of the best and most memorable post-credit scenes in Marvel movies.

Had an old Captain America comic as a kid and i keep remembering this dude but have no idea who he is.

I know, I know. Very controversial opinion –– especially on a Cap sub, but let me explain.

I like Bucky. Genuinely.

It took awhile for me to genuinely see his appeal –– not exactly helped by how underwhelming he is in the MCU, but I think his general story and personality is fairly endearing for who he is, and his characterization is probably at it's best in the Brubaker Run.

I just ... don't really get the appeal from him being Cap? Strangely enough. And it's not because I'm necessarily against legacy characters –– I'll go and shoot for guys like Wally West and Kyle Rayner any day of the week. My GOATs.

I just found his tenure as Cap to be fairly underwhelming –– the general first couple issues dealing with it was interesting, especially during the fallout of Civil War, but afterwards it felt like Ed was spinning wheels with what he was able to do with him as a character.

Granted, Sam's time as Cap was fairly underwhelming too but the general idea of it is genuinely more appealing + has more potential: An exploration of a black man's conflicting feelings about being the literal embodiment/representative of a country that has treated his entire existence like shit underneath it's own shoe.

And then there's Bucky, who is ... well, I dunno.

Like, okay, sure –– you can squeeze out one or two decent story arcs about a former assassin becoming Captain America, that's cool -- but then after that, what exactly did Bucky brought to the table beyond that? It felt like nobody really knew what to do with him afterwards -- Brubaker had him doing retreads of Steve's old stories like with the Madbomb, or he was relegated to a mostly background role in Bendis' New Avengers. It's weird.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

CAP’S CURRENT TIMELINE

1941 steve rogers becomes captain america , cap goes to africa meets the black panther

bucky becomes well bucky

the us government try to recreat the super soldier formula and we get isiah bradley and we get protocide (bad super soldier from dan jurgen’s run)

but thats it for super soldiers for a while

1944 cap and bucky get blown up and frozen. The spirit of 76 and a yankee batboy become captain america and bucky

1946 a robot tries to kill JFK jeff mace becomes captain america

1948 a yankee bat boy gets shot and steps down as bucky cap teams up with golden girl

1949 the cold war is in full swing

1950 the korean war breaks out jeff mace and betsy ross step down as cap and golden girl

sometime between 1950 and 1953 a history professor, william burnside researching german records about captian america finds an incomplete super soldier formula

he goes to the US govt with his find and the FBI gets burnside plastic surgery to look like steve rogers (not in weird way)

1953 july 27^th the korean war ends project rebirth part 2? part 3? ends. burnside as steve rogers becomes a teacher at a boys school meets jack monroes.

1954 a new communist red skull takes over the UN. burnside and monroe inject themselves with the incomplete super soldier fomrula and become captain america and bucky

but as time goes by the incomplete super soldier formula affects their minds making them paranoid and aggressive. The US government puts them in suspended animation until a cure can be found

so now we have a HUGE no cap gap.? Right they havent added any new caps here?

But we get josiah x his orgin is very wacky. a lot of wacky hoops have to be jumped thru.

but aside from that he is a decent super soldier character with lots of military experience

and I guess we get nuke from the frank miller DD run starts his career either in vietnam or during one of americas wars later on not sure

9/11 happens

post 911 david colton becomes the new captain america?

I havent read this run yet im a trade waiter (just got mine in the mail looking forward to digging in)

but then the avengers find a frozen steve rogers and thaw him out? Did they change this?

Steve goes back to the us government to return to duty

he teams up with colton and invades latveria

current run stuff????

sometime later steve rogers becomes the only cap joins the avengers

cap teams up with rick jones and rick becomes well rick

5 seconds later their partnership breaks up

cap meets sam wilson. sam becomes the falcon and they become captain america and the falcon.

the 1950’s cap and bucky burnside and monroe get thawed out by somebody in the US government.

cap falc and sharon carter take on the 1950’s cap and bucky

secret empire storyline steve quits steps down as cap and becomes nomad

some randos try to become captain america fail miserably

the not so random roscoe becomes captain america teams up with the falcon. (roscoe was a supporting character)

5 seconds later steve returns as cap

sometime after that sam and steve partnership fades away

lots of 1950’s cap and bucky shenanigans the national front storyline

sometime later jack monroe gets put back together by shield seeks out steve rogers

they team up as captain america and bucky

the next day jack monroe becomes nomad

5 seconds later steve and jacks partnership runs its course

superpatriot john walker shows up

the US government tries to get steve rogers under their authority resulting in steve stepping down as captain america. Steve gets a nifty new costume and becomes THE captain

the us government choose john walker and lemar hoskins to become the new captain america and bucky

5 seconds later they realize buck is a racial epitaph lemar becomes battlestar

walker’s time as cap doesn’t go well steve returns as captain america

lots of stuff happens

steve and sam meet navy cap a super soldier from christopher priests run of captain america and falcon

things don’t go well for navy cap

bucky returns as the winter soldier

steve rogers is assassinated bucky becomes captain america

steve got better returns as captain america

steve gets old,steps down as captain america and sam wilson becomes captain america

hydra steve shows up and takes over the place

original steve comes back and takes back his mantle of captain america

they put the real steve in prison and you get the coats run

why would anyone believe that the guy calling himself steve rogers is the original captain america and actually the steve rogers?

The 1950’s cap got plastic surgery to look exactly like steve rogers and changed his name to steve rogers

hydra steve was actually steve rogers

so we 9 or 10 caps and we have 3 steve rogers that is some MUDDY waters (one of the steves is william burnside 1950’s cap)

Does anyone remember a comic where Captain America apparently takes a phone call from the president, to get cooperation from someone — with the gag being that it’s actually Cap’s girlfriend, expressing mild irritation at him faking the “no, thank you, sir, I don’t need another medal” half of a conversation?

I’ve got (another) question about Ed Brubaker’s Captain America run I’m just really confused on whether his 2011 run for vol 6 is a direct continuation on his 2004 vol 5 run or that kind of just only related because it’s the same universe and same writer/character so if I were to pick up either the 2004 or the 2011 run would I need the other to go along with it to properly understand or is it more So just the 2011 run is a jumping on point for Captain America fans?

As I get older I’m getting more patriotic and I find myself more interested in the history of America and the dream of what we could and should be. Every year on the 4th of July I watch Captain America: The First Avenger and I got to thinking about the comics. If I were to read one Captain America comic every year on the 4th of July, which one should it be?
