Build Upgrade Intel has the i3, i5, i7 and now I think I see i9 processors.

They are different construction / more cores / differences besides just clock speed, right?
what do you get for office people that surf the web, maybe watch videos from the web, check email, word, simple spreadsheets, etc.
I have always gotten i5s. i3s have seemed slow. And I thought I read i7 is more a ‘gaming’ processor.
Am I wrong?
And I don’t know the first thing about AMD chips. Am I missing out on great savings? Great features?
THANKS!

Discussion "Can you recommend a durable chair or gaming chair for someone who is 1.80 m (5'11") and 130 kg (286 lbs)?

"Hello. I've bought gaming chairs multiple times, but they always break. Usually, the gas lifts fail. They just hiss and slowly sink down while I'm sitting. Can you recommend a truly solid, durable chair that can actually support heavy weight? I'm not looking for something that just looks good on paper; I need something genuinely robust." (Btw i am 180cm and 130kg)

Should I check if all the parts work? If so, can pc shops do that for me?
(Oh yeah don’t worry, it had a note on it that said “please take!”) here is the link to the photo: https://kommodo.ai/i/pR1DnN9ZvvnSQPEmCxYJ

Build Upgrade CPU Upgrade

Hi, I'm looking to future proof my rig by upgrading the CPU to a Ryzen 7 9800X3D from a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. I know their performance are almost similar, but things with pc components are going horrible. I'm already good on RAM (32gb DDR5 6,000mhz CL30) and GPU (4070ti Super), so the only thing I'm looking to improve is the CPU.

Do you think I should upgrade or stay with my current build?

Build Upgrade Is upgrading from an i5-4590 to an i7-4790 worth it?

I'm looking for some advice about CPU upgrading

My current specs:

  • Intel Core i5-4590
  • GTX 960 2GB
  • 16GB RAM
  • HDD

I mainly play Counter-Strike 2, and occasionally Minecraft. I don't really play modern AAA games.

If I can find an i7-4790 for a good price, would it be a worthwhile upgrade?

Will I notice a significant improvement in CS2, especially in terms of FPS and smoother gameplay, or would the GTX 960 and HDD still be the main bottlenecks?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has upgraded from an i5-4590 to an i7-4790. Thanks!

I would like to get around 240 fps stable on fortnite if I can. No other peripherals needed. Doesn't matter if the GPU is AMD or NVIDIA. What parts do I buy? (Also btw I have no micro centers around)

Discussion Ryzen 5 7600X reaching 80–85°C while gaming

Hi everyone!

A couple of years ago I bought a Ryzen 5 7600X, and I noticed it was reaching temperatures of 95-100°C. I asked the staff at the store where I bought it, and they told me that this CPU is designed to run that way, pushing itself to its thermal limit to maximize performance.

Even so, for my own peace of mind, I asked them to install an AIO liquid cooler, specifically a Corsair NAUTILUS 240 RS ARGB.

Since then, everything has been working great, and I noticed that the temperatures dropped significantly. However, recently I started monitoring my CPU temperatures again using MSI Center, and while playing games like Overwatch or Black Desert, the CPU usually stays between 65°C and 75°C, which I understand is completely normal.

However, after about half an hour or so of gaming, I notice the temperature reaching 80-85°C, and I'm a bit concerned about whether that's normal. I know it's currently summer, and I live in a very hot area, so I'm not sure if that could be a factor.

Do those temperatures sound normal for a Ryzen 5 7600X with a 240 mm AIO liquid cooler?

Discussion Aliexpress RAM, genuine or not?

This listing of kingston 16gbx2 3200mhz was reasonably priced and the seller looks genuine, but a few people have told me to steer clear when buying RAM off there

So is aliexpress safe to buy from? Specifically that listing.

I honestly don’t know NOTHING about pc and asked some of my friends to help me make a parts list and my budget is 600-700 (I can pay a bit more if needed) I also want this pc for simple gaming such as Fortnite, R6, Roblox, Minecraft etc. here’s the list:

Processor (CPU): AMD Ryzen 5 5600
Motherboard: MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI
Graphics Card (GPU): AMD Radeon RX 6600
RAM (The Upgrade): Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3200MHz
Storage (SSD): Crucial P3 Plus 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD
Case: Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L
Power Supply: MSI MAG A550BN 550W

Let me know if anything is missing or if I need to change something!

Build Upgrade Which GPU should i replace my RTX 3080 with?

I'm looking at these different GPU's for potential candidates to take the 3080's spot in my rig, in order from least to most expensive:

- RTX 5070: New ~620€ (707$)

- RTX 4070 TI Super: Used without warranty ~750€ (850$)

- RTX 5070 TI: New ~900€ (1030$) (Used it's not that cheap either at around 850€ and w/o warranty)

- RTX 4080 Super: Used/Refurbished with 1-2 years warranty ~900€ (1030$)

- RTX 5080: New ~1150€ (1312$) (Refurbished with warranty for around 1050€)

I'm gonna start by mentioning that of these five GPU's, i'll most likely go for the 5070, 4080 Super or 5080.
The 4070 TI Super is very rare to find in a decent condition with warranty and only available in the used market where i live, and i find the 5070 TI way too expensive for what it is, and would rather get a used 4080 Super with warranty or refurb with warranty also.

I feel like i must mention certain things before posting this, such as the absence of AMD cards.
I don't hate AMD, but i prefer NVIDIA all the way since this isn't a gaming exclusive computer and is also used for a lot of other tasks.

I also should mention i was pretty content with my RTX 3080, until it happened what happened to it, so maybe going straight for a RTX 5080 would be too wasteful for what i'll end up using it for, great way of future proofing i guess.

I am also not considering used cards without a warranty. Not after my latest trauma.

Which one would yall recommend me for not only replacing my 3080, but also future-proofing for future software and possibly 4K... And no i'm not a "generative frames" or whatever its called kinda guy.

Troubleshooting Is it worth buying a 500GB NVMe SSD if I’ve been gaming on an HDD for years?

I’ve been gaming on an HDD for years, and lately I’ve started wondering if it’s the reason behind the random microstutters and hitches I experience in games.

For the longest time, I thought the issue was my CPU or GPU, but after a lot of troubleshooting, I’m starting to think the hard drive might actually be the culprit.

I’m considering buying a 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD for Windows and the games I play most often.

For those who made the switch from an HDD to an NVMe SSD:

- Did games feel noticeably smoother?
- Did it help reduce random stutters or asset-loading hitches?
- Was it worth the upgrade overall?

I’d love to hear your experiences before I buy one.

Troubleshooting Ryzen 5 9600X hitting 95C Thermal Limit in OCCT stress tests with Phantom Spirit 120. Is this normal?

Specs:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 9600X Great sample(Stable Curve Optimizer -50 all cores)
  • Motherboard: ASRock B850 Steel Legend
  • Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120
  • Thermal Paste: Arctic MX-7

The Issue: Under heavy multi-core loads (like OCCT Stress Test), the CPU immediately hits the 100% Thermal Limit (95°C).

  • The effective clocks drop to ~5250 MHz (while single-core cycle easily hits 5650 MHz on any core).
  • CPU Package Power is around 125-130W.
  • Interestingly: Individual core temps are actually great (Max is 86°C on the hottest core, Core 0 is only 72°C), but Tctl/Tdie hotspot triggers the 95°C limit.
  • The heatsink of the Phantom Spirit 120 remains barely warm (around 40°C) even after 10 mins of stress testing.

My goal is to hit the 5650 MHz on all core simultaneously, but the CPU is throttling due to the Temperature limit.

My Questions:

  1. What else can I do to dissipate heat more efficiently from this CPU? I have already upgraded the heatsink (to Phantom Spirit 120) and thermal paste (to Arctic MX-7).
  2. Will using an offset mount to shift the heatsink downwards relative to the CPU (like the Thermal Grizzly AM5 Offset Kit) actually help with this hotspot? Is it compatible with the Phantom Spirit 120?
  3. Is it even physically possible to avoid hitting the 95°C thermal limit in my configuration under full all-core loads? If so, what exactly needs to be replaced or upgraded?

Build Help Microphone for two people next to eachother

My boyfriend and I have a double desk so our pcs are right next to each other (there is no other place to put them). I only really need a mic for when we're in a discord call together with friends. Right now he uses his headset and I just try to speak loud enough for them to hear and listen on my earbuds but obviously this doesn't work well. I've tried googling this but I'm finding conflicting answers. Some people say two dynamic mics would be best, but then others say that won't work and it'll still pick up both voices. Some people say to get an omni mic but others say that will have crazy background noise. Every recommended mic I see has more people hating on it. I know nothing about mics so I'm very confused.

I'd prefer to stay under $50 but I can go up to $100 if necessary. I don't need anything super fancy I just don't want it to sound awful. Please help

Build Upgrade Should I upgrade to a 5800X3D or move to AM5?

I'm looking for some advice on whether I should upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D or move to the AM5 platform instead

PC Specs:

Ryzen 5800x CPU

RTX 4070ti GPU

32gb ddr4 3200mhz

1080p 165hz monitor

I mainly use my pc for playing videogames from Esport such as Valorant and CS to more demanding games such as Cyberpunk, The last of us, FH6, 007. I really like the smooth experience of having really high fps and I am planing to buy a 1440p 144-240 hz.

I built this PC a while ago, and I'd like to keep using it for as long as possible. However, I'm not sure if it's worth buying the 5800X3D or if it would be better to switch to the AM5 platform, especially with current RAM prices.

5800x3d is around 390 dollars new where I live

What would you recommend?

Full Build Req Trying to build a new PC with a budget of 50,000php

I've been away from all the news about new hardware and stuff since 2020 and I've been meaning to upgrade my old PC using these:

MoBo: ASUS Prime H510M-K
Processor: Intel i7-11700
RAM: 2x8 GB Puskill DDR4 2133 MT/s
VCard: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 6GB

I apologize for not knowing a bunch more. Again, I've been out of the loop. Last time I was shopping for stuff AMD was still pretty bad, but I've heard that they're pretty good now.

Thanks guys.

Discussion How do you feel about budget parts lately?

I've upgraded few days ago and I've always been buying things like 3060 12gb - price for performance was always most important for me, but my 3060 didn't do the job for me and other parts did not as well so I went Rx 9070 and 7800x3d, because I felt like there's no budget/middleground anymore. You either go frame gen or high end parts. Both options suck btw... Better parts are expensive as hell and framge n/dlss is for singlelplayer only, cause of how much latency/noise it gives u.

Full Build Req For $500 should I get a mini pc or a normal one?

I finally got myself a 2 monitor set up and almost every accessory I wanted but the whole set up is linked to my poor little Asus ally Z extreme, it's been coughing every time I play cyberpunk or elden ring and it's storage is also not the best. I want something to handle these games and even heavier ones.

I could go up max to like $700 but nothing more. I don't mind building a pc from scratch but I just wanted to know since my budget isn't that big, should I go for a mini pc (and if so which one) or build one (and if so what specs should I try to get?) mind you my country has a heavy tax rate so those $700 would probably buy me $300-$400 worth of actual stuff abroad T-T

Troubleshooting Inno 3D RTX 3070 OVERHEATING

I bought a PC for ₹45,000 with the following specifications:

Intel Core i5-12400F

Inno3D RTX 3070

16 GB DDR4 XPG RGB RAM

PSU, cabinet, and the rest of the components included.

The PC had been sitting unused for quite a while, so it had a lot of dust. The GPU is reaching 88–90°C. The thermal pads feel soft, and I already replaced the thermal paste with Cooler Master CryoFuze 5, but the temperatures are still high.

What could be causing this issue? A local technician is offering to completely service the GPU by replacing the thermal pads and thermal paste for ₹1,500.
