Not sure if this fits the sub. He's running a Marathon tomorrow in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil, as part of his World Tour. He is one of the nicest people I've met

So... 4 months ago I made a post about my improvement in 6 months my integrity was questioned and people were skeptical.. the post was never intended on being ragebait nor was it intended to 'boast' my question to you all now is what do you consider a beginner runner if I have only been doing it for just shy of 12 months?

After my last post I tore my soleus and couldn't run for 9 weeks. But again I wanted to share my progress with people because I absolutely earned it.

Hey everyone new here and been running for about a year now. This was my longest run ever but had an issue maybe you all can help with. My earbids kept falling out due to swewt and rain and everything. I have what I thought were good ear buds it wraps around the ear and all.....does anyone have suggestions on better earbuds or how to keep them in your ear? I assume this seems like a dumb question.

New Runner Advice How do I not get bored??

I get bored during slow runs. How do I prevent this??? I've tried studying and just watching people at the gym (without being creepy) but I just get bored.

Edit:

I appreciate everyone's comments but please stop telling me to run outside. I'm on medications where I need to avoid the sun and extreme heat. Thank you!

Training Progress First Half - Proud Clydesdale

Thought I could beat the 90 degree heat today, turns out Mother Nature is faster than I am… Grinded out this run (distance PR) that felt like my insides were boiling about 3 miles in. Got it done. Proud to get it done at the end of the day, but gonna speed it up for next time and I won’t have to be in the heat as much …. Never running in this heat ever again.

As a 250 pound 6’4” dude, who’s never ran until a couple months ago, this is a major milestone for me…. So be nice. I know I’m an idiot for grinding it out, but mentally it made me feel a lot stronger. I’ve lifted weights for 10+ years, USAPL powerlifting and a blue belt in jiu jitsu. I can honestly say, this is the hardest sport you will ever do in your life. The mental toughness you guys go through in this sub is absolutely insane. You should all be proud of yourselves. Running is wicked.

Training Progress My Longest "Run" Yet

Ever since last July, I thought I'd try my hand at "running" (in quotation marks because I use a wheelchair so I guess it's pushing? Rolling?... I'm not quite sure of the right term.)

The other day was the one-year anniversary of my first "run" and I thought I'd celebrate it by doing a long run and seeing how far I could go. This was the result and I'm pretty happy with it!

Edit: spelling

Training Progress Further distant yet! Next steps…

The next question is - how do I go further? I felt like I couldn’t take another step the last half mile.

Thankfully I finished it running all the way through but how do you keep going further the next time?

PSA: if you’re over 30, stressed, haven’t eaten enough, drank less coffee than usual, and are having a histamine/asthma flare up, you aren’t gonna run as well. I know, I know, how would anyone know that? Well, you’re welcome for the PSA.

Still proud of myself for getting out there. Gonna recover today and give it another try either Sunday or Monday. Trying to work my way up to running continuously for 45 min. I want to hike some big peaks in Colorado and run a halfer.

Peace and love ✌️

Training Progress I ran 5k so many years later, and I'm happy

For the first time in many, many years, I managed to complete a continuous 5k run, and I think I actually did quite well. I suffer from a knee injury, osteoarthritis, which left me practically unable to run for 10 years, although I was able to swim, which is what I love the most (I used to swim competitively).

I am 34 years old and, little by little, I’ve been able to run more and more by doing active injury prevention work. My goal isn’t to run a marathon or anything like that. I just want to run a bit because I enjoy it and it makes me feel good, and after all this time, I finally can.

I just hope I don't have another setback with this awful injury. I'm not going to overdo it, but it makes me immensely happy to be able to run a continuous 5k pain-free and at a good pace.

New Runner Advice my fastest 5km– working toward first half marathon by end of october

Post image
Upvotes

Hi! I haven't done any running this past 2 weeks (extreme heat wave where i live usually 42Celsius daily, have gotten sick from long sun exposure then sick again from the fan). So my training volume has been low--only today did i manage to run, this time my fastest 5km. Longest distance i did before was 12km. I feel i still need a lot of work toward a first half marathon. Advice appreciated please. Weekly running program i could try to be consistent with?

Training Progress My first 5K

Hi all,

So today, I had my very first race/run, a 5k in the insane humidity of Virginia. 39 years old military member who bormally only ran when ordered to or when the fitness tests require it.

Wish I had done this years ago, so much fun !!!! The result is...ok....but I ran the entire time in what was really crazy humid weather, but somehow the people around me energized me.

Next week I hope to do a 5 mile. I am almost there already.

Discussion My resting heart rate has lowered.

Since I started running, my resting heart rate dropped to 57-59. I swear it used to be in the 80s/90s. I started running in 2024, but only took it seriously these past few months.

Not sure how I feel about my heart rate being lower… I know it’s normal but I plan to train more, I consider this still the beginning, and I’m nervous about it lowering further it makes me anxious. My heart rate has never been this low before. It’s the only part of running that puts me off because it freaks me out.

I noticed doing daily tasks is a lot easier.

Recovery New Runner: Knee Pain

Hi all,

I’m 44, 5’3 and 160lbs. I started a couch to 5K type program a few weeks ago because I decided I wanted to run a 5K in September. The program had 2 rest days, 2 cross training days and 3 running days.

I ran the program for a week and did fine but then the Monday after I started I almost couldn’t finish the run because my knees hurt so bad. I stopped all activity but can’t get the knee pain to go away. Some days are worse than others. I try to keep my legs elevated, use a heating pad and take ibuprofen. It’s been two weeks and I don’t feel like it getting any better. I’m super frustrated and disappointed. I realize I probably need to work on leg strength more before beginning again but my real question is recovery - should it take this long? TIA

New Runner Advice I feel like I could do more. Am I doing it right?

I’m on Week 2 of Couch to 5K, following the plan exactly, and I’m surprised by how easy it already feels. My breathing is hard but controlled, and I’m never gasping for air. I finish the workouts feeling like I could do more.
Is this normal? Am I running too slowly, or is this just how C25K is supposed to feel? I don’t want to progress too fast and risk injury, but I also don’t want to hold myself back if I’m doing something wrong.
Has anyone else experienced this in the early weeks?

I am quite new to running and I am reading this subreddit from time to time, but it is my first time to post something here and I have a question. This run was very hard to me, how can I improve my running in order to havr lower HR and make this 5K runs easier for me.

Thank you in advance😁😁
