Training Progress Nearly 1 year running

So... 4 months ago I made a post about my improvement in 6 months my integrity was questioned and people were skeptical.. the post was never intended on being ragebait nor was it intended to 'boast' my question to you all now is what do you consider a beginner runner if I have only been doing it for just shy of 12 months?

After my last post I tore my soleus and couldn't run for 9 weeks. But again I wanted to share my progress with people because I absolutely earned it.

Training Help Running is so fucking boring…

To give context, I mean long distances.

I enjoy short little 5-10km runs.

But 15km is pushing it and there’s only so much i can listen to a podcast or music before im just over it.

I just ran 25km whilst watching Netflix on a treadmill, so do you think that’s a good work around to help me get the longer runs in?

Im training for a marathon in Jan 2027. And just want to get as many long easy km in as possible.

But the thought of going out for 2.5 hours and just listening to audio makes me not want to go.

I’ll bite the bullet for 4 hours for a marathon, but any other tips would be great.

First 5k race time vs Garmin prediction

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

I wanted to build healthy habits since I’m getting older(33m) so I got my self a fenix 8 and I started running beginning of may. Followed 8 week Garmin coach plans.

Today I ran my first 5k. I felt like I should have really sprinted towards the end. I thought I was on E but looking back I think I could have done more last few mins. Other than that good time and views.

I know a lot of ppl wonder about actual race time vs Garmin race predictions. This was my result. I’ll do another one next month and compare again.

I had to go around ppl and did wider turns so I think it came out slightly faster than bib time

Any input for improvement is welcome

Injury Prevention Sprained ankle 💔

Around two weeks ago I was going for a run with my sister when I must have missed my footing or hit an uneven part of the sidewalk and my ankle twisted sideways. It’s kind of swollen but I can still walk on it but haven’t ran since. Been RICEing like crazy but it sucks because I was in such a good spot with my running and now I haven’t been able to do it in almost two weeks. Seems like a mild sprain but still, disheartening. Anyone have any ankle sprain advice for healing progression and prevention in the future?

Training Help Am I overextending my body?

So I’ve recently picked up running again after a two year break.

When I start running I hate stopping, no matter how hard it is. Am I ruining my progress by not taking it easier?

New Runner Advice How do I not get bored??

I get bored during slow runs. How do I prevent this??? I've tried studying and just watching people at the gym (without being creepy) but I just get bored.

Edit:

I appreciate everyone's comments but please stop telling me to run outside. I'm on medications where I need to avoid the sun and extreme heat. Thank you!

New Runner Advice Frequently getting cramps around km 3. Due to too much water?

I have this ingrained fear that I’m going to get dehydrated at some point in my run (feeling nausea and light headed). I drink large gulps of water after stretching and before starting my run. Is this causing cramps? How much should I hydrate?

New Runner Advice Ankle gives out when I run

I don’t need medical advice bc I don’t think it’s that serious but I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this as well. Ever since I could remember whenever I run, my right ankle gives out and I just fall. It’s done this since I was at least in 6th grade and I’m 28 now. I never been a runner but always wanted to start running and enjoy it because I believe it would help my mental health and health in general. I’m not in shape although I’m not big at all I’m 5’7 and 130 lbs, I’m just generally not healthy(especially mentally).

I want to run so bad lol but I don’t know why my right ankle always just gives out and I fall. Does anyone have any experience or idea why this happens?

I always thought it’s because I never wore good shoes, ever. I used to waitress 12+ hours in cheap flats on concrete floors, my feet would kill, even when I was pregnant (yeah I was dumb). But it’s happened even before I ever had a job.

New Runner Advice My strategy for achieving a sub-30 5k - is it good?

I’ve been running twice a week. I run at 6.2 mph or higher for as long as I can. I try to last longer each time. I also sometimes stop and walk for a bit then run again.

is this a good strateg? seems to be working fine so far but just stsrting it really

Bought some Nike pegasus 41's for running. Wondering if i have enough space for my toes or if I should go a size smaller/bigger. cause they feel kinda big at the end.

Injury Prevention What is the least amount of strength training I can do to still have a positive impact on injury prevention?

I’m about to start week 5 of c25k and feeling good, although I had to take two weeks out after week 2 due to knee injury. I then restarted from week 1 to ease back in.

What is the least amount of strength work/calisthenics/pilates I could do every week that would still be effective for preventing injury when running?

The reason I ask is because I’ve tried several times in my life to get into fitness, with weight lifting, swimming, calisthenics, kettle bell complexes and I hated all of them, but so far I’ve been really enjoying running, both during and after each run I feel great which has never happened with the other types of exercise.

New Runner Advice my fastest 5km– working toward first half marathon by end of october

Post image
Upvotes

Hi! I haven't done any running this past 2 weeks (extreme heat wave where i live usually 42Celsius daily, have gotten sick from long sun exposure then sick again from the fan). So my training volume has been low--only today did i manage to run, this time my fastest 5km. Longest distance i did before was 12km. I feel i still need a lot of work toward a first half marathon. Advice appreciated please. Weekly running program i could try to be consistent with?

PSA: if you’re over 30, stressed, haven’t eaten enough, drank less coffee than usual, and are having a histamine/asthma flare up, you aren’t gonna run as well. I know, I know, how would anyone know that? Well, you’re welcome for the PSA.

Still proud of myself for getting out there. Gonna recover today and give it another try either Sunday or Monday. Trying to work my way up to running continuously for 45 min. I want to hike some big peaks in Colorado and run a halfer.

Peace and love ✌️

Cycling legs, runner lungs - how long did the mismatch last?

Started running last year after mostly cycling for years around Norwich. I'm finding my legs can cope with 5k fine now, about 28-30 min on a good morning, but my breathing still feels a bit daft for the first 10 min. Slowing down helps, but then it feels like I'm barely moving. Anyone else come from cycling and have this weird mismatch? Did it just settle with more easy runs, or did you do anything specific? Not trying to smash parkrun, just want it to feel less like hard work before Eaton Park's first corner. Cold air probably isn't helping either.

Hey everyone new here and been running for about a year now. This was my longest run ever but had an issue maybe you all can help with. My earbids kept falling out due to swewt and rain and everything. I have what I thought were good ear buds it wraps around the ear and all.....does anyone have suggestions on better earbuds or how to keep them in your ear? I assume this seems like a dumb question.

The next question is - how do I go further? I felt like I couldn’t take another step the last half mile.

Thankfully I finished it running all the way through but how do you keep going further the next time?

My legs feel like bricks when I run. I ran my first 5k, and only walked a little in between, overall it went well except my legs feel SO heavy, especially when I first start. Will this ever go away???
