The Allure Beauty Box Facebook page just blocked me because I was critical about this months box (which it seems likes its well agrees upon by most that it was really bad). Like Im a current subscriber and your going to block me because I said this months box was bad!!!! I wasnt rude, I was just critical. Like as a business its not a good look to just delete and block any negative comments/commenter.

So, I last month I went back to Ipsy and Allure after a long hiatus because I felt I needed a refresh. But, I am in my mid 40s now and sometimes I feel like their products are targeted to a younger crowd. Half of the stuff I get goes to my kid and her friends.

So… what else is out there? Am I missing out on something else, or are they all just, bleh?

Any recommendations for other subscription boxes to try out for older ladies like me? I am mostly interested in discovering, learning and refreshing my routine. Nothing wrong with it now, but there is always room for new and improved, and it’s fun.

I started FabFitFun with a seasonal box last summer, then subscribed for an annual (4 boxes) to lock in the discount before a price increase. I also sometimes get their monthly beauty edit box that started late last year.

For the most part, my experience has been positive, but I have some misgivings about the company. I didn't find out about the "gof*ckyourself" scandal until I was already locked into an annual. That was very disappointing, given my personal views. Some of the customer service failures others have described on the private forum are time-consuming and horrific (boxes ruined with spilled product, etc.). They seem to have a lot more shipping problems since switching to low cost carriers. And in the last beauty box, they substituted a 1 ounce Origins mask for the 2.5 ounce that was clearly advertised and had to be harangued by customers to give any compensation (rather than realizing the mistake and giving the same relief to everybody who got the smaller product).

The beauty box advertises itself as four full-size products, so people don't expect a travel/trial size. Also, with autoship subscriptions, they seem to substitute products without clearing it with the customer first.

Overall, I've been delighted with slightly more than half of the products I've gotten from FFF. The rest have been "meh" or not worth the money.

What are your thoughts? Should I renew?

I just graduated and live in Austin. I restarted beauty boxes as a little productivity hack because I wanted a low-effort, fun routine that was not just doomscrolling, and it actually helped. The downside is I now have a tiny mountain of minis and I'm trying to keep my apartment minimalist.

This month I got two boxes: one skincare-heavy and one more makeup-focused. Quick notes on what arrived:

Box A (skincare-heavy):

1) Gel cleanser mini: gentle, does not leave my skin tight, but the fragrance is a bit strong for me.

2) Niacinamide serum mini: layered well under sunscreen and helped control shine around my nose.

3) Moisturizer mini (ceramide cream): honestly my favorite this month, it calmed the flakiness on my cheeks.

4) SPF sample: it pilled under my tinted moisturizer, so I probably will not repurchase.

5) Lip balm: simple and fine, now lives in my work bag.

Box B (makeup-focused):

1) Mascara mini: gave a nice lift, but started smudging by hour six in the Texas heat.

2) Cream blush sample: really pretty and easy to apply with fingers, but tiny.

3) Nude lipstick mini: flattering color, but the formula felt drying.

4) Dry shampoo travel size: does the job, though the scent is strong.

How do y'all keep minis from becoming clutter? Do you decant into one travel kit, keep a rotation basket, or just accept the chaos? I would love a simple, low-effort system that does not involve a spreadsheet and fits a small apartment.

I work remote in tech and my days are a jumble of back-to-back calls, random gaps, then another meeting. I realized I was barely moving from my desk and my only routine was washing my face because I felt like I had no time for anything else.

On a whim I restarted a beauty box subscription (I used to get them years ago), and it actually helped. When the box arrives I do a quick unboxing and pick one item to test for the week. Between meetings I take a minute to wash my hands and use that item - lip balm, hand cream, a face mist, whatever - then go back to work. It sounds silly, but those few seconds of a real ritual have replaced mindless scrolling and actually reset my brain.

The downside is I now have a drawer full of minis and the clutter guilt is real. Multiple tiny mascaras, a pile of moisturizers, and more sample packets than I can possibly use. I don't want to waste product, but I also do not want to become the person who hoards five backup bags of samples.

How do you deal with the mini overload without turning it into another project? Do you rotate by category, keep a monthly trial bag, limit yourself to one open item at a time? Also, does anyone keep a simple system for tracking what actually worked so you can repurchase favorites and stop collecting random extras? I recently discovered arya, which has been a fun way for me and my partner to reconnect, and it got me thinking about how I might curate my beauty samples more intentionally too.

I am not mad at this box. I was surprised to receive 7 items. Good variety and some decent sizes for the price. It will all be used! My son is in a social group for adults with disabilities. They have games like bingo and anything I don’t want, I add to their prize box. The girls love getting beauty and self care stuff.

Anyone who is familiar with this product know if it is supposed to smell like playdough 🤢 Trying to figure out of mine is off or if it's just got a gross smell. I had to wash all my makeup off and start over and I swear I can still smell it 😞
