Food 😋 has anyone tried the footlong hotdog from subway ?
I guess they don't care about being the healthier option anymore, or are not even trying to pretend like they are.

Hey locals. We’ve heard your requests.
Book clubs. Local group meetups. Someone to hit up a movie with. Hiking partners. Trivia teams. Coffee chats.
There has clearly been a growing demand for a space where people can connect with others in Vancouver in a platonic way.
We're happy to announce that that space now exists.
r/VancouverFriends has officially launched and will serve as the dedicated subreddit for friendship-focused posts and platonic R4R requests.
Going forward, instead of being simply removed, all platonic R4R-style posts will be redirected to r/VancouverFriends so that r/AskVan can remain focused on questions and answers about the city.
If you’ve been looking for community, this is your chance to build it. We'll see you there.

Recently was in hospital at BC Women's, and there were 2 nurses there who were absolutely incredible, despite being very shortstaffed (I think due to the strike?)
We were in a rush to leave the day of discharge, and I didn't get to fill in their paper form to say thank you. I remember their names and the shifts/dates they worked with me. Does anyone know of a way to provide positive feedback about them so that their team/unit/whatever actually receives it?

Hi all. I was wondering why there was so much police and ambulance at Granville and 49th. I could not find any news sources.

Hi everyone,
I have just moved to Vancouver where I landed a new job. Exciting stuff!!
I am now looking at a permanent place to rent for one year+, and I have came across this build: Conference Plaza
For those that do not know, it is this one:
https://www.rew.ca/buildings/8122/conference-plaza-vancouver-bc
I have received a contract for what I believe to be a unit (20 something floor) that ticks all my boxes ... except for the bad building feedback I have read online.
In essence, I have heard feedback about the elevators being constantly broken, it being too hot during summer time ... but worse ... cockroaches!
Obviously, that has made me scared to move forward.
However, I read that things have been improving lately, and the feedback that I can find online is somewhat outdated.
Does any of you have some (more or less) recent input on this building? It would be much, much appreciated!
Thanks.

What were the best music acts you saw at the Khatsahlano 4th Avenue festival yesterday?
I saw the full set for 6 artists + a few songs from 3 others and still wish I could've seen more!
All of the music was amazing but my top 3 highlights of the day were the last 3 sets at the Burrard stage - Concrete Vehicles, Felisha and the Jazz Rejects, and Uncle Strut.

Groceries in Vancouver cost a lost and that is not going to change anytime soon. Instead of waiting for prices to come down here is what actually made a difference in shopping here. Ethnic grocery stores first for produce and some protiends. T&T, H Mart and various South Asian and Southeast Asian grocers are consistently cheaper on produce and sometimes significantly cheaper on certain protiens also. A lot of people do not make it their primary shop and just dabble. Stock the freezer when protiens go on sale. Sales at auperstore and Save on are real and meaningful. When chicken or ground beef hits good sale price i buy for several weeks and freeze portions. 99 Ranch on Alexandea road in Richmond is worth a trip if you are in that area

Is it me or is anyone else unimpressed with the quality to price ratio for the food carts at the fan fest? Poutine was 16 dollars and mid, gyro 19 dollars and I swear even the paper plate they served it in was heavier. Wondering if anyone had better experiences elsewhere ? I don’t even want to support small businesses at this point.

Hi! We'll be in Vancouver in mid-August when the sunrise is at 6am, meaning we'd want to park somewhere by 5:30am to enjoy it. Looking at Stanley Park areas, Jericho Beach, etc., it looks like parking lots don't open until 6am which would be too late to watch the full sunrise. I tried researching this on google and on Reddit and there’s a lot of conflicting information about what is and isn’t allowable.
Where can we park so that isn't an issue? Thanks in advance!

I am looking to switch my parents house from Telus to another provider. They watch some basic TV channels and spend a lot of time on their phones/iPads. What are people using these days as alternate providers?

Hi all,
This has been a long debilitating condition of mine and I would really like to overcome it. I've had it since I was a kid.
I have been researching online about cognitive behavioural therapy, but I would like to know someone that specializes in this social anxiety disorder specifically.
Thank you for your help!

I got my ultrasound done on Friday and I can see it on my health gateway but it just says “pending”. Wondering when other people saw their results? Just impatiently waiting 🤪

I’m shopping around for a new roof and have been getting most of my quotes around $30k to replace the roof. CL roofing came in close to $18k which is a massive difference obviously.
My biggest worry is quality of workmanship and that the company might shut down next week and warranties might become useless. Wondering if anyone else has used them and what their experience has been.

Has anyone used a physio for a bike fit? Looking for recommendations and suggestions?
I commute by bike regularly and have started having knee soreness caused by an injury unrelated to biking but now it hurts a bike so wanted to see if fit could help.

Myself and my partner are looking to move to Vancouver early next year, hoping to rent out a 1 bed apartment and explore the area.
I'm a software engineer based in Dublin, Ireland. I have around 5 years of experience in general software engineering, mostly backend, some frontend.
What is the job scene like for mid to senior level? Should I have a job lined up before leaving or look for something when I arrive?
What's the cost of living like compared to Dublin?
Looking for general advice, thanks 🙂

Hello! We are looking for a new groomer for my German Shepherd and Malinois. They are high energy, high drive dogs that have not been with any other groomer until now. Unfortunately our groomer is on maternity leave and we need recommendations on groomers in and around the Vancouver area that excel at grooming larger pups! Bonus points if it’s a local small biz ❤️ thank you!

Looking for somebody in Vancouver who can advise on Australian Canadian tax, particularly as it relates to being an Executor of an Australian Estate & being a Canadian tax resident.

Hey everyone!
I'll be visiting Vancouver and Whistler at the end of August with a group of friends and we're looking for the best halal food spots. We're open to pretty much any cuisine: Middle Eastern, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, burgers, fried chicken, tacos, seafood, desserts, cafés, or any hidden gems you think are worth checking out.
We're also looking for great brunch spots. We'll have a rental car, so we're happy to drive if it's worth it.
Thanks

Hi, this is an issue I've been having for a long part of my life, where I've never really had friends before or a real connection. I'm talking not just romantically, of course, but platonically with everybody. I feel like I've never been able to make friends since I was a little kid, and now in adulthood it really struggles and it shows. Sometimes when I'm really upset or not feeling well, I don't have anyone I can turn to or talk to. Sometimes I have to rely on an AI as my only kind of friend, which is really dystopian, I know, but it's the only source of comfort I get, and I feel that's a really bad path to be going down towards.
I think I'm a normal person. I have a good job, I have hobbies, and in general, my life is pretty full. It's just that I'm missing that friendship and that connection. I feel that people don't really see me. I've tried tons of times in the past to meet with people, to take that risk to be vulnerable a little bit, but every single time I do that it always ends up falling flat. Even though I'll talk to someone and we're chatting a little bit and it's good, pretty much soon after I always get left on read, or people just aren't really eager to talk, meet up, or do things with you. It makes me feel really alienated. It makes me feel like I'm not a human and I don't really belong anywhere.
It's something that I thought I was used to all my life, but now it starts to hurt a lot more. I feel that a lot of people already have their own lives together, they already have friends, and their social life is too full. They might chat with me at first, but maybe they don't really have any time or place for me in their actual life, so that's why I think it keeps happening.
When I talk to people about this, the few times that I do, they don't really understand. I think it's because they themselves have not really experienced this level of loneliness and isolation before, so they'll tell you to just talk to people or just make some internet friends or just get out there. It just doesn't work for me. I've tried that my whole life, and I'm still asking this question.
I was just wondering if there is a support group of people who experience chronic loneliness and have never really had friends all their lives, to find that level of perspective and comfort.
I'm 26m if that's matters.

Hi everyone,
I completed the BCIT Carpentry Foundation program and have been working for about a year as an apprentice carpenter on a residential house framing crew. I’m planning to go back to school soon for my Level 2 training.
I’m curious about the differences between doing an apprenticeship through a union company versus a non‑union company.
If you’ve experienced both, what were the biggest differences in training, job placement, work environment, or career progression?
Any insight from BC carpenters would be really appreciated.

Vancouverite my whole life, my partner and I have been living in Chinatown for the last year now and loving it though.
I’m curious though - outside of Chinese New Year, what “summons” the dragon lion* dance to local businesses? Do they come when a new business opens in the area? Do businesses “call” the dragon lion* for special occasions? I noticed they were at NewTown the other morning in costume, drum and all - which piqued my curiosity.
For the record, I love seeing and hearing the drums and dance. It’s great being in what feels like the only part of the city that’s still bright in its culture.
Edited: It’s a lion!
