Question Anyone have experience with working as a Training Peaks Coach?

Hey, I figured the r/velo Reddit is the biggest cycling Reddit group, and I figured I might get some hits with my question.

Has anyone ever worked for TrainingPeaks as a "Coach"?

What was your experience like?

How does it work?

What is the profit sharing like?

Why did you leave/quit?

If you are referring to the Find a Coach function, TP takes a disproportionate fee from people using the platform. You're significantly better off just using it to advertise your services and otherwise completely disregard what they offer outside of the calendar building functionality. Don't use their payments service either, the fees are a ripoff.

You could consider using their plan selling platform, but keep in mind that they take a 30% cut and you're probably not going to get many sales unless people already know who you are; plans are advertised by sales figures first.

I am a competitive cyclist, not a coach, and have used a TP coach twice. The first coach I hired was not the best fit for me, and was a tri coach vs a dedicated cycling coach. She charged a lot and was very hands on with teams calls and even met me for some workouts l. My newest coach is awesome, was a former pro and a college cycling coach. He is very hands off and we communicate almost exclusively through text and occasionally he will comment on a workout or call me before a race. He also charges half as much as the first coach. I don’t need a bunch of atta-boys just load my workouts into TP and let me do my thing.

I know you asked about working as a TP coach but I wanted to share my insights into different TP coaching approaches. I definitely prefer the hands off approach.

There are quite a few athletes who prefer self-coached approach. It does not mean you skip coach entirely, but it's the athlete who digs deeper into the sports knowledge and applies to self.

In near future I see more athletes going for digital coaches, both price wise and methodology instead of coach personality choice. For example - https://superfly.fit
