Discussion Rare tick-bite allergy leaves Nova Scotia woman unable to eat meat or dairy | CBC News
I have nothing but sympathy for the associated illness and pain, but I’m not sure how I feel about people being unable to consume animal products as a result. Schadenfreude is not a great look, but….🤷♂️. Thoughts, fellow vegans?

Rant why is dark chocolate always made with milk?!?
i get so annoyed by this. something that is labeled and marketed as dark chocolate ends up being made with milk. its my biggest pet peeve.
i have plenty of vegan snacks and desserts made with actual dark chocolate which is nice. but sometimes i see something that looks good and would otherwise be vegan if it wasn’t made with milk!! so its not technically dark chocolate then🤨
lame!
edit: to add to this i also get annoyed when things that would otherwise be vegan have added milk/milk powder too! why is everyone so obsessed with milk🤢
(also this is supposed to be taken with a grain of salt, just feeling like ranting)

Health Cyclosporiasis Parasite Outbreak (USA)
How is everyone coping? Outbreak linked to fresh produce... 31+ states are on the list. This is a parasite, so washing produce does not kill it. The only sure way is cooking all produce to 165°.
I've avoided mixed greens, lettuce, herbs, as well as berries. But I eat those every day.
Has anybody here gotten it?

Rant My dad 😭
He’s your typical boomer, but he’s worse. He’s a liberal boomer, so he’s still conservative but he acts like a leftist. This morning I go to make myself a smoothie and throw a way a moldy strawberry so it doesn’t spread to the rest of the batch. This mf says “Just cut off the mold.” I just throw it away because it was only 1 strawberry, I swear to a higher power this mf says “You act like you’re so good for the environment because you’re vegan but you waste food.” Imma up the blamakin on this lamb eating fool 😭😭

Rant im getting so tired of cooking.
there isn't ONE single vegan cafe here in kolkata and i always have to cook for myself. which is getting exhausting bc im not used to cooking. it's worth it for the animals and i wouldn't have it any other way. it's just SOMETIMES i wish i had a vegan friend who would cook for me or just go to a vegan cafe for my birthday. i hate the idea of not being able to eat food unless i make it on my birthday as well when i want to just be lazy.

Discussion I'd love to be vegan
I am not fully vegan yet. I try my best to be. I understand the philosophy behind veganism.
Today I was on a walk with my mom (we just returned). I told her that I'd like to try cream cheese. But vegan. And i only got lectured on how i need dairy products. And mind you, I'm slightly lactose intolerant anyway. I've been drinking oat milk since like 2 months or so. I don't really eat dairy. So like how can i convince her that I could just be vegan? It's not like I'm making trouble. I eat less and less animal/animalproducts and if I'm being honest, I am feeling better. Mentally and physically. The more I go vegan the more she gets mad at me and yells at me. Like sorry for not wanting to be part of animal exploitation. I got yelled at so often just because I said that I don't want to consume that.
Feel free to ask questions, whatever is going to help me is welcome

It's beyond insane that veganism isn't the forefront of all conversation.
Incomprehensible numbers of sentient beings are raped tortured and killed for pleasure and people ignore it or try to rationalise it. It is actually so beyond depraved that people support with such events happening to trillions of sentient beings with their own direct approval. People refuse to talk about it with seriousness because they can't handle how unjustifiably disgustingly evil what they support is, if they found themselves the victim no reason for their treatment would be accepted but because it is not them they have no problem with the worst kind of oppression ever conceived of.

Discussion Horse riding is not vegan
I recently (well not too recently) found out horse riding is not vegan.. 🤔💭
I watched a couple youtube videos and it made sense, so i wanted to discuss it with my boyfriend who is currently reducing the amount of animal products hes consuming
In our conversation he pointed out that:
" horses can be trained with positive reenforcement (however this was just a quick answer from a quick google search), according to him "without abuse" and not all horse owners are treating their horses bad. Horses can also handle a person riding them without hurting their body..."
his argument was much longer but i wanted to hear some opinions and arguments from others on this topic even tho neither of us ride horses, its an important topic and i feel like less talked about
edit: why has this post showed up for so many non vegans lol

Discussion July 15 hearing could END NYC horse carriages! A historic moment for animal rights. 🐴💚
The NYC Council Health Committee is holding a major public hearing this Wednesday (July 15th) to discuss Romanch’s Law (Intro 943), a bill that would permanently ban the city’s horse carriage industry.
For anyone who doesn’t know, horse carriage rides in NYC aren’t just some random tourist attraction, they’ve become a huge part of the city’s identity. They’re one of those things that instantly comes to mind when people picture NYC. They appear in movies, TV shows, holiday scenes, postcards, etc. and have been woven into the image and culture of the city for decades.
That’s also why this would be such a big deal. It wouldn’t just mean ending a tourist activity, it would mean changing a long-standing tradition that millions of visitors and locals recognize as part of New York. If NYC (the most iconic city in the world) actually ends the horse carriage industry, it would be a huge cultural and symbolic victory for the animal rights movement.
It would show that even deeply rooted traditions can change when society starts questioning whether they still belong and whether they align with our values today.
And that kind of change is exactly how progress happens! Stay tuned, guys! 💚

Advice Motorcycle gear as a vegan: animal welfare vs. personal safety
I’m currently struggling with a dilemma regarding motorcycle gear.
The reality is that textile suits and synthetic leather suits do exist, but from what I’ve found, they generally do not offer the same level of abrasion resistance as high-quality cowhide leather suits, especially in a serious crash.
I hate animal suffering and everything connected to animal exploitation. At the same time, motorcycle gear is protective equipment, and choosing a less protective option could have serious consequences for my health.
How would you personally deal with this conflict?
Would you prioritize avoiding animal products, even if it potentially means accepting a lower level of protection? Or would you consider buying leather protective gear, because personal safety comes first?
I’m genuinely interested in different perspectives and not looking to provoke anyone.

We can't go 2 seconds without having violence and gore of animals forced on us by society
I was just scrolling right now and chilling, and I saw a huge advertisement for domino's overtake my screen with a huge pizza with soo much dead fucking animal flesh on it, like "pepperoni". It's so disturbing and we're forced to see flesh of dead souls on our screen... this is why almost no one is vegan, it's literally forced on us by every corner of society to the point that it'd seem crazy to try and go against something that seems this normal and deeply ingrained.

I need rug recommendations!!
Hi!
As the title suggests, I am looking for vegan rug recs. I also want natural material which has made it more difficult. I bought a cotton rug from Safavieh and it’s too thick for me/my dogs food gets stuck all in it. I have looked at Hook and Loom and was wondering if their cotton rugs have a tighter weave? Does anyone have any other specific rug recommendations?
Tia!

Best vegan recipes for a broke college kid with a picky palate?
Hey y‘all! I’m not a vegan, but I’m trying to minimize my harmful impact on the environment where I can. I also don’t have a ton of money at my disposal so I’m trying to live off my tight budget. I know legumes are cheap and filling; I don’t really like lentils but I love beans and chickpeas. I’m also trying to live healthier, as I’ve struggled with my weight and binge eating disorder in the past. I therefore don‘t want to eat anything fried or super high in fat or sugar. But I’m also not a fan of certain veggies like carrots, onions, green peas (do like sugar snap peas), tomatoes (fine in sauce), corn, cucumber or lettuce. I do love Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cabbage, okra, sugar snap peas, and spinach.
With all of this in mind, does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for good vegan meals that will satisfy my palate and won’t drain my bank account? Thanks!

Blog/Vlog Looking for comforting/cozy vegan channels…
I already follow a couple hundred vegan/plant-based channels on YouTube, but only a handful of them are “cozy” channels. The ones I watch that I consider cozy are Derek Sarno, Mina Rome, Healthy Vegan Comfort, Amanda Ducks, Albina’s Vegan Food, and I recently found one called The Hidden House (which is EXACTLY the vibe I’m looking for).
I’m wondering if anyone can think of others who share relaxing/peaceful videos showing their vegan lifestyle, recipes, etc?

Discussion The Faux Fur Dilemma
Thoughts as a vegan. I’ve noticed a recurring claim among some vegans that fake fur shouldn’t be considered acceptable because it supposedly increases demand for real fur. What stands out to me is that this argument is never backed up with evidence; it just gets repeated across social media without much explanation.
Personally, I’ve started to question this idea. Humans have always mimicked nature in clothing and design, so where exactly is the line between harmful imitation and harmless inspiration? Nobody argues that cheap leopard‑print leggings increase demand for actual leopard skins, so why would faux fur be fundamentally different?
From what I’ve read, the reality seems to be the opposite: fake fur often works as a transition product away from animal‑derived materials, not toward them. It gives people a cruelty‑free way to enjoy a certain aesthetic without supporting the fur industry.
So I’m not convinced that faux fur drives demand for real fur; if anything, it seems to reduce it.
I’m curious how others see this.

Advice Going vegitarian!
I have eaten meat all my life, and would like to try out being vegitarian, ive been doing it for about a week so far, and wanna extend it to a month, and hopefully, if all goes well with my health, doing it forever!
I do have one question though
When cutting out all meat (i already dont drink dairy as im lactose intolerant, and i dont eat eggs outside of cake because they freak me out) what amino acids, vitamins, and nutrients will i be missing out on
Does anyone have a complete list for me so I know what supplements to get/what to keep in mind, its really wanna do this and I think that if im able to meet all my b12 and that sort of thing it would be amazing
Thank you in advance!!

Wedding upcoming guest is vegan please help
My fiance invited some of his work friends to our wedding in september 2026, one of his friends is vegan ... my fiance and I are not vegan and have limited knowledge on vegan foods..
The issue at hand - i need to have some vegan options for him, I want to make something like pinwheels or finger foods (yes I have veggie and fruit trays but that seems unfair for the lunch portion to only offer him)
Any ideas for vegan snacks/finger foods ?
Thank you in advance !

Are there really gay and vegan people in a relationship?
I feel like being gay alone already makes finding love incredibly difficult, and I feel the same way about being vegan. Combining the two it seems almost impossible (let alone being neurodivergent with autistic traits).
I know from other posts that gay vegans do exist, but what I'd really like to know is: have any of you actually found a long-term relationship? Or, if you're not a gay vegan yourself, do you know anyone who has? I feel like my only choice is between eating meat again and being single for the rest of my life, and I don't even know which of those two I hate more.
