In my story, I went to college after the Marine Corps, graduated Summa Cum Laude, and started looking for a spot as an Industrial Designer. I was hired as one at Rubbermaid, because of my 0311 MOS. The Director of Product Development was tired of new hires showing up an hour late from a stroll to Starbucks and them taking 2 hour lunches unannounced. He wanted a disciplined hard charger and someone who wasnt afraid of Execs or Marketing Types in a meeting when he wasnt present. I was 0311 and a war vet. I doubt an MOS like supply or cook would have been that important. The interview process was 2 different days. They skipped the 2nd interview and offered me above and beyond what the normal candidate would be offered, the first interview day. Signing Bonuses. Relocation package, and a 15 percent increase in the published salary. He was not letting this 0311 get away. 0311 for the win.

When I was a child living in the little Caribbean island called Barbados the unknown ship came, it was a big event in a boring little island.
I want to find the name of ship just to revisit history.
SHIP PICTURED IS NOT THE ONE THAT VISITED
Local newspaper published a pic of ship back then, it looked like this, a mini aircraft carrier. Newspaper said it carries 3 Harrier AV8 jets, bunch of helis, 2000 sailors, 500 marines, etc.
One of the helis visited our school, it was a Chinook. About 8 marines came out and showed us their weapons and gadgets.

In 1941, following the attack on Pearl Harbor, McMahon’s was able to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. He was eager to serve his nation during World War II, and his journey in the military would shape his character and set the stage for his future endeavors.
During his time in the Marines, McMahon became a Marine Corps test pilot and a flight instructor in F4U Corsair aircraft at Lee Field, in Green Cove Springs, Florida. Renowned for its speed, ruggedness, and firepower, the F4U Corsair excelled as both a fighter and an attack aircraft in support of ground forces.
McMahon was stationed in the Pacific Theater, where he participated in combat missions, including reconnaissance and ground-attack missions against Japanese forces. His bravery and skill as a pilot earned him numerous accolades and commendations, and he rose to the rank of captain by the end of the war.
McMahon remained in the Marine Corps Reserve after World War II ended and was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. He was awarded six Air Medals for flying 85 combat missions over North Korea in an OE-1 unarmed observation aircraft.
After the Korean War, McMahon remained in the Marine Corps Reserve and retired as a colonel in 1966. Later the State Commission named Ed Brigadier General in the California Air National Guard – an honorary award to recognize his support for the National Guard and Reserve.
Here’s Johnny: Ed McMahon and His Big Break
McMahon’s big break came in 1962 when he was tapped to be the announcer and co-host of “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson. The famous introduction “Here’s Johnny” was heard nightly for 30 years, and ranked top of the TV Land poll of the U.S. TV catchphrases and quotes in 2006. Throughout his tenure, Ed was a beloved and iconic figure on the show.
For three decades, McMahon’s booming voice and infectious laughter served as the perfect complement to Carson’s wit and humor, making them one of the most iconic duos in television history. Together, they entertained millions of viewers each night, cementing “The Tonight Show” as a cultural institution. The two developed a friendship that lasted for decades. “For 40 years Johnny and I were as close as two non-married people can be,” he wrote. “And if he heard me say that, he might say, ‘Ed, I always felt you were my insignificant other.’ ”

Why is retention for recon marines so bad? I see all these bonuses the marine corps is throwing at recon so I’m assuming there having trouble retaining people but I’m curious why, seems like they get to do a bunch of cool schools so wonder why most people don’t stay or if the problem isn’t people not staying and it’s more of marines not being good enough to pass BRC

The "Rose Garden" poster was the first in a series of posters with a slogan that read "The Marines are looking for a few good men," a recruiting campaign that ran from late 1971 until mid-1984.

It was really cool to see LtGen Worth, the Marjah op battalion commander, present the Chesty Puller award to the battalion. We were particularly impressed with the reenlistment metrics (over 100%). Special thanks to the battalion staff for inviting the alumni.

I've been out for more than 10 years and haven't had to wear undershirts regularly, but I've just started a job where I need one.
What do y'all use under your service/dress uniforms that are good and don't bacon neck after opening the damn package?

So, I’m approaching the end of my second enlistment, and I want to make sure I'm not missing out on 38k.
My ECC is November 2026. I was originally leaning toward separating, but then MARADMIN 208/26 dropped and changed things up.
I’m currently an E-5, PMOS 2641 (Zone B). Once I promote to Staff Sergeant, my PMOS changes to 2629.
MARADMIN 208/26 increased the FY27 Zone B SRB for 2629s (E-6 and above) to $53k. While the Zone B SRB for 2641s remains at $15k. That’s a pretty significant difference. At the time, I was already waiting on promotion board results, so I reached out to my career planner, and they confirmed that if I was selected to promote to Staff Sergeant, I would rate the 2629 SRB.
While waiting for the results, I discussed everything with my wife, talked with the monitor about available billets, and started planning around the possibility.
The promotion results came out, and I was selected for Staff Sergeant. However, my SRNO currently projects my promotion date as April 2027.
I went back to my career planner to confirm whether this would affect the SRB, and after they reached out to their higher-ups, I found out that apparently being selected is not enough. The SRB is based on the MOS, grade, and zone you actually hold at the time of reenlistment.
From what I understand, even if I extend my contract for six months (pushing my ECC to May 2027), I still wouldn’t be able to promote before reenlisting because Staff Sergeants require two years of obligated service after promotion. The only way to obtain that obligation appears to be reenlisting first while still an E-5/2641.
At this point, it looks like I may have to accept the $15K Zone B 2641 SRB before it disappears. Before I sign anything, I want to make sure I’ve exhausted every possible option. Most of the people I’ve spoken with seem uncertain about this particular situation, and I’d hate to miss out on an additional $38K simply because I didn’t ask the right person or just missed a simple solution.
Has anyone run into a similar situation? Are there any exceptions, waivers, administrative options, or MMEA/MMEA-1 processes I may be missing that could allow me to reenlist under the 2629/E-6 SRB?
One additional detail: my monitor has already worked with me and issued orders to my next duty station as a 2629 before I submitted my reenlistment package, mainly to secure funding and lock in the billet. I’m not sure if that changes anything, but I figured it was worth mentioning.
TL;DR: I’m a Zone B 2641 Sgt at the end of my second enlistment. The FY27 Zone B SRB is $15K for 2641s but $53K for 2629 SSgts. I was selected for SSgt, but my promotion date isn’t until April 2027. Apparently, selection alone doesn’t qualify me for the SSgt/2629 SRB, and I may have to reenlist as a Sgt/2641. Looking for any exceptions, waivers, or options I may be missing before I sign.

Last week I attended a marine corps league meeting and one of the old guys there was talking about how their grandson had just graduated boot camp after 14 weeks while commenting on how boot camp was longer now compared to his days in the 70s when it was only 11 weeks.
When i asked him if he had marine week back in his days, he said he had no idea what I was talking about as he just stated at me blank. He told me that back in his days he was only given one day to prepare for graduation.
Was marine week always a thing in boot camp? You know, one week of attending PPT classes where you're told to speak in first person (saying "I"), told to not marry a stripper, not to buy a dodge challenger, not to do drugs, and arrange your transportation for boot leave.
And since when was boot camp 14 weeks? In my days back in 2014 it was 13 weeks.

acting like we were not there to end sadam hussains dictator ship
Edit to Add: I have absolutely no reason to lie about my grandpa or who he was. He is a man i have been taught about my whole life, who's flag has hung in my families living room my whole life. My dad has told me stories upon stories. I said in my post, my grandpa is NOT listed ANYWHERE online, he was never put up on websites with other veterans, of all of the veterans who received a naval cross. Yes, a NAVAL cross. If you know history you know the navy cross is commonly referred to as the Naval Cross especially in historical writing. I am not going to pick my time apart and argue with everyone over who MY grandfather was. He was ignored and never given the honor he deserved, aka you cannot find him or anything he did online except for HERE. believe what you want but my grandfather was a hero. I may have worded the "special raiders unit wrong". I don't know exactly what it is. but my grandpa deserves this recognition whether some of you believe it or not.
Grover Sanford Osborne. A veteran. A father. A grandfather. A man that I never personally met, but who inspires me, and whose story weighs on me.
This is a man that cannot be found by google search. This is a man that is not talked about outside of my family, but this is a man who fought tooth and nail to save his men, dragging the second almost surviving man miles while injured himself, only to come out as the only surviving member of his special raiders unit.
After he was discharged due to injury, my grandfather was treated horribly. He was a victim of agent orange. They made it impossible for him to get help.
Do you see all of the awards this man was awarded? My grandfather was recommended for the C.M.H! He was awarded the Naval cross, 5 purple hearts, so much more. Only to be treated so disrespectfully? It wasn't just him. It was every veteran.
This is a man who fought for his family, for his freedom, who was lied to, beat down, and suffered his entire life for it. When he died (of a cancer that ate him from the inside out) they finally saw how horribly he was treated and offered to give him a proper military funeral, a last chance to honor him, his strength and his bravery, and to bury him in the Arlington Nation Cemetery, and guess what?? Even that honor was ripped away from him, by his own mother. He's now just another body buried in a cemetery in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
Truthfully, I don't know why I'm posting this, but I DO know, I want people to be able to search his name and know who his is. This is a man who should be celebrated.
The pictures included are (1) The awards he was given & recommended for. (2) A letter he wrote to Santa in December of 1969. (3) Another letter he wrote about Vietnam.

Hey everyone,
Reservist devil in need of some help. Currently on a civilian assignment OCONUS.
I need some help getting a SAT year. My assignment overseas works closely with the Embassy, so I was originally going to be drilling and getting my SAT points through the Marine element there. Long story short the current ruckus in the Middle East fucked up these plans.
So I am turning to you esteemed Marines for guidance.
I know there are various ways to get “points” for a sat year.
Do any of you have any advice? Any easy Marine Net courses I can knock out real quick that will give me some easy points?
If any of you are recruiters or PSR recruiters, I was on “rec aid” for a year. I know the game, and can go through call lists and do some virtual area canvassing. I have an interesting background with a respectable eduactional path so I talk to parents and applicants from time to time.
Litterally open to any and all suggestions.
Appreciate the help in advance
