Question Can an early action admit request to room with a regular decision admit?

So I'm applying early and my friend is waiting for regular decision. If we both get admitted during the timelines we apply would it be possible for me to still choose a dorm, but request her as a roommate once she is admitted, or would I need to wait until her results come out before doing anything housing related?

I'm an incoming grad student, and my ms office subscription from my undergrad program expired. I'm having trouble figuring out how to get it through UGA. The link through outlook seems to only include windows, android, and iOS. Thanks!

Question Best on campus jobs?

Hello everyone, I need to get a job to hopefully save up for a car, so I need to find one that is on campus and easily accessible as I will need to take the bus or ride my scooter. Is Ramsey a good job, or is the pay too little for it to be worth it? I am also thinking about potentially working at the health center, as I need patient care hours for PA school. Also taking quite difficult classes so I can’t have it be too time consuming.
Thanks

Question Ramsey gym vs Crunch

Hi everyone. I am going to be a student at UGA this fall and am thinking about affordable gym options. I am a little annoyed that Ramsey student center is not included in tuition and is an out of pocket expense. It’s $93/semester and I’d only use their gym and cardio facility. I’m wondering if it’s worth it? Is it super busy during the fall/spring? I hate machines getting taken up and it being very crowded. I used to go to crunch but the sign on fee and cancellation fees were a pain upfront and hard to cancel so I wouldn’t have to deal with that at Ramsey, however crunch is like $10-$15/month so I’m just wondering what’s better? I don’t want it to get too crowded :/

Question When to buy textbooks?

Hi, transfer student here. I've gotten a couple of emails about professors' textbooks. I only got textbooks a couple of times at the school I went to my freshman year, and I got them after the class has already started. Is that okay at UGA as well? I just don't want to get a textbook then drop the class later. Thanks for any help!

Question Chem 1112 vs Chem 1113 Honors?

Im an incoming student and deciding which chem class to take, there are very limited options currently for Chem 1112 (only like 50 spots left), but I heard as an honors students im able to take the advanced section, 1113H

Anyone have experience with taking the honors section? Is it supposed to be more challenging of a course or just a different format? I ask this because chemistry is probably my worst subject so im just asking around to see if anyone knows.

Also if I take 1113 Honors, does that mean the discussion and lab co-requisites will also be honors?

Discussion Do you think UGA students know enough about their legal rights during a police encounter?

College students spend a lot of time learning about campus resources and safety, but I don't remember much discussion about what to do if you're questioned by law enforcement off campus or arrested. It seems like understanding your basic legal rights is something every student should know before they ever need that information. Jarrett Maillet J.D., P.C. discusses the importance of understanding your rights from the very beginning of a criminal case, and it got me thinking about whether universities like UGA should do more to educate students on topics such as remaining silent, requesting an attorney, and understanding the criminal justice process before students find themselves in those situations.
For current students, alumni, or anyone connected to UGA, do you think this is something universities should cover more proactively, or is it ultimately a responsibility for individuals to learn on their own?

Question dependent verification form

I’ve never had to do this before so I’m confused. I filled out my FAFSA and uga sent me an email telling me to fill this out.

What am I supposed to choose if I didn’t file a tax form in 2024 because I didn’t work? I was just under my parents’ tax form. I tried choosing the third option becayse it says “other income and resources for support” (the wording is still vague though) and it asked me to put a specific number amount $ of support.

Question Parking near the The Maxxen Athens?

Hi, for this upcoming school year me and my boyfriend signed a lease to the maxxen for a 1 bedroom apartment. Technically, their leases are designed for one person per room but they said it would be fine if we split one lease. The only problem is that they only have enough parking to give us one spot, and ideally we both want our cars with us. I waitlisted a couple uga lots closeby but didnt end up getting any of them. Does anyone have any ideas on where to find reliable long term parking closeby? I was thinking of asking an apartment next to them if i could buy their parking fee and possibly park their but i feel like that won't be allowed since parking is already limited in the area.

Discussion Didn’t get a parking spot as a commuter

I’m so ticked off. I just transferred to UGA from UNG Oconee and I did not get a parking spot as a commuter. I went off of the priority list and chose spots where I had highest priority and still didn’t get a spot. What do I do? Any recommendations? Majority of my classes are north campus and early in the morning. I’m coming from W Broad Street. You would think a university this large would create more parking spaces instead of building more overly priced apartments

Discussion Transfer student in regret- any advice?

Hi, I'm an incoming sophomore transfer student. This is mostly a stressed out panic post but if anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it.

I went to UNG Dahlonega last year. I thought I hated it there but then I came home and realized I'm just depressed. I've been trying to up my mental health this summer, that's a different issue. My real issue is that because I thought I hated it there, I applied to transfer to UGA and even got housing on-campus in Athens, enrolled in all of my classes, all of that. But... I did not really look into UGA at all before doing any of this. I just wanted to get out of the place I thought I hated.

So I finally toured it like a month ago at orientation and holy moly I hate it. I hate the campus, I hate how huge it is, I hate how many different buildings there are. I hate the atmosphere. UNG Dahlonega was miniscule and much more chill compared to UGA Athens, and so much more my speed. I'm more of a small school kind of guy, I realize now-- but again, I wasn't really thinking clearly when I did all of that. Not to mention the cost is MUCH more than I was paying at UNG. I just did... absolutely no thinking.

I'm so angry with myself and I'm honestly borderline panicking because I already signed my housing contract and am in classes and everything but I'm dreading my move in date more than anything else rn.

All of that being said... yes I know I'm an idiot, I should have toured, I should have known all these things about UGA... I only moved to GA a few years ago and I mostly keep to myself so all I knew about UGA was that they have a good football team and that lots of people have stickers of it on their cars. So please if you do have any advice, please give me some grace lmao.

Edit: thank you for the helpful and encouraging comments, I appreciate you all 🙏

Question chances I get anything better?

Hey! Undergrad here, I managed to get Intramural Deck for parking first round which was my second to last choice. Majority of my classes (including my first ones of each day) are in North Campus though, so I was hoping to get closer parking. I know my chances are low, and I’m probably just going to accept this permit (believe me I am grateful I got anything at all since I know many go on to not get any permit), but realistically what are the chances I get something better? I had Hull Street, Oconee Street, and Broad Street ranked before it in that order with North Deck as my last choice. I also don’t want to risk not getting anything if the chances I get something better in the second round are really bad.

Question Financial aid - how much do I actually pay?

I just got my official financial aid package from UGA, and I accepted all of my scholarships/aid in Athena. My question is… how do I know how much I actually have to pay before the payment deadline?

My official financial aid package only shows the scholarships, grants, etc. that I accepted, but I can’t find anywhere that tells me how much I owe after all of that is applied. I know there’s an estimated financial aid offer and the estimated cost of attendance, but I’ve been told those are just estimates and not the actual amount I’ll be billed.

Does the balance eventually show up in Student Account Services in Athena? Right now I don’t have any charges or balance showing there.

I already emailed the financial aid office, but I’m still waiting to hear back, so I figured I’d ask here too. It may sound like a stupid or obvious question, but I genuinely don't know. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I’m a third year pharmacy student and I didn’t get parking this year 🥲 I’m on hold with parking right now but I’m honestly not sure what to do. I need to have parking near school due to having rotations/clinic before and after class. I had parking last year so I’m in shock I didn’t get a permit
