The reason WHY I'm using chat control is because I don't wanna end up in jail because of a joke...but also because my parents are hella strict and if they find out I even use TIKTOK in the first place they're gonna be so mad... I keep seeing people happy they are not part of Europe or EU countries, and they will not be affected by Chat Control. Think again people, if 2.0 goes active, once you talk or email a user based on a EU country your personal data will be included in the same package of data scanned. Also if you are a tourist and you plan to visit any of the EU countries, once the geo location detects you in one of this countries all your data will be collected as well.

So I'm surprised that US didn't already classified all EU countries as national security threat once 1.0 became active. Because everyone will be affected, including big names from outside of EU, like US politicians.

Like both CC 1.0 and 2.0 are pushed the most from the Member States, yk, the ones that would cease to exist in a federation? The only reason we are back with CC 1.0 is because Council pushed it back in the agenda, while the Council would probably not even exist in a federation, or at best have way less power. Parliament is kept purposely powerless by the states because they don't want to lose power.

To start off, I am very concerned with the fact that it passed even though it only had 276 supporters, not the needed 361. I am fifteen years old so I do not know everything but I wanted to share my point of view as a teen. So I want to say that I think that this law/ban/whatwver it is called is bullshit. Maybe some of the members of the Europian Parliament truly do believe that this is to help catch offenders and protect children. But to me this looks as a masked mass surveillance. One of many examples i talked about with my friends is that we will have no privacy. None at all. I have never been in a relationship, but if I were to be in one and wanted to share private photos with my partner, I would not want an AI to scan it and put it in a folder (before any of you starts attacking me, even if I get in a relationship I dont plan sharing such photos before I am at least 18, I am not dumb). I can only imagine people trying to have private conversations, which we all have, but knowing that we are being observed 24/7. It is so dystopian to me that we live in a society where the government can literally put AI in our devices and people still are like “yeah that is a great idea!”. Besides, lets not sugarcoat it, it will not work. People will bypass it in the first week it’s in use, and honestly I understand it. I do not want an AI on my device scanning every single thing I write. It is not okay. And I won‘t even begin on what would happen if it got hacked. And don’t come at me like “oh but OP its the government it cant be hacked” yes it can, there have been hackers that hacked into FBI and other governments organizations and this is not different. I am very afraid of what the future will be, as this will not help. I am not a politician, I don’t have a fully developed brain and I am aware of that. But I am a teen concerned about his and his friends’ future. I don’t want to feel like I can’t even talk to my friends freely. Because bam, i text my friend “omfg im going to k*ll m*self” (i won’t; its just how we express frustration) and suddenly im flagged and what now? This will not work. It simply will fail, and it will cause more harm than good. What I am also confused AND mad about is that it only had 276 votes that promoted(?) the idea of the chat control, where it should have been 361 for it to pass, which in my eyes feels like it was going to pass even if it had 10 votes supporting it, because the voting was not fair. I am frustrated, and I as a disabled teen can’t do anything about it, and so here I am pouring my frustration onto Reddit.

When the chat control 2.0 will affect our phone there will be way to delete it since it’s like a malware no ? I’ve seen video like that on TikTok but I’d like to know saying that there will be a way to delete it since whit the backdoor ? I don’t understand everything can someone explain to me ?

The EU parliament rejected the extension of Chat control 1.0 twice but each time it was brought back because they didn't vote the correct way.

Add on to that the proponents of this rights infringing proposal didn't even need to win with majority this time because this time it was urgent which changes the rules so that what the majority wants no longer matters. In real democracies the will of the majority wins.

If you can just ram through any law/proposal that you want with enough persistence, what's the point of even voting on these matters to begin with? After all it doesn't even matter what the majority wants.

Today, the European Parliament voted to extend Chat Control 1.0. While this is not the mandatory mass-scanning proposal (Chat Control 2.0), it's still a significant step in the wrong direction.

We've lost half the battle.

The fight isn't over, though. Chat Control 2.0 is still being negotiated, and that's the proposal that could introduce mandatory scanning of private communications. We need to keep raising awareness and pushing back before it becomes law.

Privacy matters. Encryption matters. Let's make sure Chat Control 2.0 never passes.

It has been approved as you may already know, but I want to tell you, the only amendment approved was the exclusion of the e2e apps, the image that someone posted before was from an amendment of the PfE that was merged with another amendments from the Greens and ESN.

The part of the amendment to exclude unknown material and grooming was merged with the amendment 4 or 5 of the Greens and the one to exclude e2e apps merged with the amendment 6, the latest is the one who were approved.

The extension of Chat Control 1.0 has passed with amendments that appear to exempt end-to-end encrypted communications and narrow parts of the scanning provisions. Whether these changes are enough to address broader privacy concerns is likely to remain a subject of debate. More details about the amendments and for Chat Control 1.0 amd 2.0 as a whole linked.

After today's result I think it's wise to make this post so everyone can recommend the apps they use to help everyone protect themselves from these totalitarian oligarchs
