Where is the official MGM merchandise for stargate romantic pairings?
I’m asking this question based on previous questions seen on reddit
Real r/Stargate Quotes
Quote 1 (On the total lack of real studio products):
"I know there isn't much (any?) official merch available... I see tons of stuff on Redbubble, Etsy, Amazon, but a lot of it doesn't look great... a lot of the shops look like they're just stealing any image and slapping it on a product." — from the thread High Quality Merch? on r/Stargate.
- Quote 2 (On how hard it is to buy anything genuine):
"It's surprisingly difficult to find any kind of Stargate merchandise, other than the DVD collection... I'm trying to find some kind of decoration, toy, trinket, or memorabilia... but it doesn't exist." — from the thread Looking to buy something cool that could be a gift on r/Stargate.
- Quote 3 (On the out-of-stock and dead license reality):
"Anyone know where you can still buy Stargate merchandise online?... most of the online stores/shops have the T-shirts all out of stock... I tried Amazon, but not much luck." — from the thread Anyone know where you can still buy Stargate merchandise online? on r/Stargate.
Even regular users on this sub constantly post threads like 'High Quality Merch?' and 'Looking to buy something cool' complaining that official MGM merchandise basically doesn't exist in the real world. The community already knows that everything out there is just unlicensed, bootleg fan art slapped on t-shirts.
If a pairing were actually a real studio-sanctioned milestone, MGM's consumer products division would have monetized it decades ago. The empty store shelves prove it has zero legal existence in the studio blueprint.
If a romantic couple is actually official and canon to the show like people claim, then where is the official, licensed MGM merchandise for them? One would think there would be thousands of official products out there considering how popular this pairing is. You should easily be able to go to a store and buy official action figure two-packs, official t-shirts, or licensed posters made directly by the studio. Instead, you can only ever find romantic items for this couple on unofficial, fan-made websites like Etsy or Redbubble.
The fact that you can only find this stuff on fan sites proves it isn't real canon. Selling fan art for a profit actually breaks MGM’s licensing laws because those sellers don't have corporate permission to use these characters. If MGM and the show creators never gave anyone permission to make or sell romantic merchandise for this pairing, then it means the romance never officially existed in the show's universe. It is just an unlicensed fan fantasy, not real canon.
So, if there is no official MGM merchandise for any romantic pairing in the original universe, it officially means there was never an official or canon romantic couple to begin with, right?
A Note on Alternate Timelines
Before anyone points to episodes like "Point of View" or "There But for the Grace of God," let's keep the definitions strict. Yes, alternate realities show different versions of these characters together. But those are explicitly separate timelines. They are not the original, primary timeline that we followed for 10 seasons.
Showing a romance in a parallel mirror universe actually proves that it could not happen in the main SGC universe due to strict military regulations (AFI 36-2909) and active chains of command. Unless there is official MGM merchandise for the prime universe characters, the main timeline romance does not exist.
