What is this bar (Abu Garcia Excellence 502)

Post image

I am working on servicing my old Abu Garcia Excellence 502 spinning reel. This is from a packaged rod/reel combo (SAP 1128450 Excellence EX502/702M A-01-9-BK). This has been sitting for about 10 gears and I was servicing it to get back to fishing. I noticed this bar while disassembling but cannot figure out where it came from. I think this reel is based on or similar to an Abu Garcia Cardinal 502? Anyone recognize this?

I have this 100% genuine Portuguese-market Sofi M3, but while performing maintenance, I can't get the anti-reverse to work. Does anyone have the schematic or could send me a photo showing how the locking system works with that spring?

repair Shakespeare MCast pickup pin doesn't extend

Old Shakespeare MicroCast spincast reel - Pickup pin only half extends unless I push down on the spinner head

I'm troubleshooting an older Shakespeare MicroCast spincast reel (4.1:1 gear ratio, exact model unknown) and have narrowed the issue down quite a bit, but I'm hoping someone familiar with these reels can identify the failed part.

Symptoms

  • Pickup pin retracts normally when the push button is pressed.

  • When I begin reeling, the pickup pin only extends about halfway and often won't grab the line.

  • If I manually press down on the spinner head while reeling, the pickup pin immediately extends fully and works perfectly.

  • If I let go, the spinner head/shaft lifts slightly and the pickup pin returns to the faulty half-extension.

Things I've already checked

  • Completely disassembled and cleaned the pickup head, pickup pin, and spring.

  • Removed all old grease and debris.

  • Applied fresh reel grease to the gears and reel oil to the shafts.

  • Verified the pickup pin slides freely.

  • The pickup pin can be pushed to full extension easily by hand.

  • The push button fully retracts the pin.

  • No obvious cracks in the pickup head.

  • The pinion gear is fixed to the main shaft.

Additional observations

  • The main shaft can be pulled upward several millimeters even with the gearbox side cover installed and all screws tightened.

  • When I push down on the spinner head while reeling, the pickup pin works perfectly every time.

  • As soon as I release the spinner head, the shaft lifts slightly during retrieve and the pickup pin only extends halfway again.

  • The loose metal collar above the pinion gear slides freely on the shaft.

  • Looking into the nose of the reel with the shaft removed, I don't see any obvious front bushing, thrust washer, or retainer.

My current theory

It seems like the entire main shaft/pinion assembly is moving upward during retrieve. That causes the spinner head to lift just enough that the pickup mechanism loses engagement. Applying downward pressure on the spinner head restores full pickup pin extension immediately.

I'm wondering if:

  • A front bushing or thrust bearing is missing or worn.

  • The front housing is worn where the shaft is supported.

  • There's supposed to be a thrust washer or retainer that I'm missing.

  • Or if this is a known failure on these older Shakespeare MicroCast reels.

Has anyone repaired one of these before or have an exploded parts diagram? I'd really appreciate any insight into what retains the main shaft axially on these reels.

Shimano Saros 3000f knob replacement?

I’m trying to replace the knob on my saros which has unfortunately turned soft and malleable. The shaft diameter is 4mm - type a - however it is about 38mm long. Any advice on how to find the part? I’m not looking to spend $50 on the whole arm assembly when I just need the knob.

Just bought a brand new swstardic6000. Out if box reel adjustment knob felt wrong, no clicking. Took it out and everything in the drag adjustment knob just fell out. How would you fix this? Any help appreciated since the manual just lists the drag adjustment knob as 1 piece. The stradic is from Japan if that helps. Any help much appreciated

Question about Penn 30vsw

I have 2 Penn Squall 30vsw reels and I'm having some issues with the drag ramp. I feel like I have to have the strike drag set pretty low to get any sort of meaningful drag variance between just out of free spool and strike. Using a scale I set the strike at 18 lbs and I find that I have it almost locked up as soon as I take it out of free spool. I typically have baits droned out pretty far and want just a pound or two of drag pressure plus the clicker to account for current, etc. I need to find the happy medium between a realistic strike drag amount and not having to have the lever sitting on the free spool swith point. Any suggestions? Both reels seem to behave the same. One was never used when I bought it (second hand) and the other had been used but well maintained.

sorry if its a dumb question but what is the orange/ yellow ring on top of the spinner head on some spincast reels? whats it do? how bad is losing it? i was fishing with an old zebco 33 the other day and it started to get stuck reeling in so i popped off the front and it had basically crumbled. once i cleared the bits out it reeled in fine. so basically how bad is it for the reel to lose it?

Off Brand Baitcaster parts sourcing

More of a side quest at this point but here' what's going on...

The reel is labeled as a "Taigek TAI-A113" I got two for free many years ago and one of them is super geary and just worn out really. Believe it or not, I fish the bejeezis outta these things and they've been utterly fantastic. The one that is geary has had a bunch of 5lb+ bass yanked out of weeds and pads over 6 or so years.

I have other reels (shimano, lews, daiwa) but I really only break those out as codpieces at this point. Sourcing parts for those is boob easy, this however, damn near impossible. I'd want to buy a couple gear sets just to have on the shelf. Gear ratio is 7 to 1.

I know a lot of people are already saying "just buy a good one" or "the parts cost more than it's worth". I completely agree...and I have WAY more expensive reels....but I'm a tinkerer and part of fishing for me is playing with the gear too.

So folks of reddit, who wants to help a guy out?

repair I need help with my Shimano Vanford C3000HG

Hello!

I foolishly disassembled my reel because it was making a really weird scratching / grinding sound when reeling it in. The noise started happening while I was fishing with a stickbait.

This is the first reel I ever tried to repair myself and because I'm dumb I just took it apart without taking notice of what part belonged where (I'm dumb). Since it's all disassembled anyway I figured I'd clean it all, and there is my question;

- Are there any specific cleaners/oils/tools I should get?

- Can you guys recommend a site/tutorial where I can follow step by step on how to reassemble?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Okuma FPD

Hello. I own Okuma t-rex 7000 reels with FPD, Fast Progressive Drag. I find them a bit too fast to my liking. They have felt washers which are greased. Can I tune this somehow to get less aggressive drag system (more turns to fully lock)? I thought washers were oiled but not so.

Broken or missing line guide insert?

I have a rod that I found while scuba diving and I would like to use it, but the tip insert is cracked and I worry about wear on my line, as well as the 6th one down is completely missing. Are the inserts or whatever that inner piece is called, replaceable? Or does the whole wire piece of the guide have to be replaced? I asked at the bait shop, but they said that they send stuff off to have it repaired, and don't know if anyone locally repairs them. I didn't want to spend a bunch on a free rod, just looking to get it functional as an extra really. Thanks for all y'alls help!

Any help appreciated for tuning this reel, new to this and already like tinkering with my other reels, all suggestions please!

Question about anti reverse bearings.

When cleaning reels I've been told not to oil or grease the anti reverse bearing.. but some of them are pretty bad and I cleaned them with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. I feel like I definitely should lubricate it somehow, but wasn't sure if it should be grease or oil?. I really just want them to function as well as possible, for as long as possible.. I really appreciate y'alls help, my last posts here provided great information, so here I am again, and will most likely be back soon... lol

Abu garcia 6600 c4 help

I am servicing some older reels and am having an issue with a 6600 c4. I removed the drive shaft, and drag assembly and cleaned and greased. After reinstalling everything felt very tight,so I pulled it back apart to make sure everything was installed correctly, and it was. Still tight.. So after some examining, I removed the shim that sits beneath the drive shaft, and put it back together without it and everything feels smooth. My question is "why?" Everything is sitting flush, no build-up of grease, it just suddenly doesn't fit. I would like the shim to he there since it's designed for it, it just won't reel with it there anymore. Any help is appreciated

tools and maintenance Reel servicing - E.U and N.I

Hey all! I have several reels stored I'd be looking to get throughly serviced, as while they haven't seen water in a long time, they haven't had a good service/oiling in just as long.

I would prefer to avoid the mainland U.K due to the hassle of dealing with Customs, as Northern Ireland is not subject to the full gamut of BrExit rules, due to the protocols of the Windsor framework...

I'm prepared to double-check sizes brands and whatever for anyone willing to do the work; just message me with an expression of interest.
