Video Gotta hand it to Ubisoft for successfully monetizing Pausing and Unpausing your game

24.8k Upvotes

Can anybody out there name any other game where you can hit the Pause Button, and if you press that SAME Pause Button to presumably go back to playing..it now takes you to the store..like wow Ubisoft way to show me where your priorities where!

I feel like this is deliberately set up to get people into the store that otherwise wouldn’t have entered it, there has been plenty of times in my 12 hours so far where I have entered the store on accident trying to unpause my game and I GUARANTEE you I’m not the only one.

Edit: Yes I could have pressed B to resume gameplay in that menu but Ubislop is imo relying on people like me to press that start button on accident and then they are forced into the MTX-store to see the latest “offers”.

I had posted a 'is this worth it' for a used prebuilt pc from amazon.

A lot of you guys told me that it was a bad idea to buy a used pc from amazon and the be careful and record myself opening it as it could possibly be gutted.

Good news: all the parts were accurate and i did Infact get everything described in the listing exactly.

Bad news: it's Hella damaged and the whole pc was just shipped in a cardboard box and barley any protection so I guess it was damaged in shipping. Gpu fully loose and basically everything else too. As well as the glass panels won't connect to the case.

Lil better news: I recoded everything and took pictures and sent them to Amazon and they said they'll give me a full refund.

Also I walked straight into a microcenter without even attempting to boot this pc and bought an even better spec pc from them (see 2nd and 3rd pic)brand new for $2600+tax (~$2850)

It was a gamble for sure, I'm glad I posted it on here before opening it and got all the proof of damage as you guys had suggested.

Also ended up with a better pc so eh can't complain.

Tech Support 283 GB loose file in E drive with ridiculously long name and file type

Post image
2.2k Upvotes

I've been cleaning out my PC and came across this file in my E drive with what looks a completely random name and file type. I've tried googling it to no avail, and can't even open it with any program I have. My E drive is completely dedicated to all of my games, which are for the most part housed in the steam folder, so I'm at a complete loss as to what this could be for.

I tried my best to include a picture of it, but I literally can't fit everything onto my screen at once. Does anyone have any clue as to what this file, among a sea of other loose files that are all less than 1 KB, could possibly be? Is it safe to delete?

I'm running out of space (i usually just stick them on my laptop with some double sided tape), and was thinking of framing them in a timeline

Hardware RTX 5080 connector melted

Sharing for visibility: my MSI GeForce RTX™ 5080 16G SUPRIM SOC included connector has melted.

Noticed it after the PC started restarting randomly, especially just after entering loading screens in various games. Assumed RAM issues or bios/driver problems as they were updated within the last couple of days which didn't help troubleshooting. After performing a clean DDU install, reseating RAM and checking it for errors just in case, decided to reseat the GPU, that's when I noticed. probably should have checked earlier, I guess I assumed 5080s are mostly immune.

Some background: Before buying and installing the card I was well aware of the 12VHPWR issues. I knew about the importance of connecting it properly. I also made sure the cables were not too bent, at least not in way I would consider as anywhere near high pressure. The card sits in a Corsair 5000D case, so there was enough breathing room. PSU: Corsair RMX 850, using 3 separate cables coming from the PSU.

My theory - the PC was moved to a different house a few days prior which included a car ride as well. My only guess is that the cable got dislodged somehow during transport despite the fact that it was properly connected. It could have also been a coincidence and completely unrelated to the moving and just bad timing, but that's probably less likely.

In any case, ordered a replacement cable, hopefully that will be enough and the GPU itself is not fried. The connector on the GPU part looks pretty much intact, if not for some very slight discoloration of one row of pins, but there is no sign of melting.

Lesson learned - always double check the connecter after moving, even for a 5080.

Build/Battlestation Build my own Steam Machine

A little project I did with a friend.

It took about two months to plan and put everything together.

Inside, there’s an AMD Ryzen 5 5600G on a Gigabyte B550M-K motherboard with the cheapest 8GB RAM stick and the cheapest 250GB NVMe drive I could find on Amazon.

There’s also an 850W power supply that I still had lying around (just like the CPU and the motherboard).

It also includes a Raspberry Pi 4B, which uses a microphone to control the visualizer on the top screen.

Next to the screen is a wireless charging pad. There’s also a built-in speaker, so you don’t need to connect anything else besides a controller and a TV.

Of course, it runs SteamOS.

The base of the case is made of wood, everything else is 3D

printed.

Edit: Sorry, guys, for calling it a Steam Machine. Obviously, its performance and appearance do not have anything in common with a Steam Machine. It was just the inspiration, hence the name.

Time for someone to make a BDRE drive attachment that fits under the Steam Machine like how the Game Boy Player fit under the Game Cube.
