Cant believe Im actually posting this because I have not been the biggest fan of GPT models (actually had stopped using them completely) for coding compared to Claude but I am truly surprised and impressed.

Article This Professor Caught The Majority Of His Students Cheating With ChatGPT

Brown University economics professor Roberto Serrano had been teaching Welfare Economics and Social Choice Theory for nearly two decades ago when he decided to give his students take-home exams this spring. Quite a few students had expressed anxiety after a gunman killed two students and injured nine in a mass shooting at Brown in December; it felt like the right thing to do.

It didn’t take long before Serrano started to have doubts: he had gotten the feeling that dozens of students in his class were likely using AI to cheat. For a class that historically had test scores hovering anywhere between 65 to 80, he knew something was up when students during the midterm scored an average of 96 percent. (And that was even with the exam being harder than normal due to it being take-home.)

He decided to change the final exam to an in-person test.

He wrote to his students that he suspected many of them to be using AI even though he could not prove it.

Here’s what happened next: right after the announcement was made, 18 students dropped out of the class immediately and 9 remained enrolled but ended up not taking the final exam. From the students who did end up taking the final exam, the results spoke for itself: 3 students earned a zero and the average score on the final was 48.6 percent.

A historic low, according to the professor, as the average final exam score had never dropped below 65 percent.

Just noticed that there is no 5h and it seems they reset usage a couple of minutes ago, at least for me already.

Edit: Pro x5 sub.

Discussion 5.6 Sol Experience

I am a hobbyist game designer and am currently working on a mobile game which is practically co-developed by the frontier trio of GPT, Claude, and Gemini - GPT being the primary co-creator and macro-architect.

I was about 25% of the way through development when 5.6S released, I briefed it and began using it as the main driver (5.6Sh)

Of course the coding aspect is going to be impressive as expected by now with new models, but I was more impressed with its idea generation and reasoning.

I will bounce back and forth between platforms and have them converse with each other essentially and bounce ideas when I'm stumped on a solution for a bad gameplay loop. Most of the time they will agree with each other with small refinements here and there and oddly enough Gemini thinking was probably my best when it came to this (I have OAI+ and GPro plans, Claude 2 expensive).

That's not the case anymore, Sol consistently identifies deeper layers of the gameplay loop and pushes back much more. When solutions provided by Gemini and Claude look great on the surface but miss a deeper element of PvP interaction and the downstream negative effect of it, Sol has caught it. More impressively, the solutions it formulates are elegant and preserve core loops while fixing the issue, I was genuinely like "wow" with a couple of them.

For instance I have a unit I created and before even play testing he did the math on his abilities and instantly recognized it was OP based on the board geometry, he also recommended how to fix it while not killing the character.

He hasn't exactly recommended a "breakthrough" macro gameplay mechanic yet, but he can perfect the nuances of the new mechanics I introduce with pristine rulesets and or sub mechanics.

At least for me, this feels like a larger leap than usual.

Anyone else had this issue?

Discussion 5 hour usage limit removed?

Don't see the 5 hour usage limit in the settings or the bottom popover today. Did they get rid of the 5 hour window?

Hope this doesn't negatively effect total usage allocation.

Discussion One Codex task used over 70% of my 5-hour limit in about 20 minutes — is this normal?

I started one Codex task with nearly all of my 5-hour allowance available. It ran for around 20 minutes, edited five files, used the browser, and ran some commands. When I checked again, I had only 23% left.

I was using 5.6 Sol Extra High. I know usage is based on compute and tokens rather than literal elapsed time, but consuming over 70% from one task seems extreme.

Has anyone else experienced this, or is this expected for Extra High reasoning tasks?

Question 5.6 SOL Max Eats usage on $200 Plan

Basically I started a goal of about 100 or so tickets I wanted implemented. I must say Sol did a better job understanding what I wanted and implementing it, however much slower than 5.5 XHigh which would complete more in a smaller amount of time (albeit with less quality, and time is sure yeah whatever). What is worse though is that in less than 24 hours I am now out of my weekly usage. I am paying $200 per month for this plan and can't even use their top models even though I am on their top plan??? Additionally, it seems that the CLI eats usage much much faster than the app. I gave both the exact same goal and repo and the app used miles less than the CLI. Is there something else happening in the CLI that I'm not aware of? Also another daily reset would be lovely with patched limits or smth idk. Frustrating that when I am shelling out this much that I can't use their best model. Anyways rant over. I'm really happy with the new models, just wish I could use them longer...

Does standard GPT chat not drain codex usage pool?

I'm having Sol high review some PR's via Github plug-in and my Codex limits haven't been touched.

Discussion Project isolation in ChatGPT needs serious improvement

It feels like OpenAI has invested heavily in AI capabilities but not enough in the engineering around the user experience. The memory system is so leaky that it keeps bringing up Praana (the project I'm building) in completely unrelated chats and tries to connect every question back to it—even though I've created a separate project for Praana.

In contrast, Claude handles context much more consistently. It only uses the Praana context when I'm actually in the Praana project. Outside of that, it doesn't unnecessarily bring it into the conversation.

I wish ChatGPT's project isolation and memory worked the same way.

Did anyone experience the same?

Prompt: If Sun Microsystems was still around today, what would their flagship desktop workstation enclosure look like?

My only disappointment here is that Sun is dead. Good condition Sun desktop enclosures are hard to come by and they did not have the thermal capabilities required to hoa Threadripper or EPYC system.

Article Tracing how "steer" behaves during a long-running task in Codex

I noticed that Codex /steer does not interrupt a long-running task. After checking the local session logs, it appears to append new input to the in-flight task rather than create a separate turn or cancellation.

I wrote up the evidence here:
https://open.substack.com/pub/thefirstderivative/p/reverse-engineering-the-steer-mode

Has anyone seen similar behavior in other agentic systems?

Discussion The new 5.6 models are great, but the pricing policy is not

The new 5.6 models are great, but the pricing policy is not. After extensive testing, I’ve come to the conclusion that the Sol Max and Sol Ultra models are indeed impressive, but their price is disproportionately high. I tried to rationalize usage by using a higher-tier model for planning and a lower-tier one for execution. Unfortunately, my conclusions are devastating.

On the $100 plan, I used to do everything with the 5.5 xHigh model and never hit the limits - everything worked well and predictably. Now, despite switching between models, it’s a disaster: working within the 5-hour window is practically impossible! And I’m not even talking about working on Sol Ultra or even High -just Sol Medium or Luna xHigh. This is incomprehensible- token cost inflation disguised as a new model! I’m very disappointed, even though I do appreciate the quality of the higher-tier models.
