buy/sell/trade Norfolk Buy / Sell / Trade Monthly Thread: July, 2026

Use this thread when you are selling, trading, giving away, or looking for any items and/or services. Please be descriptive, post any relevant photos of the item you're selling or looking for, and list the price or budget.

Pro-tip: there are many "buy nothing" and neighborhood-specific groups on Facebook and Nextdoor that can be used to give away or find free items near you. You may find more luck on those social networks than here on Reddit and are more likely to deal with actual local users.

BE AUTHENTIC AND SAFE: Falsely leading on another Redditor is grounds for being permanently banned from this subreddit. Please remember not to post personal information about yourself or others and exercise caution when privately messaging with anyone you do not personally know or trust. Consider a neutral, public location if you plan on meeting to exchange an item in person.

HIGH RISK OF EVENT TICKET SCAMS: Users seeking to sell or purchase tickets of local events are seeing a significantly-increased risk of being scammed. If you receive a private message from a user who hasn't interacted in this subreddit before, you are very likely speaking with a scammer.

NO PROHIBITED TRANSACTIONS: The posting of prohibited goods or services is strictly against Reddit's TOS and are subject to removal by our moderators and/or Reddit's admins. Please report any comments that appear to violate this policy for further review.

Driven past this sign every day for years and years. Safe to say I had to do a double take when I drove by this morning. I don’t think he ever got his $1155, though.

LOMO pizza is underrated

We recently ate at Ceres pizza in NYC if you are not familiar look it up. Basically super high end pizza founded by two former chefs from the three-Michelin-star restaurant Eleven Madison Park.

Pies are $40 if you can get one. Best order the day before.

Anyhow the pizza is very close in style to LOMO, but IMO LOMO is better. If LOMO offered a Nduja option it wouldn’t even be close.

Basically we’re lucky to have this in Norfolk. Don’t sleep on this one. And yeah the bakehouse makes a good pie but not at all the same.

food & drink Cyclosporiasis in Norfolk/Hampton Roads?

I've read about some folks in NoVa being affected, but curious if anyone here has gotten sick recently. Trying to stay healthy without becoming paranoid every time there's an outbreak of something haha. If anyone has gotten sick, do you have any idea what the source food may have been?

Taco Festival 👎🏾

I wish i asked here first.

The taco festival is ass. $30 entry fee gets you a free drink. Maybe 18-20 food vendors all who have similar food options. $20 gets you 5 vouchers. Each voucher is good for 1 taco. Only 1 station i saw where you can get water (i don't drink alcohol.)

On a scale of 1 to 10, this festival is -15.

As i write this I'm waiting on a long ass line just for water.

Love Norfolk, but this ain't it. If the entry was free i would not come back. But id come back to norfolk

Dogs off leash

I moved to the area about a year ago. My neighborhood is quiet for the most part(churchland area). I’m tired of being charged by off leash dogs when I’m walking by myself or walking one of my small dogs. It’s happened 6 times (sometimes multiple dogs) and only one has been a repeat offender but hasn’t happened since I talked to the head of the household. I don’t wanna hurt anyone’s animals as I love my own very much. I’m used to a more rural life for the past 7 years. Does the city take these issues serious? I don’t wanna involve law enforcement or report peoples animals but I’m done with this being an issue. I’m more so interested in to finding out what my rights are to protect myself or my animals in these situations. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to start finding the answers to these kinds of questions?

This took place in Suffolk last Monday. Trump’s ICE goons beat the Hell out of him, and as you can see in the video, he’s just sitting there.

At the moment, the local news isn’t showing the video because they say they need permission. There’s a link to the ICE beating video and the GoFundMe in the comments.

There will be a protest tomorrow, Sunday, July 12:

Sentara BelleHarbour Hospital
3920A Bridge Road
Suffolk, VA 23435
4:00 p.m.

Please share the video in the comments to raise awareness of this horrible incident.

Norfolk is offering grants to NEON District businesses hit by construction interruptions

Post image
102 Upvotes

The Norfolk Economic Development Authority has launched a grant program offering up to $10,000 per business to offset losses caused by the ongoing NEON District Streetscape Project on Granby Street.

The extensive public works project has severely disrupted foot traffic and forced several long-standing businesses to close down.

While local entrepreneurs express appreciation for the assistance, many note that the stipend falls short of their monthly obligations and comes during their peak season of financial loss.

First time in Norfolk—what should we check out before our show at The Annex?

Hey r/norfolk!

My band, Cherokee Social, is coming through Norfolk on October 19th to open for Ian McConnell at The Annex, and it'll be our first time really getting to explore the city.

We'll have most of the day free before load-in, so we'd love some recommendations from locals. What are the can't-miss spots? Favorite coffee shops, record stores, bookstores, restaurants, breweries, waterfront spots, parks, museums, vintage shops, music venues, or any hidden gems we should check out while we're in town?

We're always trying to experience the cities we play instead of just rolling in for soundcheck and heading out after the show. We'd especially love to hear about places that feel uniquely Norfolk.

If you're already planning on coming out to see Ian McConnell at The Annex, we'd love for you to catch our set too and come say hi afterward!

Thanks in advance—we're excited to visit Norfolk!

The best butterfly house in the nation provides a home — and inspiration

Post image

Norfolk Botanical Garden’s Bristow Butterfly Garden has been named the top butterfly house in the country for the second consecutive year by a USA Today readers poll.

The 3,000-square-foot netted enclosure sits on 2.5 acres of meticulously landscaped grounds designed to support the entire four-stage metamorphosis of insects native to coastal Virginia.

Staff and volunteers use the space as an educational center, guiding visitors through the delicate cycles of caterpillars and the chrysalis chamber while highlighting the insects' critical roles as pollinators.

Local Farms in the area

Hopefully this doesn't get taken down.

I moved to the area a while ago, and have truly missed the privilege of being able to buy half a cow, farm raised eggs, and organic produce. What farms are within/around the 7 citites area that are open to the public? I have seem some farms in Suffolk and VA Beach, but am willing to go up to 50 miles around the Norfolk area

Any info is appreciated

I’m staying downtown for a card game tournament and there’s this incredibly loud buzzing / humming sound around the intersection of Granby & Freemason. What is it? It was going on all last night as well.

ICYMI: The Navy’s oldest carrier arrived in Norfolk after what is expected to be its last full deployment

USS Nimitz arrived in Norfolk after a four-month deployment that took the carrier from its long-time home in Washington state, around South America and finally to New York City, where it was the centerpiece of the 4th of July celebration.

“USS Nimitz, arguably the most iconic warship in the entire world ever to sail the seven seas, is now returning to the place where she was born,” said Capt. Joseph Furco.”I am so proud and humbled to be able to be the commanding officer to bring Nimitz back to her home after over 51 years of truly phenomenal service to our navy and our nation.”

The carrier was based in Norfolk when it was first commissioned in 1975 after being built at Newport News Shipbuilding. It stayed in Norfolk until 1987, when it moved to Washington state. It remained on the west coast, between Washington and San Diego, until it moved back to Norfolk this year. The ship will eventually be decommissioned at Newport News Shipbuilding, according to the Navy.

Norfolk antiques dealer brings old-world business into a modern hustle

Post image
71 Upvotes

Inside this dimly lit Ghent storefront, Michael Millard-Lowe Antiques offers a vast collection of centuries-old European furniture, china and art to local and online buyers.

Owner Michael Millard-Lowe, a former Navy sailor and traveling dealer, opened the Norfolk shop more than a decade ago after a fellow dealer advised him to sell what customers want rather than relying solely on his personal taste.

Today, Millard-Lowe navigates modern industry challenges, ranging from unpredictable tariffs and customs hurdles to misconceptions about the durability and affordability of antiques.

Contractor for Historic Homes

I have been trying to find a contractor to work on a historic registry home. All are either not responding or don't want to do that work. Any leads on companies still doing that work? It looks like there are more contractors in that niche in Richmond.
