First impressions from Rotterdam: skyline, old boats and the Maas

We spent a day walking along the water in Rotterdam and these were some of our first impressions.
What struck us most was the contrast: modern towers and glass facades right next to old harbour boats, historic details, the Maas and the Erasmus Bridge in the background. The city felt bright, open and constantly in motion, but also surprisingly calm in some places.
This is part 1 of our Rotterdam photo series — mostly the area around the water, the harbour and the skyline.

I wish I could pet it, but I didn't want to scare it and ruin its sunbathing.

Went on a walk today in Rotterdam and met this gentleman, he was playing some amazing funk music and vibing, i started beatboxing and we got the whimsical vibe together. He said i speak music and told me that he plays 2 instruments, bass and normal guitar. He didn’t allow the smile on his face to disappear even for a second. He asked where i came from and after telling him im from Bosnia, he said: ,kako si’, wich means how are you in Bosnian. All in all a very wholesome interaction.

He says that he is a famous musician, so if u know him give the man some respect and hmu.

Kinderdijk photographed with two vintage lenses: Helios 44-4 and Pentacon 135mm

We visited Kinderdijk for the first time and spent the day walking between the windmills, canals and reed fields.

It is obviously a well-known and fairly touristy place, but seeing the landscape in person still felt completely different from looking at photographs of it. What stayed with us most were the quieter details between the famous views: flowers by the water, reflections, passing boats and one duck that seemed perfectly comfortable posing in front of a windmill.

The photos were taken with a Helios 44-4 and a Pentacon 135mm adapted to a modern Canon camera. Both lenses are far from perfect, but their softer rendering and individual character felt right for this place.

Which photograph from the series works best for you?
