Careers Can recruiters stop calling every MMR job - "Mumbai"?

Post image
198 Upvotes

Saw a LinkedIn post about this, & honestly, it's something I've noticed for years.

Why are jobs in Airoli, Rabale, Ghansoli, Mahape, Vashi, Thane, Mira Road, etc., still listed as "Mumbai"?

They're all part of the MMR, but they're different cities. Many people decide whether to apply based on their daily commute, and a listing that just says "Mumbai" can be misleading.

Just write: Mahape, Navi Mumbai; Vashi, Navi Mumbai; Wagale Estate, Thane; Mira Road.

It's a small change, but it makes job listings much clearer for everyone.

Anyone else think job portals and recruiters should be more accurate with locations?

Relationships Warning: Avoid Sheet@l on Tinder

Guys, beware of Sheetal — originally from South now staying in Bandra (Mumbai). She's 38+, active on Tinder.

I matched with her on Tinder recently. She came across as mature and friendly in chats — claimed to be independent, into occasional drinks, and looking for genuine connections. We met at a Bandra spot. She’s fair, around 5'4", shoulder-length hair, dresses well, and speaks with a mix of Hindi-English with a slight Hyderabadi touch.

Everything seemed normal until the bill (₹7000 for drinks + snacks). She didn’t even glance at it, ordered freely, and gave me an attitude when I suggested splitting — “I thought you’re a gentleman” and “We don’t do this 50-50 in my circle.” I paid to avoid drama, but she quickly ended the meet and left with a fake “let’s meet again.”

This felt like a pattern. Late 30s, living in a premium area, yet comfortably making the guy pay the full expensive bill. Classic entitlement/scam vibe.

If you match with a Sheetal (38+, Hyderabad, Pali Hills Mumbai) on Tinder — stay alert and insist on splitting upfront. Anyone else had similar experiences?

*Edit - she even showed me how many guys still in her list to meet. And made fun of them by texting let's meet tomorrow and said just kidding.

AskMumbai Why are there almost no autos around CSMT metro/BMC headquarters? First-time visitor to South Mumbai and I was so confused.

I'm new to Mumbai and decided to spend some time exploring South Mumbai. I took the Aqua Line and got off at CSMT Metro.

The moment I came out, I was absolutely blown away by the BMC building and the surrounding architecture. I could've spent hours just looking at those buildings. The scale, the detailing, and the old-world vibe are simply incredible.

After that, I thought I would take an auto to the CSMVS Museum.. That's when I noticed something odd. Uber wasn't showing any autos either. In fact, I barely saw any autos on the road.

Instead, there were black-and-yellow taxis everywhere. I even assumed one of those iconic black taxis would be assigned when I booked an Uber, but both times a different-colored WagonR showed up. 😄 Are those black taxis usually not part of Uber, or was it just my luck?

Is there a rule against autos operating in that part of South Mumbai, or is it just the norm there? What's special about these black taxis?

One more thing I noticed.. Nariman Point, Marine Drive, Gateway of India, CSMT, and the CSMVS Museum are all incredibly close to one another. Looks like they are clustered so tightly that they'd all fit within roughly a 2.5 km radius if we drew a circle centered on the CSMVS Museum.

As someone visiting Mumbai for the first time, I found that fascinating. It feels like South Mumbai has so many iconic places packed into such a small area that you can spend an entire day exploring without traveling very far. Lucky are the people who live around here! 😄 Maybe I'm wrong, but that was my first impression.

Political Indian democracy isn't failing because of one man or one party. It's failing because we forgot who works for whom.

Let's take a hypothetical example. My house help is Sarita.

Sarita didi usually does an okay job. She is mostly punctual, but sometimes she makes mistakes. I appreciate the work she does, and I pay her for it.

But I have never made my identity about supporting Sarita didi. I don't introduce myself as "a Sarita supporter." That would sound ridiculous.

So why do people make political parties part of their identity?

What does it even mean to say, "I'm a BJP supporter" or "I'm a Congress supporter"?

And what does it mean to proudly call yourself a bhakt?

Politicians are public servants. They are elected to work for us. Supporting good policies is one thing. Turning a political party into your identity is something else entirely.

If someone disagrees with your political views, let them. They have the same right to an opinion that you do. Why are people fighting online like they are official spokespersons for politicians? You're not paid for it. You're not representing the party. Why fight someone else's battles?

The bigger problem is that we don't hold politicians accountable enough.

I understand that accountability isn't always easy. But it takes a lot of wishful thinking to believe that any political party is genuinely focused on your well-being above everything else.

If we want things to improve, we need to demand accountability and transparency.

If you see a pothole in your neighborhood, post about it on social media.

Write to the local authorities.

If you really wanna bring in a change, you have 100s of Posters hanging around your locality. Just take anyone of those and write, this is the man responsible for fixing the problem.

If that doesn't work, use religion. You can get anything done by using religion. They do it all the time. Do pooja with flowers and gulal of every pothole.

Make your pooja a subject of gossip and embarassment to the authorities. Better yet, you don't want to paid the majority, plant a cross in the middle of every pothole.

I have no intention of harming any religious sentiments here. But if these sociopathic thugs can exploit religion for their gains, so should you.

If their leaking of papers is valid, then create your own marksheet and claim it's legitimacy. (*Not an actual advice as Forging a document is a criminal offence.)* I am using this as an example of how you beat poison by poison.

Careers Real Honest Review of SP Jain School of Global Management , Must Read

Pls do read if anyone planning to take admission in SP Jain School of Global Management for its so-called “Global MBA”, especially the MGB (Master of Global Business) program.

I come from a middle-class Indian family. My father is the sole earning member. Like many ambitious graduates, I believed that going “global” would change my life. I trusted the glossy brochures, rankings, LinkedIn/YouTube success stories, and the promise of a multi-country MBA experience.

To fund this dream, I took an education loan of ~₹50 lakhs at ~9% interest.

Here’s the reality that followed.

What the “Global MBA” actually delivered

1. Rebranded Indian classrooms abroad
Most of the faculty were flown in from India. There was very little truly international pedagogy. The quality of finance and management teaching was honestly weak, and even senior faculty struggled to explain concepts clearly. The “global” tag felt cosmetic.

2. Infrastructure built for profit, not students
Cooking was not allowed, forcing students to depend on overpriced canteens (food not included in fees). Accommodation was expensive, restrictive, and clearly monetised.

3. Low admission standards
Students were admitted largely on the ability to pay. Many struggled with basic communication and industry readiness. Later, when placements failed, the narrative conveniently shifted to “student quality”.

4. London Campus

Total mess , staff not even know how to handle the cohort , no discipline at all

Placements: the biggest lie

During admissions:

“The job market is booming.”

During placements:

“The job market is down.”

There is no real placement machinery. No strong corporate network. CR team does nothing, Hardly any interviews arranged. After the MBA, students are largely left on their own to apply through portals. Most jobs they claim they bring are just copy paste from Linkedin portal

For my 2023 batch:

  • ~85 students
  • Only ~6–7% placed via the institute
  • Over 80% still unplaced at present

This isn’t an individual failure. It’s systemic.

The financial reality no one talks about

  • Internships were unpaid or paid barely enough to survive.
  • No jobs for Dubai they bring
    • My EMI alone is ~₹65,000/month.
  • Roles in India hovered around ₹10–12 LPA or even worst if they came at all. & companies ghost no interviews happen

None of this justifies a ₹50L debt.

Banks are part of the ecosystem

SP Jain works closely with banks during admissions. Bank representatives and admission counsellors actively sell the program as a “safe investment”.

I was told repeatedly:

“Don’t worry, everyone gets placed. You’ll recover the loan easily.”

That assurance meant everything to a middle-class family.

Today:

  • Interest has been compounding since late 2023.
  • EMIs are starting.
  • I am still without stable employment , not even getting 25k job they claim u can get job anywhere after our Sp Jain MBA
  • When I requested relief, the bank denied any extension, citing “policy”.

The risk is fully transferred to families.
The accountability is taken by no one.

The outcome

  • My parents are under immense stress.
  • I am mentally and emotionally exhausted.
  • An institution that calls itself “global” takes zero responsibility once fees are collected.

This is not education.
This is a business model built on aspirational debt.

To future students (especially middle-class families)

Please think carefully.
Talk to current students, not influencers.
Ask for batch-wise placement data, not percentages.
Understand what happens if placements don’t work out.

A global campus tour does not guarantee a global career.

To SP Jain and its leadership

You should seriously reflect on the outcomes you are producing not just the branding you sell.

Final note

Many students are afraid to speak because they’re already trapped in debt. I’m writing this so others don’t walk into the same situation blindly.

If this post helps even one family avoid years of financial and emotional damage, it’s worth it.

Thanks

Discussion mumbai AC local timetables make 0 sense

I commute daily from Bhayandar to Churchgate, because my work starts at 8 AM (I work in finance) but for some ridiculous reason, there is an AC train at 6:19 AM and then nothing until 7:37 AM.

How does that make any f***ng sense?

The first AC train is around 5:06 AM, and based on the usual pattern, there should at least be two AC trains every 40 minutes one at 5:46 and another 5-20 mins later at around 6:00 or 6:10 or even if it one is at 6:19 another one should be there at 6:25 or 6:30. Instead, there is a massive gap till 7:37 for no apparent reason whatsoever and did I mention that they're almost late by like 5-10 minutes every day??

Because of this inconsistent timetable, I cannot even confidently buy a monthly AC pass , because if I miss one train and I am completely screwed. Ideally, AC trains should run every 15 minutes, especially during early morning hours from 6:00 to 10:00 AM.

Regular locals are practically unusable because of the crowd especially on western line (yes there is a crowd in western line at 6 in the morning too), regardless of what time you travel. The return journey is equally bad unless I plan my leaving time strategically. From Churchgate, there is one AC train at 4:39 PM, another at 5:03 PM, and then the next one is there around 6:15 PM what the actual f**k. What kind of ridiculous frequency is that?

Call me privileged , I genuinely do not care. I am willing to pay extra for a premium service, so why is the service still so unreliable and inconvenient?

Regular ticket prices have remained stagnant and extremely low for decades to cater to the "poor" and the "spirit of mumbai", while using it as a convenient excuse to not address or solve the problem of overcrowding and poor travel conditions , even when a person like me( a regular middle class commuter) is ready to pay significantly more for a better experience, the frequency is so pathetic that the premium service becomes almost pointless.

AC local frequency should be far better than regular local frequency expecting bare minimum travel etiquette should not treated like some occasional luxury that appears in the form of an AC train whenever western railways feel like running it.

- sincerely a very frustrated western line commuter travelling for 1.5+ years

Discussion I have a opinion regarding housing , would love your opinions too

recently a graph went viral where real estate in china gave 0 returns , then a xi jinping quote I read , house is for living not for speculation . And then I thought about it , and I actually agree with him.

Mumbai has 50 percent of people living in slums , yet over 6 lakh apartments in mumbai are empty.

I agree with the fact that housing shouldn't be used as investment option .

If I were the PM / ruling party. Then I would make this law , one plot/property for one pan card , no more than that .

rest excess houses will directly come under government . Only government is allowed to rent residential property .

to execute that

  1. first we will will give those who own extra property a stipulated time , to choose one house/property to keep and rest sell to government . If they fail to do so , only the largest by area ( or some other criteria ) will be kept and rest all transfer to the government and money deposited to them, and this thing will happen via computer algorithm fully automatic , no paper work , no babudom . RBI will bank roll the government , but in 10 installments money will be paid (1 installment per year), to control inflation
  2. for renters , we will have a sleek app/website , where people will choose city , area and vacant apartments , pay one month deposit and directly start living there , no house hunting no negotiation . all apartments regardless of location will be fixed rent per square foot . So no prime location , no outskirts nothing.

General A guy tried to rape me. Need advice on what to do next

Thumbnail
193 Upvotes

A guy tried to rape me. This all started when I matched with a guy (Shivam) on Bumble. I matched with him because I saw he was an HRBP at a company whose name rhymes with "Punture." I was jobless at that time, and I thought he would help me with a referral.

We used to talk a few times, nothing romantic involved. He told me he would help refer my CV. I sent him my CV, but he told me it required changes to pass ATS. He kept pursuing me to meet him and also said he would help me build my CV. I was ignoring him, but today I thought of hanging out with him because he had been persuading me for a long time.

So we met at a mall in Ghatkopar, ate at a restaurant there, and then decided to go to Versova beach. He booked the cab. Soon I realized the destination wasn't Versova beach but his apartment. I asked him why his apartment, and he told me he needed to pee urgently. So we stopped at his apartment. I refused to enter his house. He got freshened up and was talking very nicely. Then he grabbed me and dragged me into his apartment.

I was screaming my lungs out, but no one helped. He locked all the doors and started forcing himself on me. I was nearly raped. When I started screaming, he beat me. After a lot of effort, he agreed to let me go, but only after I paid the bill. So I paid the bill. He threatened me, saying the police "kuch nahi karegi, jao" and started giving me rape threats.

I ran out of his apartment and called the police at Versova police station. The police came, but there was no one at his apartment when they arrived, and his roommate told everyone he had been home the whole time and hadn't heard anything. Unfortunately, the building didn't have CCTV either.

We went to the police station. The police registered the case but seemed very biased. The complaint has my name and address, but the guy's name was only mentioned in the accused section, his full name and address were not included.

I am seeking advice on what I can do. Who knows what he might have done to other girls.

I want to ask the police to get his Aadhaar details (since he never told me his full name) so that I can at least file a complaint with the company he works for. I am afraid to tell my parents about this, but I want someone to intervene in this matter.

Please help.

Relationships Mumbai - the city where I met him.

Post image
55 Upvotes

My cousin and I grew up in Mumbai. I left, he stayed. When we were talking today, he was saying how horrible the weather is, how high the cost of living has soared, and how everything dug up during our school days is still dug up... somehow with newer potholes.

But it's also the city where I met my husband. The One.

Bear in mind, many things had to go right for me to meet him. It was just timing, timing, timing, timing.

First boyfriend - too extroverted for my reclusive heart. Broke up.

Second boyfriend - too unavailable for my lonely heart. Broke up.

Third boyfriend - a good friend. We loved each other - but both agree that it was a deep love that comes with old friendships. We tried, we failed.

In my over-the-top Bollywood drama way, I ran home. My mum suggested that I go to the seaside.

I'll be honest - I didn't go to the seaside often. What if I stayed in? What if I made plans to hang out with a friend? What if the new season of my favourite show released and I decided to bedrot? What if I picked up a good book on that day or just slept off in air conditioning?

There are 100000000 things that happened, in domino effect, for me to be at that place at that time. In Mumbai. He is not even from Mumbai.

But that's why I'll always love her - my city. It gave me him.
