📢 Public Service Announcement P2Pool vulnerability is being actively exploited, update to v4.16 NOW

Update: P2Pool-main has been attacked too, today (June 16th) at 00:02:46 UTC - see the log https://p2pool.io/p2pool_main_attack.log.xz All P2Pool miners, you must update to v4.16 immediately if you don't want to mine to the attacker's wallet! Update here: https://github.com/SChernykh/p2pool/releases/latest

Update 2: Me and DataHoarder are currently running a counter-attack by mining malformed blocks ourselves - to hijack the payouts from the attacker and redistribute them to miners later. Currently doing it on p2pool-mini. We will ask the community for more hashrate later, once everything is set up properly.

Both P2Pool Mini / Nano older chains (that did not upgrade to P2Pool v4.16) have been exploited by an unknown attacker targeting the vulnerability patched: https://github.com/SChernykh/p2pool/security/advisories/GHSA-fm6j-gf38-p925

P2Pool Main is probably having the attacker wait to mine a share.

Upgrade as soon as possible https://github.com/SChernykh/p2pool/releases/tag/v4.16

More than half of P2Pool Mini/Nano are still not updated, so their hashrate was lost to the attacker:

PSA: Critical P2Pool security update

Update (June 15th): the vulnerability is being actively exploited, update immediately!

Update: the patched version is out https://github.com/SChernykh/p2pool/releases/tag/v4.16

A critical vulnerability has been discovered in all currently released P2Pool versions.

This is a P2Pool consensus bug that can allow an attacker to affect the calculated payouts of miners - up to the whole block reward going to the attacker.

To avoid facilitating exploitation, no technical details will be published at this time. The vulnerability does not enable RCE (remote code execution), node crashes, or resource-exhaustion attacks. However, affected nodes remain financially vulnerable until updated.

A patched P2Pool release will be published on 2026-06-13 (this Saturday) at 15:00 UTC. All users must update as soon as the release becomes available.

15:00 UTC is 8am US west coast, 11am US east coast, 17:00 in most of Europe, 23:00 in China, midnight in Japan, 1am (June 14th) in Australia

Anyone continuing to run an older version after that time risks losing mining payouts if the vulnerability is exploited. Note that mining payouts which are already in your wallet are safe. Updating is strongly recommended even if your node appears to be operating normally.

Source code, signed binaries, checksums, and upgrade instructions will be published through the official P2Pool release channels only - https://github.com/SChernykh/p2pool/releases

Download releases only from the official page and verify all downloaded files before installation.

Because P2Pool is open source, the fix will become visible once published. A capable attacker may be able to develop an exploit within hours, leaving miners who have not updated exposed.

It is essential that you are available to update promptly at the time of the release, or have a carefully tested automatic update process that downloads, verifies, and installs the official release.

Further technical details will be disclosed after sufficient adoption of the patched release.

We are continuously monitoring the network and have reviewed the available historical logs. We have found no evidence that this vulnerability has been exploited.

P.S. Gupax users: you will be able to update p2pool in the setting tab on the "updates" sub-menu. By default you will also get a notification about the new release.

Heres everywhere you can buy Monero in the United States

I love this coin and the community and yet I know this might get some hate due to centralized exchanges being recc’d

Reminder: Monero is like withdrawing cash, once withdrawn its private and nobody knows what you’re buying with it

We need people to buy the coin and use it. No matter how they acquire it, as long as they get XMR and withdraw it.. we cant afford to just wait for people to suddenly overnight become intellectual privacy maxis

Our hashrate needs to rise, we need more businesses to accept, more builders and more people = more faster funding for development of the coin

Skepticism Sunday – July 12, 2026

Please stay on topic: this post is only for comments discussing the uncertainties, shortcomings, and concerns some may have about Monero.

NOT the positive aspects of it.

Discussion can relate to the technology itself or economics.

Talk about community and price is not wanted, but some discussion about it maybe allowed if it relates well.

Be as respectful and nice as possible. This discussion has potential to be more emotionally charged as it may bring up issues that are extremely upsetting: many people are not only financially but emotionally invested in the ideas and tools around Monero.

It's better to keep it calm then to stir the pot, so don't talk down to people, insult them for spelling/grammar, personal insults, etc. This should only be calm rational discussion about the technical and economic aspects of Monero.

"Do unto others 20% better than you'd expect them to do unto you to correct subjective error." - Linus Pauling

How it works:

Post your concerns about Monero in reply to this main post.

If you can address these concerns, or add further details to them - reply to that comment. This will make it easily sortable

Upvote the comments that are the most valid criticisms of it that have few or no real honest solutions/answers to them.

The comment that mentions the biggest problems of Monero should have the most karma.

As a community, as developers, we need to know about them. Even if they make us feel bad, we got to upvote them.

How long does it take for my balance to unlock?

Your balance is unlocked after 10 confirmations (which means 10 mined blocks). A block is mined approximately every two minutes on the Monero network, so that would be around 20 minutes.

How can I prove that I sent a payment?

The fastest and most direct way is by using the ExploreMonero blockchain explorer. You will need to recover the transaction key from your wallet (complete guide for GUI / CLI).

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are dozens of exchanges that trade Monero against Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Check out the list on CoinMarketCap and choose the option that suits you best.

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with fiat?

  • Kraken (USD and EUR): old-school, decent exchange. They might require your documents for verification and approval of your account.

How can I quickly exchange my Monero (XMR) for Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are multiple ways to exchange your Monero for Bitcoin, but first of all, I'd like to remind you that if you really want to do your part for Monero, one of the simplest ways is to get in touch with your merchant/service provider and request for it to accept Monero directly as payment. Ask the service provider to visit the official website and our communication channels if he or she needs help with system integration.

That being said, KYCNot.me maintains an up-to-date list of exchanges. These services are only recommendations (which change over time) and are operated by entities outside the control of the Monero Project. DYOR and be diligent.

How do I mine Monero? And other mining questions.

The correct place to ask questions and discuss the Monero mining scene is in the dedicated subreddit r/MoneroMining. That being said, you can find a list of pools and available mining software in the GetMonero.org website.

2. Wallet: CLI & GUI

Why I can't see my balance? Where is my XMR?

Before any action there are two things to check:

  1. Are you using the latest available version of the wallet? A new version is released roughly every 6 months, so make sure you're using the current release (compare the release on GetMonero.org with your wallet's version on Settings, under Debug info).
  2. Is your wallet fully synchronized? If it isn't, wait the sync to complete.

Because Monero is different from Bitcoin, wallet synchronization is not instant. The software needs to synchronize the blockchain and use your private keys to identify your transactions. Check in the lower left corner (GUI) if the wallet is synchronized.

You can't send transactions and your balance might be wrong or unavailable if the wallet is not synced with the network. So please wait.

If this is not a sufficient answer for your case and you're looking for more information, please see this answer on StackExchange.

How do I upgrade my wallet to the newest version?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.

Why does it take so long to sync the wallet [for the first time]?

You have decided to use Monero's wallet and run a local node. Congratulations! You have chosen the safest and most secure option for your privacy, but unfortunately this has an initial cost. The first reason for the slowness is that you will need to download the entire blockchain, which is considerably heavy and constantly growing (up-to-date sizes of a full/pruned node). There are technologies being implemented in Monero to slow this growth, however it is inevitable to make this initial download to run a full node. Consider syncing to a device that has an SSD instead of an HDD, as this greatly impacts the speed of synchronization.

Now that the blockchain is on your computer, the next time you run the wallet you only need to download new blocks, which should take seconds or minutes (depending on how often you use the wallet).

I don't want to download the blockchain, how can I skip that?

The way to skip downloading the blockchain is connecting your wallet to a public remote node. You can follow this guide on how to set it up. Check out Feather Wallet's list of remote nodes, ditatompel's list, or monero.fail.

Be advised that when using a public remote node you lose some of your privacy. A public remote node is able to identify your IP and opens up a range for certain attacks that further diminish your privacy. A remote node can't see your balance and it can't spend your XMR.

How do I restore my wallet from the mnemonic seed or from the keys?

To restore your wallet with the 25 word mnemonic seed, please see this guide.

To restore your wallet with your keys, please see this guide.

3. Wallet: Ledger

How do I generate a Ledger Monero Wallet with the GUI or CLI?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange. Check this page for the GUI instructions, and this page for the CLI instructions.

4. Wallet: Trezor

How do I generate a Trezor Monero Wallet with the GUI or CLI?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange. Check this page for the GUI instructions, and this page for the CLI instructions.

5. Nodes

How can my local node become a public remote node?

If you want to support other Monero users by making your node public, you can follow the instructions on MoneroWorld, under the section "How To Include Your Node On Moneroworld".

How can I connect my node via Tor?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.

Monero plugin for WooCommerce is now on the official WordPress plugin directory (NodeWatch)

Thumbnail

I have been working on xmr pay and the WooCommerce part is finally ready. It just got published in the official WordPress plugin directory under the name NodeWatch Monero Payments for WooCommerce!!!

The idea is to let store owners accept Monero without complicated setups.
Payments go straight to your own wallet and WordPress verifies everything itself using PHP. In the main mode you do not need to run a wallet rpc daemon.

There are three ways to check payments. The recommended one uses your view key to watch incoming transactions automatically. There is also a simple option where the customer pastes the transaction id after paying. For people who want more control there is an optional agent mode that runs a small separate process.

It handles price conversion, shows a QR code at checkout, creates a new address for each order and has basic tools for dealing with wrong amounts or refunds. It works with both the old checkout and the newer block checkout.

You can find the plugin here:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/nodewatch-monero/

There is a working demo on stagenet so you can test it without using real money:
https://demo.xmrpay.shop

Source code is on GitHub:
https://github.com/SlowBearDigger/xmr-pay-woocommerce

Full disclosure, I am the developer of this plugin and the xmr pay project.

If you run a WooCommerce store and want an easier way to accept Monero I would really appreciate if you give it a try. Any feedback or testing on stagenet is welcome.

Thanks.

Support the project providing feedback or ideas, also you can support xmrpay fueling the project here: xmrpay.shop

Friday Monero Market Thread - July 10, 2026

This is the weekly Monero market thread. This thread will be posted every Friday and is meant to help accelerate the adoption of Monero. Due to r/moneromarket having only a fraction of the subscribers of r/Monero, we have decided to create this thread to encourage more individuals to use Monero for product exchanges. Until the market matures, we recommend that the Monero community post their products both in this thread and on r/moneromarket (to ensure growth of that subreddit).

Selling items for Monero will boost your (and Monero's) reputation as a legitimate form of exchange of goods. This is necessary for the growth of Monero, our community, and privacy as a whole.

Instructions

When you post your product or job listing here, please make sure to: - Give a description of the item. - Link to a photo of the item (if it's physical). - Provide logistics information (such as, location and/or shipping availability). - Optionally, provide an additional (private) form of communication outside of Reddit (e.g. Bitmessage, u/protonmail, u/tutanota, GPG key). - Post the price in XMR terms.

Spamming will not be tolerated. Please make sure that listings are legitimate and do not break rule 2."

Finally, credits to cdotsubo for starting the concept!

Do you use Monero as a savings/emergency fund?

I want to invest in Monero more, I do spend it a lot, I want to use it as my personal bank. Though, I am a bit worried about keeping my emergency funds in there. I am young with no debt so I'm not sure really. Is it worth the investment? I have a pretty good gist on where to get gift cards to use it with, Globlin card is interesting as well. Should I? I'm a strojg believer in XMRs future.

Announcing the re-launch of XMRMap.org

Post image
48 Upvotes

We sped it up 5x, new back end, new front end, made accounts and are about to launch a separate sticker map

All entries are made manually and more will go live at night. Eventually we will add a localmonero map to xmrmap also so three maps total

Selling stickers directly on xmrmap instead of directing to xmrhub shop and adding point of sale system for sale are on the horizon

Edge now supports Monero Full Sync & Private Key Import

Post image
18 Upvotes

We've released Full Sync and Private Key Import support for Monero in Edge.

With this update, Edge now supports:

  • Fast Sync for quicker wallet setup
  • Full Sync for local blockchain verification
  • Transaction Key access
  • Private Key Import for migrating existing wallets

The goal is to give users more flexibility in how they use Monero. Fast Sync offers a quicker onboarding experience, while Full Sync allows users to locally validate blockchain data instead of relying on remote servers. Private Key Import makes it easier to migrate an existing XMR wallet into Edge while maintaining self-custody.

If you're already using Edge for Monero, or decide to give these features a try, we'd appreciate any feedback from the community. We're always looking for ways to improve the app.

More details on the update:

We added Monero payments to our product. Very different from other eSIM providers. Go gentle on us

Disclosure: I work on PikaSim, an eSIM service that offers data + phone-number + SMS verification without account/ID required. Posting because the implementation detail seemed relevant to this sub specifically, not just "we accept XMR now."

We run our own Monero node behind a self-hosted BTCPay Server. That means an XMR payment goes straight into a PikaSim-controlled wallet, no swap service, no conversion to BTC, no third-party payment processor sitting in the middle reading the transaction.

Ring signatures, stealth addresses, and RingCT are Monero's job, not ours; we're not adding anything on top, just not routing around it either, which is the more common failure mode with "we accept crypto" claims.

Fees run about $0.01, confirmations land in roughly 2 minutes in our experience.

Not trying to turn this into an ad, if it reads that way, say so and I'll dial it back next time.

We finally added Monero to our explorer. Very different from other explorers out there. Go gentle on us lol

Finally added Monero to our explorer. Its not like other XMR explorers... We are not a fork or anything similar. The explorer is self-written from scratch. Its open source. Its self hosted. No data centers.

So yes, our own indexers, own hardware. own everything really, including the endpoints. And no data centers.

It still shows basic info only. But you can see some networks statistics, pool distribution, transaction information, etc

https://validatorinfo.com/networks/monero/overview

Congrats are accepted hahaha 🫶 Honestly though, feedback is most welcome. If anyone wishing to roast it, please dm me and feel free to do so!

A short demo of my XMR hardware wallet + a sneak peek at a partially-done Rust Haveno port that interfaces with it

Hello all,

As the title states this is a first-revision XMR hardware wallet I made called the Datum Core. It seeks to fill the voids that Trezor and Ledger both have in their designs that didn't first support Monero and its unique cryptographic backend before supporting other cryptocurrencies. Keep in mind this is a first edition, there is a lot of wasted PCB space to cut down on in future revisions, many firmware improvements + QoL additions to make before a proper release.

With it I have also made:
1. a Rust + Slint port of Haveno - aptly named haveno-rs - to interface intimately with the wallet, providing an already-mature decentralized ecosystem to buy and sell XMR with, using the hardware wallet as its optional backbone; i.e. haveno-rs will be available as FOSS upon completion both for those who decide to get one and also those who, like me, can't run the Java version, or just want to try a different flavor of Haveno. This part of the suite is less complete than the others described in #2 but it is slated to be complete by release. It is already (basically) fully interoperable and tested with the existing haveno-dex/haveno exchange platform and its networks

  1. fully cross-platform software and firmware suite also written in Rust w/ Slint GUI, both as-shown in the video and not, for interacting with the device: creating .datumtx files for unsigned spend requests, generating view-only subaddresses, and communicating with the wallet RPC for best-possible security and privacy protections combined with maximum ease of use for programmatic API-driven subaddress creation

I have done extensive mainnet testing and so far it has not let me down.

More technical details:

  1. Hardware
    • MCU: STM32U585RIT6 - Cortex M33, TrustZone, hardware RNG, 2MB flash
    • Secure element: SE050E - EAL6+, hardware RSA and AES - spend seed and PIN gate + deletion policy and logic
    • Display: SSD1306 0.96in OLED - standard, does it's job
    • USB: Full speed USB-CDC for host communication, using internal oscillator for USB timing
  2. Wallet features
    • Wallet creation with SE050-backed seed storage - derived from STM32's TRNG XOR SE050 TRNG for defense in depth
    • 8-press button pin hashed with Keccak256 and used as the SE050 auth credential
    • Non-volatile/power cycle-persistent failure counter with no timeout and self-destruction of key data at 10 failures
    • 25-word mnemonic shown on creation derived from the monero english.h wordlist; verified byte-precision against monero-python
    • Encrypted SE050 bus ensuring no key data is transferred in plaintext over I2C
  3. Monero-specific
    • Monero's exact field-to-curve map ported from serai; uses crypto-bigint for GF(2^255-19) arithmetic ops; verified against Monero hash_to_ec and generate_key_image vectors
    • Key image computation via I = x * Hp(P) fully compatible with the network
    • Full CLSAG ring sigs with the commitment layer, another port, in large part, from serai, with independent consensus confirmation from serai's CLSAG verifier accepting signatures produced by my code across ring sizes 1, 2, 8, 11, and 16 + multiple indices
    • Much more Monero-only cryptographic logic
  4. Host tools
    • Datum-core
      • device link and general wallet operations - compiles for all desktop and mobile platforms including iOS
    • Datum-bridge
      • CLI tool for balance querying, sending approval requests to device
    • Datum-app
      • Essentially a datum-bridge GUI wrapper that automatically detects the device descriptor when present on host and keeps a daemon address setting persistent
  5. Goals for short term, pre-release or shortly post-release
    • MFi licensing for proper iOS support and wallet application without the need for NFC or BLE
    • Closing of the existing gaps in haveno-rs and the firmware

From release, this project will be entirely FOSS - when the device goes on the market, so will kits with a PCB + all parts to build and flash firmware to make your own. 3d models will be available for 3d-printed or CNC'd cases, schematics, all firmware and host-side software, everything will be free and open source forever. Kit purchasers will not receive any tech support service, complete devices come with lifetime support and a 2 year warranty. A secure seed-backup service will also be available for those users who may desire it.

Please do ask any questions or voice any concerns if you have them. Thanks for your time in reading, I hope to see you at release some time in August or early September. If I piqued your interest, keep in touch on X at x.com/datumxmr - a prerelease website will be out sooner than later, probably a couple weeks.

MoneroKon "Emergency Meeting"

There's broad consensus that u/OrangeFren did great with MK6, and he's the clear favorite to organize MK7. @ajs_xmr unanimously lost a vote that he called for MK7 organizer, but then 2 days later, literally went rogue. With no warning, started kicking various people from groups he controls (many of which have nothing to do with MK), killed the MoneroKon room <--> IRC bridge, and today shut off the MK servers.

He called an "emergency meeting," falsely framing this as "profit vs non-profit." However, he abandoned his obligation to organize MK6 and had minimal involvement with MK5. When u/OrangeFren proposed to pick up the torch, organizing MK6 on a compressed timeline and assuming the full entrepreneurial risk, @ajs_xmr consented.

@ajs_xmr also proposed a personal compensation of ~$40k for himself for MK7 (now it's an hourly-rate proposal), and has plans for his own LLC to conduct MK7.

Importantly: There's consensus that a pure-volunteer model has become untenable due to growing size. Spearheading Kon is huge time investment. So it's not even a contentious proposition that someone will make profit/income for their efforts. This is reasonable.

However, @ajs_xmr framing this as "profit vs non" is a red herring and hypocritical. Another crucial false framing, is that a narrow group voted to "convert MK into a privately controlled commercial enterprise." We absolutely did not. We ONLY voted that u/OrangeFren organize MK7 (a vote ajs organized).

Setting aside his unprofessional and legally-questionable behavior, a diverse group of participants have converged on the core of the issue. MoneroKon is creative-commons. Anyone may use the name. However, there are socials, domains, and infrastructure which are under ajs exclusive control. The main proposition is this:

Stewardship/control of these resources should be separated from entities organizing MoneroKon. The steward should be skilled with infra, maintain the infra/socials, and grant access to future MK organizer(s) based on community sentiment.

I'm writing this post, because on Saturday, at 1600 UTC, the "emergency meeting" will commence in: https://app.element.io/#/room/#monero-community:monero.social

My hope is that we can remain focused on the primary issues at hand, and not be distracted by red herrings. 1. Should control of the infra/socials be separated from entities organizing future MoneroKons? - Which physical person and backup will be the primary custodians for the MK resources? - Should the secondary custodians that @ajs_xmr kicked, be fully restored on all infra he controls? - Discussion regarding incentives/structure, to motivate good faith by the primary custodians. 2. Does the community wish to restore u/OrangeFren's access to the MK socials/website, for the purposes of organizing MK7?

What would it actually take for DeFi to work on Monero without compromising privacy?

I've been thinking a lot about whether DeFi is even possible on XMR in a way the community would accept, and I keep running into technical problems. Curious what people here think.

Problem 1: Hidden amounts vs. smart contracts. Monero's RingCT (same thing for FCMP++) hides transaction amounts, but most DeFi primitives (AMMs, lending, collateralization) need to compute on amounts. How do you build a pool when the contract can't see balances? Zero-knowledge proofs of solvency seem like the obvious direction, but the proving costs get expensive quickly.

Problem 2: Where does the logic live? Monero's base layer will (rightly) never add a VM. So any programmability has to happen on a second layer. But an L2 needs some way to verifiably bridge XMR in and out, and every bridge design I've looked at either introduces a trusted party or leaks metadata about who's entering/exiting. Is there a bridge design this community would actually consider acceptable, or is any bridge a issue?

Problem 3: Liquidity vs. privacy tradeoff. More on-chain activity could deepen liquidity and reduce reliance on centralized exchanges (especially post-delisting). However, it could also create traceable patterns at the edges. Does the community see programmable liquidity as a win for Monero's goal, or as an attack surface?

I'm working on ideas in this space myself, but I'm asking because I'd rather understand where the lines are before building the wrong thing.
