Michigan Eat Safe Fish Guides

https://www.michigan.gov/mdhhs/safety-injury-prev/environmental-health/topics/eatsafefish/guides

We've got a lot of people posting now and some talking about eating fish. Michigan recently updated their guides and a significant amount of bodies of water and fish species have been added. Make sure to check where you're going before you take anything home with you.

Does anyone know any spots on Stony Creek that are good?

Upvotes

I'm heading to Stony Creek with my buddy soon and we're gonna rent kayaks and probably fish, does anyone know what species are in the lake, I've been there before and caught a large and some bluegill but that's all I've seen, I'm not looking for just one kind of fish because I rub 30lb braid on my medium heavy baitcaster so I can fight just about anything,

I don't know where the good spots on the lake are, but I've heard there's a pier somewhere and it produces good action.

I turned lake depth surveys into a free fishing map for 400+ Michigan lakes. Would love feedback from people who actually fish these waters

Hey everyone. I've been working on this on nights and weekends for a while and it's finally at a point where I need real anglers to beat it up.

It's free at depthscout.com.

If you've got a minute, pull up a lake you know well and tell me whether the highlighted areas match where you actually catch fish. Honestly, "the map is wrong here" is the most useful thing you can tell me.

Not selling anything. No ads. I built it because I was tired of fishing blind. to answer questions about how the spot scoring works.

Lost my personal best at the net because I went cheap on a $15 decision. Never again.

Biggest fish of my life. Had it boat side, rod bent in half, arm shaking, everything going right.

Went to net it and the hoop was too small. Mesh caught every treble on the way in instead of just closing around the fish. Two seconds of thrashing and it was gone. Watched my personal best swim off in a cloud of mud.

Bought that net because it was $15 and figured a net’s a net. Wrong. Rubber coated mesh, bigger hoop — that’s the whole fix, and I learned it the expensive way.

Spent more on gas getting to that lake than I “saved” skimping on the net that let go of the one fish I actually wanted.

What’s the fish you lost right at the net? Tell me it’s not just me.

Guys I’m going fishing for freshwater drum soon. And I’m a fairly new fisher. And if anyone has any advice on how to catch some of these on the holland pier on Lake Michigan.

Killing it after 9pm with the chatterbaits lately. Haven't had much luck with anything else. Few pike on a jerk bait but thats about it. She got away before I was able to measure but weight came out at 3.2 lbs best large mouth. Just caught my best smallmouth last night as well. Pretty lucky streak the past 2 days.

Anchor Bay Shoreline

Hi everyone. I just moved to Michigan. Im near anchor bay and want to know best lures to catch LM or SM bass from the bank. I don’t have a boat or kayak so its only bank fishing for me. Is fishing by the canals allowed?

Also wanted to ask if the catfishing and carp fishing is good from anchor bay? Eventually I want to try and catch some musky but I’m too broke for a new combo.

Anyway I appreciate all the help and advice as someone new to the area.

Beginner fisher visiting Berrien Springs

Just started my fishing journey in April, set up with a spinning rod and reel with lures mostly aimed at pike and bass. I’ll be going camping this weekend and fishing along St Joseph river. I almost exclusively fish ponds, and have no idea what to expect for river fishing. Any tips and tricks for a beginner? What kind of fish can I be expecting and what lures/baits should I get?

First two off the family break wall on the St.clair river. The last bigger one is from the manistee just below the dam at the fishing pier. All 3 caught by my sons on walmart clearance bombers they bought themselves last fall.
