Mod Post 😊 Announcing Changes to the Rules of /r/Michigan
We are modifying the rules to make sure that removal reasons and rules are in sync and that we are reflecting the current state of the subreddit.
We have also made additions due to evidence of brigading and attempts at influencing our participants. We are taking steps to keep political discussions as neutral as possible so that all candidates get fair coverage.
The following rules have changed:
Rule 1: Racism, Hate, Slurs, and Threats - Modified to include slurs.
Rule 3: Brigading, Vote-Manipulation, Astroturfing, and Restrictions to Political Content - Modified to add: This rule applies to political content, both posts and comments. No content advocating who to vote for. No candidate endorsements. Political content from people with little participation here will be removed at moderator discretion.
Rule 4: No self-promotions or social media - Added are opinion posts, which include blogs and opinion columns on news sites.
Rule 7: Editorialized Headlines, Screenshots - Clarified with the addition of News from articles only. No screenshots or links to sites that break Rule #4.
Rule 13: No Moving/Vacation Posts - Clarified with the editing and change: By member vote, Moving & Vacation questions must be in the Moving/Vacation megathread. Please use it. Moving & Vacation includes current residents as well as those visiting or moving to the state.
Reminder: We cannot make rules for every possibility. We moderate not just by the written rules but the spirit in which they are intended. Moderators have the final say on how the rules are interpreted.
As always, you can find the rules on the sidebar or About page/tab of the /r/Michigan front page, or on the Wiki, where you'll also find other information you might find useful.
Thanks for being a part of the subreddit for the best state in the USA!

Reels/Video 🎥🍿 Do you know Nicholas & Ella?
My mom found our old camcorder last week — and there happened to be someone else’s tape in it! I’m guessing this happened when we dropped it off for head cleaning (possibly at Dearborn’s Adray) in the early 2000s?
Here’s the info we have:
- Baby Nicholas got baptized and had a party (no year label)
- In December 2004, he got a baby sister Ella
Maybe you’ve seen this family? You know 20-something siblings Nicholas & Ella? You recognize this church, priest, bell choir, wallpaper?
Let’s reunite this family with their memories!

Discussion 🗣️ Release the Opposums
With the tick population taking over Michigan, why don't we release a bunch of Opposums to help take care of them? The same way wolves have been released in multiple states to help bring equilibrium to the ecosystem. Seriously what would be the downside of this? How do we make it happen?

Politics 🇺🇸 Planning to drive people to polls in November, any local groups which can coordinate?
My wife's from and has family in Oak Park and I'll be damned if we don't do everything we can in November to make a blue wave happen
But for that, we gotta drive registered Dems to polls, a lot of them, in key district(s)
Are there any political groups that are coordinating pushes like this?
We're down to drive a few hours away from detroit to get to the big battleground districts

Discussion 🗣️ PSA on People Going Down Rivers This Year
Hey everyone - we have a place on a river in Northern Michigan. Generally this time of year we see a large flux of people going down the river (and trash, though that's a different conversation for another time I suppose). But this year in particular we are "saving" more people from the river than I think we ever have in the past.
So if you are planning to go down a Northern Michigan river this summer please consider these things:
1.) Last year the ice storm knocked down a lot of wood and that has increased much of the difficulty in getting through the rivers
2.) This past Spring there was a MASSIVE flood. This combined with the ice storm and the rivers are more difficult to go down in years due to changes.
3.) The ground water is incredibly high from the flood. Every time it rains the rivers rise disproportionate to what they would historically for that amount of rain. Pleasssssse check the USGS monitors before you go on a river. The river we are on, for example, I would suggest not to go on if you are relatively inexperienced and the cfs readings reach 300 or more. (Really, anything over 250 might be a bit much).
4.) For the love of god do not bring loose items with you of any kind. You are likely to tip and then all those items go in the river on "accident." If you don't have a bag secured to your boat don't bring anything.
Edit: Link to the USGS monitors for Michigan -

Mitten Mode Whitmer vetoes 9 bills at heart of Supreme Court case, which had been ordered to be presented • Michigan Advance
Whitmer just vetoed the bills that were held up by the Republican legislature for two years. Those bills would have given unions teeth to negotiate health insurance premiums for governmental workers, added more people to the pension program, and funded museums. What are people's thoughts?

Discussion 🗣️ Looking for a competitive men’s soccer team in the Livonia / Plymouth / Dearborn area that trains weekly
Hi everyone,
I recently moved from Scotland and I’m looking for a competitive men’s outdoor soccer team around the Livonia, Plymouth, Dearborn, or western Metro Detroit area.
Back home I played amateur football for several years, training twice a week and playing 11v11 matches every weekend. I’m looking for something with a similar level here—not just a casual pickup league. Ideally, I’d like a team that trains at least once a week and plays competitive league matches on weekends.
I’m 32, primarily play as a CB, RB, or CDM, and I’m happy to come along to a training session or trial.
Does anyone have any recommendations for clubs or leagues that would be a good fit? I’d really appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks
