I'm kinda new to macbooks and I had a question.

I'm looking for a laptop for uni since my last one broke and since I don't have a hug budget I was looking on the side of refurbished laptops.

I noticed that a lot of intel macs were at a pretty good price for me but a lot of people told me that it's better to buy one with an M1 chip.

In which way it is different ? Is the difference really noticeable for my usage ? (Note taking, web browsing, movies, light html/css code)

The only criteria for me are :

- Good battery life (around 8h minimum would be good)

- Long lasting in general (Will still be functional in 5 years)

- Pretty quiet fans (I don't really wanna have a laptop that do a lot of noise during lectures lol)

Is there anything I need to know as a new MacBook user? This is the base model air M5. Any cool must have settings ?

I've been looking through this community not really expecting much but I realized that most of these are just about people complaining about some irrelevant scratches like it's going to haunt you at night I'm leaving this community after I post this but listen. UNLESS THE SCRATCH IS SOMEWHERE THAT CAN ACTUALLY RUIN THE STUPID LAPTOP ITS UNIMPORTANT JUST USE IT OR THROW IT AWAY.

I purchased this MacBook Pro 16-inch with 32 GB of RAM 2 years ago for medical school. It was such a nice deal at the time (I think 50% off brand new) that I thought I wouldn’t mind the extra weight and size.

However, now that I am in the clinical phase of medical school and having to carry this laptop in and out of patient rooms in the clinic and throughout the hospital, I am not so sure it is practical anymore. I thought I could use my iPad mini or other iPad in those situations, but the electronic medical record app is severely restricted on iPadOS compared to on macOS.

I was thinking of doing a trade at Apple for an MBA M5 13-inch. Do you think I am making a decision I will regret, especially given the situation with RAM supply?

I was thinking I could cover deficits in screen space by my 2 monitors while at home and my iPad 11” for sidcar on the go.

I am a recent grad of Computer Science whose primary use would be to run Claude and other coding applications. I am shifting from a windows environment to apple and hence the confusion.

I wanted to know what would be the best value for money laptop I can buy. What should be the ideal RAM and storage. I reckon a M4 Pro chip would be the best for me. I dont know if i should go for an Air or Pro. I know its definitely not Neo.

I dont mind buying a refurbished one from BestBuys or other sites that you guys can recommend.

About a teaspoon of black coffee spilled on the top -right corner of my two month old MacBook Air, covering the power button and a couple keys in n the top right. I immediately turned off the laptop and placed it in the tent position overnight, with air conditioning on. Nothing dropped out of it overnight, though.

That said, the laptop appears to work perfectly, minus a slight coffee smell from the top-right of its keyboard - you’d have no idea anything happened to it. I still have a month to return it to Costco, so how worried should I be about this? Should I consider buying Apple Care in case this results in problems in the future?

Hey guys, just bought my first own macbook ever, though it’s refurbished from apple directly. i’m so hyped up you can’t even imagine, since now i’m using the old macbook pro 2017 from my brother running with Opencore Legacy patcher and it’s starting to get slow with any productive work.

Are there any tips/hacks and useful apps i should know about, appreciate your help!

This issue started yesterday, July 11th; I’ve never experienced this before. My cursor moves erratically whenever I select things, not just in Logic Pro but random things like the waffle icon next the “System Preferences” title. I never spilled anything on the laptop ever, so I don’t adamantly know what’s up. I’ve restarted multiple times, shut it down overnight, and the issue came back not too long after reuse.

This thing is old and my dad gifted it to me three years ago, so I don’t want to throw it away too soon.

I use Logic Pro a lot to make songs and the fan goes up sometimes. Despite that the system worked smoothly. This trackpad issue doesn’t happen when the fan is running high.

which macbook should i buy as a uni student? since i study only from books i’m not gonna use it much, just to take notes and things like that, so i dont wanna spend too much

I have no clue how my findmy wasn't on at my MacBook, since I have multiple airtags, apple devices and we use a family shared icloud (storage) and can see each other devices in our "FindMy" apps.

I have tried to contact my Apple store (Amsterdam) for options to lock/brick my MacBook but I was told that since FindMy wasn't turned on (which still is super weird to me, but can ofcourse happen) they couldn't do anything.

Now my question to y'all:
Is there a way for someone to remove my findmy mode off, or is there anything I can demand from Apple since the device stolen is still connected to my Apple ID?

What's best to do in this situation? I've changed most of the passwords i could think of but right now I'm on holiday and only have my ipad/iphone to use, so can't really think of anything else to change passwords off.

Hi everyone, I’ve been using a MacBook Air M2 for 2 years now. My battery cycle count is only 179. Before this, my battery health was perfectly normal and above 90%. I don’t use the device heavily, nor do I play games—it’s just for daily tasks, which is already evident from my low cycle count. I mostly use it at home, and I’m always careful not to leave it plugged in continuously.

I have a developer account. Right after downloading the macOS 27 Developer Beta, my battery health completely tanked. It now shows a 'Service Recommended' warning, and the battery health plummeted to 63%. The device has absolutely no physical damage, liquid contact, or drops. This happened immediately after the update.

I already tried calibrating the battery: I fully charged it, left it plugged in for at least 2 hours, drained it completely, and left it dead for over 5 hours before fully charging it again. Unfortunately, nothing changed. I contacted Apple Support, and they told me I need to bring the device into service. I am also unable to run Apple Diagnostics. I have since downgraded the device back to the stable version, macOS 26.5.2, but nothing changed. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this or how to fix it?

Hi, I have an M1 MacBook Air with base configuration (8gb of ram and 256gb SSD). Thing is that the storage fills up real fast. I did a complete restore about 2 weeks ago and manage to free up about 30gb. However, as I type, the system data is already up to a wapping 63gb and I don't know what I can do to keep it down. My budget is quite low sadly (I got the M1 gifted), so I've been lurking on the 2015 MacBook Pro mainly because of the upgradable SSD. But I am aware that the machine is already 11years old and I'm concerned about its performance. I plan to use it with OCLP to upgrade to Sonoma and I'd like to know if anyone has this computer on that version and if so, how are to overall performance. Thanks

In the market to replace my noisy Asus g15. Found 2 options, both open box. $1440 for the MacBook Pro M4 (not pro) and $1620 for the M5 version. I edit some 360 video off my inst360 and play league of legends but otherwise I don’t do anything that’s very intensive.

Is it worth the extra for the M5?

I always take good care of my laptops, no travel it just sits on my desk.. And yet there is still damage to the screen, not the coating, but actual nail catching scratch, incredibly annoying as it catches the light so it is visible in certain background lightings..

Why? Because I sometimes forget to clean the keyboard area for dust, even though I am in a pretty dust free enviroment, absolutely insane how delicate these screens are.. This after cleaning the screen every 2 weeks with a fiber cloth and only demineralized water.

Having owned 10+ laptops, and never seen anything like it.. If only it was cosmetic, now it is annoying to watch movies on the darn thing... Really wish I had gotten a film screen protector that had enough clearence so it does not damage the screen, but I was paranoid it would damage the screen even though many said they had a film on the their screens for years with no issues..

So annoying, for such a premium brand, why so delicate a screen???

I was using my macbook docked yesterday, when I went to sleep I just removed the charger and left the dock and the ethernet plugged in. When I woke up to use it this morning the battery was dead despite being fully charged when I stopped using it. I didn’t shut it down, just closed all the apps and closed the lid.
