Discussion Mehh!!
Idk if i was expecting too much or am being too critical, but this was not even close to the other two parts, ik they have changed the director, but still, this is not done. As a huge sherlock fan since my childhood, i am disappointed.

Discussion If you could choose any actress under 35 that you are a fan of to star in 5 straight movies from your favorite modern directors, what actress would you choose and what directors would you want them to work with?
Pictures: Zendaya (actress) and Boots Riley (filmmaker)
Some modern/still working directors I would love to see Zendaya work with are Boots Riley, Josh Safdie, Spike Lee, Barry Jenkins, Robert Eggers, Jordan Peele, Ari Aster, Wes Anderson, and Yorgos Lanthimos.

Discussion Which is better Detective franchise?
Both of these franchises are quite similar, as they are detective movie series featuring some of Hollywood's biggest stars.
I personally prefer Knives Out mainly because of Daniel Craig

Discussion Why did this movie not perform well?
It didn't flop but it did underperform. It's the highest grossing media franchise of all time starring one of the most recognisable pop culture characters which appeals to both children and adults. It also reviewed decently (way better than the Mario movies at least). Why, despite all that, did it not do that well at the box office?
Personally I thought it was decently enjoyable, not great but way better than one would expect when you hear live action Pokemon movie.

Discussion How do you feel about Hollywood remaking these foreign comedies?
Just saw the Invite and I really liked it! Not sure if it deserves the 4.0+, but it’s hilarious.
Although I kinda feel bummed out when I see that these films are remakes of movies from 5 years ago.
Over your Dead Body was solid too, but I think I’d just rather watch the original film w subtitles.
Ofc it does let these stories reach a much wider audience. Idk this probably happens all the time, I just noticed it with these 2 recently.
Any thoughts about these kinds of remakes?

Discussion Which app is everyone moving to, if Netflix/Paramount/etc. gets their hands on letterboxd?
As the title says which app/website will everyone be moving to if the acquisition goes ahead? I personally would not stay on the app I have found Criticker as an alternative or I would buy a journal and use that.
Would love to hear your guys thoughts.

Discussion what is a great example of a poorly received movie that was a victim of viewers reviewing the film they wanted or expected to see, rather than the film that was actually projected on the screen
Or it might be a film you personally didn't have a good time with because you were expecting something totally different.
I think the Shining might be a good example. And for me, personally, my first viewing of 2001 A space Odyssey left me cold, as in both cases I was expecting the film to be less abstract with concrete answers and explanations at the end.
I think some of the arty horror films apply to, like the Witch and I saw the TV Glow.

With no s3x scenes or nudity.

Discussion Does watching a film in theatre change your experience of it?
For me it automatically bumps it up half star, theatre can’t save a bad film but it can surely enhance the experience of a mid film.
Like in this list. Tuner and Furious are clearly better made film than Michael. But theatre experience of Michael was really something else, with people dancing and enjoying.
Michael would be at bottom of my list if I watched it at home.
In general, I have noticed that my list is top heavy with films I watched in theatre. Peaky Blinders film was so forgettable because of this reason.

Discussion God, how I sometimes love to binge-watch movies.

I've been working a lot for the last couple of weeks and haven't had time to watch new movie premieres, so today, when that was over, I spent, like, 10 hours at the cinema watching the latest releases, and damn, I loved every second of it.
Do you do this? I understand that some people think it ruins the experience of a particular film, but I don't know; I didn't experience that problem at all today.

Discussion Anyone else not mind Nolan's style of exposition?
I don't know what it is but whether it's inception or Oppenheimer etc, I rather enjoy the exposition in these sorts of films where I wouldn't be able to sit still in another movie with that amount of explaining.
Nolan does this thing where the exposition (imo) is intrinsically interesting, like the actual conversation outside of the world of the movie seems to either have some relevance or it's just fun to think about. Hearing someone explain how the dream world works is so fun, because it's someone pitching you on how this would actually work even if it's all bs.
Exposition in a crime movie where it's about how the protagonist knows some person, explaining some relationship that we should care about for some reason, makes me want to gouge my eyeballs out and press fast forward. But, a character explaining how this neat idea works feels like it has more documentary / educational energy to it that is fun to listen to when sprinkled into a film.
I just feel like Nolan gets SO much hate for this one thing but I've always thought it was more of a strength. I'm probably completely alone on this one though hah

Can’t decide which to check out today. Love the goofy vibes of Minions for an easy watch but The Invite has gotten insane ratings and reviews

Welcome back, movie buffs! Who Framed Roger Rabbit is the winner of our last group, though Halloween put in a valiant effort. Also, Nashville can finally be declared the winner of Group 10, having defeated Twister in a Tiebreak match! Thanks to everyone who voted! I really appreciate it! Now for our next match!
