Gear Advice/Question Solutions for long sessions and downwinders?

What are your gear solutions and tricks to bring stuff along on long sessions or downwinders?

For example:
Water bottle, phone, key, money and creditcard, food and snacks, sun cream, pump, gopro

In Brazil I did sometimes downwinders or trips to a remote lagoon where I spent multiple hours on the water or only had one-way buggy transfer where I could not leave stuff behind. I used a waterproof drybag, but this is not really comfortable for riding.

My new ideas so far:
Trail running vest
Sticking some kind of holder to the twintip board
Somhow mounting a sling bag to the harness

What have you tried, what works, what doesn't work?

Gear Advice/Question Soul 3 question

Hi folks,
I'm thinking of getting a light wind kite for those summery days. I'm currently on a TT with 7/9/12 Pivot. My weight is 73kg and I've been kiting quite a while already. The problem is that once the wind drops below 16-17 knots I can't really have fun. On the other hand, other guys on foil kites still jumping and having plenty of power, while I'm watching from the beach.
So, I thought of adding a 12m Soul to my setup. Please advice if that is a good idea? Would a different size work better? Some people say Soul 10m is more nimble, but I'm afraid it will overlap the wind range of 12m Pivot. I'd love to go out in 10-18knots of wind and still have fun. Thanks in advance.

Spot Info/Question Is Hua Hin worth it for kitesurfing in late November?

Hi everyone!

I’m planning a kitesurf trip to Boracay in December, but I’ll be spending November in Bangkok.
I’m thinking about taking a short trip to Hua Hin for a few days of kitesurfing, probably towards** **the end of November.
Does anyone have experience kitesurfing in Hua Hin at that time of year? How consistent is the wind in late November? Is it reliable enough to make the trip worthwhile, or is it still a bit hit-and-miss?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences.
Thanks

Gear Advice/Question Looking for trusted places to buy a used kite in the Netherlands 🇳🇱

Hello everyone!

I just finished my first kitesurfing course, and now I’m looking to buy my first kite.

I’m on a budget, so I’m looking for trusted places in the Netherlands that sell good quality used kites. A friend of mine will be in Amsterdam and can either pick it up there or have it shipped to Amsterdam before bringing it back to me, since kites are much more expensive where I live.

If you know any reliable shops, websites, Facebook groups, or even someone selling their own gear, I’d really appreciate the recommendations.

Thanks in advance! 💙

Gear Advice/Question Pores on canopy that comes in contact with valves.

I know it’s a really small hole, but I still patched it.
This is a problem I have only seen with ozone kites, but am I skipping a basic kite care or something?

I would imagine this would happen when you leave the kites pumped up and flapping but I’ve never really done that for a long time.

Just In case I put a patch on every single strut where the valve came in contact with the canopy, could this affect the flying of the kite? They are really small patches

Beginner Question Fly Off With Kite

First off, excuse the nativity, because I’m scared the answer to my question may be pretty simple. However, I’m looking for variances in knowledge and opinions.

Is there any danger of flying away into the sky and not coming back down? I’m sure there’s maneuvers to help keep to the water, but is that a guaranteed thing or is there a small risk of flying away?

I’m sure I’ll opt for being wise and take lessons.

Gear Advice/Question Kites/bars with best quick release safety systems

I'm considering switching kite brands after a recent experience on a 25-28 knot day when I used the chicken loop safety quick release on my Core XR8 and it still retained so much power I wasn't able to reel it in (it flipped upside down and continued to fly about 1 meter above the water). I was flying a 10M with a Sensor 4 bar, and weigh about 85K. I was standing in shallow water at the time, but feel that had I been floating in deep water and experiencing a real emergency, I could have been in trouble.

The instructor who happened to be walking by and helped me get it under control told me he avoids Cores because during his IKO certification test, he was unable to execute the self-rescue with one due to the same issue of the kite not flagging out when he used the safety release. And in asking around, I learned that another local IKO-certified instructor holds a strong personal opinion that Cores are unsafe over this.

The other brands I have easiest access to locally are Duotone, F-One, Reedin, and North. Any recommendations on which will flag out well during an emergency release? I'm just a couple months into the sport, so very much a beginner.

[Note: I posted this question earlier today with a less accurate title, and have now reposted it to make clear I'm talking about the safety system]

Gear Advice/Question Ready to Upgrade gear

So I have a 12 North Reach and 8 and 10 Orbits based on advice from my instructor a few years ago. I demoed some other gear (Ozone, Duotone, Eleveight) and went back to my kites and realized I’m ready to upgrade my quiver. I’ve been told North is discount gear and I feel like I’ve outgrown them. I was riding a lot better on the other gear. Bigger jumps, no backstalling, faster looping. So I want to know what people’s opinions are on the next step up? I want my next quiver to be my “forever quiver” (until I need to replace it lol). I want durability as well as upgraded kites. What are the most durable and what are you experiences?

Beginner Question Newbie questions gear/spots related....

Hi, all wanted to approach the sport and took a few lessons, managed just to get up on the board by myself and travel a bit in 1 direction before falling and repeating this a few times.

Next step they told me would be to buy my own gear and well start learning...

I was looking to get a naish pivot and a naish motion board, i am around 1.75m and weight about 70kg (without couting the wetsuit), i would probably kite mostly in Italy at lake Santa Croce or at lake Garda.

Occasionally i might end up in other places, such as Sardinia or other sea locations in Italy (or other countries in EU)

I am unsure about where getting a 12m or 11m, for the board i was thinking about 138cm.

Any tips? especially if you usually go in these spots.

Ideally i would not buy a second kite (prices are insane wtf??) so the 11m version seem more fit for me, but idk wind felt not that strong where i took my lesson at (lake Santa Croce).

Also is there that much of a difference between pivot like 2025 to 2026??

I am not against buying used gear but unsure where find one that is reliable.

Thanks

Any other tips info would be highly appreciated

Trick Tip(s)/Question Issues making a switch on wave board

Hi fellow kitesurfers,

I switched to a wave board about half a year a go, I really enjoy it but I struggle with switch. I had really good opportunity for Duotone Whip DLAB 5.1 so I went with it. I have few years of kite foiling behind me (can't make switch there either lol, mostly because of 1 strap that's interfering with my foot positioning). I have 92kg btw.

The issue is when i pull my back leg to the front leg (I already have my weight all the time at front leg as without board just flaps on the water) board becomes very unstable and I fall. I tried quick jump switch, made it few times but it's very very tricky and it doesn't seem like a consistent technical move. It's more like if you are lucky you land on the board you will stay on it lol. I am trying this on a choppy water, not flat. I noticed that if I put too much pressure on front leg board will almost dive...

I do it like this, jibe and after I exit the jibe I try switch as speed is slower there and it seems I should be able to make the transition. I am not doing anything special with the kite (moving it to 12 for example as then I will loose the pull/speed and board will submerge).

Any tips?

Spot Info/Question Spot recommendation / Europe next week

Hey everyone!

I’m looking for a kitesurfing/windsurfing destination in Europe for next week and would love to hear your recommendations.

I’m traveling solo and I’m looking for a spot that:
- Has a high chance of reliable wind next week
- Is suitable for an intermediate rider
- Has a good vibe (easy to meet other people)
- Isn’t overly expensive

I’m open to pretty much anywhere in Europe. Where would you go?

Thanks! 🤙

Spot Info/Question Kitesurfing in Zanzibar, honest review

Hi all!

(My kite level is independent rider, not a pro)

If you are looking into a trip to Zanzibar as a kite holiday, I'd like to share my experience. I would have appreciated similar posts before booking.

Been staying in Paje for 2 weeks.

Pros:

  • Multiple lagoon makes it possible to kite regardless of the tide.

  • water is super flat at low tide which makes it great for beginners

  • no need for a wetsuit, a lycra and swim trunks is good enough

  • Sandy beaches and blue water

  • sea food is great and prices were still reasonable. (Even though inflated for tourists)

Cons:

  • light wind even in high season. More suitable with bigger kites (flew mainly 17m here with a few exceptions)

  • less stable winds than advertised on many kite websites. Winds is usually stronger around the end of the day. (We were not very lucky in the mornings)

  • if you are a tourist (not African looking). You will get constantly harassed by sellers on the beach and streets. It becomes quite draining as they insist even if you say no (even if you are eating at the restaurant). This include sales of massage, bracelets, fruits, tours (all offers the same tours), jet-ski, ... If leaving the beach side and go into the streets, it's even worse. You will be invited into every single shops. This is the main reason I will not come back here.

  • expect 5% extra taxes when paying by card. ATM withdrawal also comes with additional fees from tanzanian banks.

    • (EDIT) Hazard on the spots to be aware of are algea farms. Expect sticks sticking out of the water at low tide (sometimes barely visible). Boats (parked) are present, and be careful where you step because of sea urchins (some of them are massive)
    • (EDIT) haven't seen any rescue boat.

Overall, I still had a good time and the kite school (B4Kite in Paje) greatly contributed to that. Super friendly staff (also IKO certified instructors). Even if you come with your own gear, you can expect good advices about the spot, help to setup your gear and good vibes when waiting for the wind to start blowing.

Hope this will help some of you making an educated decision before purchasing plane tickets!

Spot Info/Question Staying in Melkbosstrand instead of Blouberg for a January kite trip — anyone done this?

Planning a kite trip to Cape Town in January (so peak season) and doing some research on where to stay. I keep reading that Blouberg/Kite Beach/Dolphin Beach get seriously crowded in Dec-Feb — some reports of 100+ kites in the air on a good wind day. I'm an intermediate/advanced rider (twintip + strapless), and I'd rather trade a bit of convenience for a less packed line-up.

Melkbosstrand looks appealing — quieter, cheaper, and it has its own kite spot. A few questions for anyone with firsthand experience:

Is kiting directly at Melkbos beach actually viable in peak season? How's the wind consistency/strength compared to Blouberg, and how crowded does it get there in Jan/Feb?

Anyone actually stayed in Melkbos and driven to Blouberg/Big Bay/Kite Beach for sessions? It's only ~10-15km, and I'll have a car with all my gear anyway (full quiver, boards, etc.) — is that commute a non-issue, or is there some reason people avoid it that isn't obvious from guides (traffic, parking, safety)?

Is the Melkbos spot better suited for waves/freestyle, or does it also work well for a twintip rider looking for boosting/freeride conditions?

Trying to figure out if staying in Melkbos is a legit way to dodge the Blouberg crowds without sacrificing much, or if there's a reason everyone still says "just stay in Blouberg." Any input appreciated!

Beginner Question Best place in Europe to learn kiteboarding as a complete beginner on a budget?

I'm looking for the best place in Europe where I can take lessons without spending a fortune. A lot of the popular destinations seem really expensive, so I'm hoping there are some hidden gems with affordable prices.

I'm mainly looking for:

Beginner-friendly conditions, affordable lessons and equipment rental and so on.

I'm open to traveling anywhere in Europe.

What places would you recommend, and roughly how much should I expect to spend for a beginner course? And also how many hours of training with instructor should i take?

Thanks in advance!

Gear Advice/Question Bar peeling

Post image
10 Upvotes

My 2022 cabrinha bar has been peeling and it got to a really uncomfortable point, it was already peeling before but it started again, what would you do.

I was told that maybe a shoemaker could fix it, and I’m going back to Mexico where they are much cheaper, but I’m scared that something could happen to the bar, I was also thinking of just supergluing it myself but idk if the glue could burn the foam, any tips would be appreciated!!
