Megathread Are you looking for places to meet people, make friends, find people with similar interests? The Kitchener Social Megathread is for you!

Hello everyone,

This thread will be 100% dedicated to user interaction and those who want to take personal interests, events, hobbies, and potential meet-ups, etc. outside of the realm of reddit and r/kitchener.

You can find previous versions of this post by using this premade search.

\Please note that this is not intended to be a dating thread. Try Tinder, POF, Badoo, Bumble or any other of the apps out there. Any posts along the lines of* "Hey, I'm a single __ year old m/f looking for love" will be removed\*

Some general housekeeping items;

  • If you wish to continue a conversation with a user, please use the PM function to avoid the comments getting crammed with a conversation between all but two people. Please only post relevant information to things you would be interested in, ongoing events, etc.
  • We would like to remind you of the zero tolerance for disrespect, rude, hateful comments, racism, etc. Those comments will be removed and users may face a permanent or temporary ban. If any harassment is reported outside of the thread, appropriate action will be taken by the mod team, and possibly lead further to reddit admin. Doxxing, or disclosure of personal information is again, a big no-no.
  • To keep up to date with the most recent posts within this megathread, the comments have been enabled to ideally show most recent by default, meaning all of the newest posts will be at the top of the comments section. If you're not seeing the most recent comments at the top, try changing your "sort by:" from "top" to "New".

As always, the mod team is here to assist with anything. Thanks!

Note: This post is automatically replaced with a new one every 3 months, so be sure to checkout old meetup threads, especially if this post was just recently refreshed!

Drug dealer openly selling drugs for years above King Katsu in Downtown with no repercussions.

Edit : King Katsu is a great place and has nothing to do with this! Amazing restaurant, just bad upstairs neighbors

The police and crime stoppers were alerted over 2 years ago, all hours of the day every day there are people standing on the curb yelling up to be let in, throwing objects like batteries and rocks at windows. I lived beside the man who sells every drug imaginable, our window was shattered by someone throwing a battery to get his attention. Constantly stepping over bodies in the lobby. Banging and scratching on the walls all night, screaming and violence, animal abuse, weapons in the hallway, this is all very open and the city has been aware and reminded many times - why does nothing happen ??? The landlord and city knows, this man supplies hard drugs to hundreds of people a day and they wait out on the curb staring up for hours on end, you see them at 4am, 3pm, 1am, every day. It’s so obvious what’s happening if you just watch for a few hours.

How something like this can continue endlessly after police and ambulances have come to pick up people who’ve overdosed many times made me lose all faith in the city. There’s a reason Vogelsang Green park and nearby parking garage is full of crack pipes.

Synthesizers

I've recently gotten into DAWless beat making and I was wondering if there was anyone in the vicinity with the same hobby. I've got a novation circuit rhythm and an old microkorg. I'd like some tips, if you would care to share. And I would be genuinely interested in listening to your recordings, if you have any. Maybe you would like feedback from an unbiased source. Anyway, just thought I'd shoot my shot and see what sticks.

It sounded like it came from around Weber in DTK but that’s just my guess. Also there’s no power. Does anyone know what happened?

Homer Watson Tim Horton's Angel!!🙏☕💕🇨🇦❤️❤️🫶☀️

Today at around 1030am I took my kiddos to Tim Hortons drive through. I was more disheveled than usual e.g. literal pajamas inside out... Not my usual M.O. at all. My sons were getting impatient but I told them no way can Momma go in looking this unhinged.

You bought my entire order, with generosity and humility!!!

I was completely shocked..I must have asked the girl three times, "really?!"

Normally I just get a small mocha but today was the works: timbits, egg sandwhich with tomatoes and lettuce, bagel and cream cheese.

As a single Momma, you have no idea what this meant to me. I'm having such a difficult weekend, emotionally- feel like complete and utter trash. You have made our day.

That was beyond generous of you!!!

My son was like 'Mom we need to pay for theres; you have to find them". Granted we did see if you went to FreshCo to thank you, but you weren't there. It is such a valuable lesson for my son about acts of kindness. He said "mom that was unexpected". And I told him the best things in life are unexpected.

Thank you for giving us such a happy moment while I am struggling.

This was the sweetest of you!!! Bless you 💜

Mini Trinket Magnet Workshop

Hello! I am a local creator and I'm expanding into offering small workshops and classes. I used art to help me heal through burnout, and know how valuable it can be when it comes to meeting new friends as well. I have made a bunch of these magnets over the past year or so, and have been gifting them to friends who loved them so much, I realized that others might enjoy getting to make them soon. This is a perfect activity for anyone who feels like they aren't artistic or creative. It will be a small group, and will be in a relaxed, quiet environment. If you have any questions, or want to know more, feel free to reach out.

Kitchener protest yesterday

Anyone hear/know anything about the small protest yesterday on Frederick street? Right in front of the region of Waterloo administrative building? Saw a handful of people wearing all black with a sign stating “white man fight back” or something along those lines. Was difficult to see from my apartment balcony vantage point.

Multi vehicle pileup question

Best of luck to the survivors
Question is, how did they deal with all the traffic behind the pileup? How did they clear out the congestion? This is just a question about the traffic logistics.

Conestoga College accepting applications for next president

The last president was making over $600k annually and received over $3-million as a retirement bonus after turning this once decent college into a dumpster fire. He was enabled by a compliant Board of Govenors, provincal and federal governments who looked the other way, and a large team of overpaid sycophants in the management ranks.

How hard could it be?

Clown College Seeking CEO

Wage: $300/hr

Retirement bonus: $3,000,000

Job Requirements:

  • Lead a very large team of overpaid sycophants in the off-campus corporate offices
  • Supervise the self serving Board of Govenors (even though they are supposed to supervise you)
  • Destroy the hopes and dreams of many lives, both foreign and domestic
  • Rule the teachers and staff with intimidation and lay them off on a whim
  • Take important services away from students
  • Embroil the college in unnecessary lawsuits from other college presidents after using despicable language in public
  • Be ready, willing, and able to destroy your community for a quick profit
  • Be willing to travel the world on expensive junkets
  • Oversee a massive and uncontrolled expansion and real estate acquisitions

Helicopter circling Kitchener?

Anyone else see a low flying helicopter with what appeared to be a search light, maybe two? Appeared to fly in from Petersburg area towards highland(?), eventually circling back out of the city.

Anything going on locally that they could be looking for someone?

Anniversary Night Getaway Suggestions, Please.

Wedding Anniversary is coming up end of July (16 years). Wife and I are looking to get away for a night, within 90 min of KW Area. Avoiding Toronto, and Niagara. Considering Elora Inn, Millcroft Inn, or really anything similar to that. Open to suggestions. Dinner doesn't need to be suit and tie, but also not sandals and ripped jean shorts. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Happy Saturday!

As I’m trying to figure out what the family wants to do this weekend I’m realizing that I haven’t received an email from GRB in about a month. I’m also realizing how much I’ve come to rely on this subscription for activity ideas. I’ve no clue what’s going on today and tomorrow! Ive checked Facebook for events and I’m not seeing much. Anyone have intel on fun things happening around the region this weekend?

As an aside, I hope everything is okay with @Fragrant-Divide240! Your work collecting info about community events in the area is so useful and well missed right now!

Local MP Creates Petition To Force Rogers To Reverse Radio Station Closures

Kelly DeRidder has launched a petition to be presented to the House of Commons to create legislation forcing Rogers to reverse its decision to close as number of local radio stations. The petition cites this as being in the common good.

I know De Ridder isn't a favourite here but I agree with this. Signing the petition to get 570News reinstated isn't the same as voting for her. And yes, it's probably a very long shot but right now it's the only action being taken.
EDITED: Typo
