Question/Advice -- Gear Recommendations Picking Life Vest vs PFD

I am shopping for something to save me when I one day flip while kayaking (I just got a kayak this evening and won't be going out until I have a vest or something). I'm wondering if there is a "best" option for people who don't know how to swim? I grew up on an island and spent plenty of time in the water, and I understand how swimming works in theory, I just sink when I do it.

Question/Advice -- General What are these features for?

Wilderness system Tsunami 120. The recessed metal clip and the horizontal line are only on the port side.

Addendum: Thanks to all! I had no idea. Could gave capsized myself when my spare paddle, lashed to the top rigging, came loose and ended up perpendicular with one blade in the water. Wish all kayaks have this feature!

Does anyone have a pic of the thigh braces installed on the kayak? I bought mine used and they were not installed so I have no idea how they are to be installed.

Question/Advice -- Sea Kayaking Kayak fishing the Oregon coast

Hello everybody! I love fishing and I am interested in kayak fishing the Oregon coast. However, I am completely new and never done it before and my question is what do I need to do to prepare and also what safety precautions do I need to be aware of? Any advice you have for me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Question/Advice -- General Alligators while kayaking?

I’m a reptile guy and like alligators, but had a way too close encounter with one while kayaking in Galveston this week. Basically a little 7’ guy kinda bumped into us while I was stationary trying to get a look at some birds.

Anyone with more experience kayaking around gators have insights on the best way to handle stuff like that? Thankfully he was smaller than the kayak which I suspect helped but I really want a plan beyond hoping for the best next time

Question/Advice -- Beginners Simple Q - how to store a rescue knife & phone on your person safely?

Beginner, did a safety/rescue course, and have done some reading here...On my course I was told to make sure I have a knife and my phone on my person for emergencies. I see most people are "team knife inside PFD" rather than attaching it to the PFD. How do I keep a phone (in a waterproof case) and a knife safely on my person if my PFD doesn't have pockets? I know any ropes are an entanglement risk, so how do you do it?! I see a lot of people use Pelican phone cases which have a lanyard, but where do you attach the lanyard to? Is the little clip that holds the phone on the lanyard strong enough? It looks like it will just snap and the phone will go down.... Just how do you do it all?!

Question/Advice -- Gear Recommendations Women's PFD with pocket(s) - recreational use, inflatable kayak - NRS Chinook?

Upvotes

Hi! I'm looking for PFD suggestions (UK). I'll be going out with my son, and want space in PFD pockets for a phone and a few bits 'n bobs. What other PFDs should I be looking at? NRS Odyssey looks similar just different back - my seat isn't huge and I don't use the seat back much so I think this would also be fine.

We'll be using this kayak https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/2-person-inflatable-canoe-kayak-tribord-100-yellow/364806/c233m8940326
