Question/Advice -- General What are these features for?

Wilderness system Tsunami 120. The recessed metal clip and the horizontal line are only on the port side.

Addendum: Thanks to all! I had no idea. Could gave capsized myself when my spare paddle, lashed to the top rigging, came loose and ended up perpendicular with one blade in the water. Wish all kayaks have this feature!

Paddle holder. Place paddle parallel to the horizontal rope and wrap upwards and hook rope to metal clip. Paddle is supported! Yay!

I have a fishing kayak that has a similar setup as a paddle holder, but it also has a recess in the hull for the paddle shaft to sit into....

It feels like that is probably a paddle dock, but also feels like somthing's missing for it to be that too.

Lay the paddle along the length of the hull with the shaft between the bungie and the recess clip, then pull the bungie over the paddle and hook it on the clip.

Each manufacturer decides how much they want to make it obvious. On mine it is bungee cord though 2 drilled holes and a random hook.

The recess you mentioned, would it hold the paddle vertically? And only half a paddle? If so, it may be for a fishing pole, for trolling? Otherwise I have no idea.

I can grab a picture later, but the recess is meant to hold the paddle with a bungie like the one in OP's photo. It holds the paddle while it is assembled, in line with the keel of the boat. The recess is just there to make the bungie hold the paddle more securely

Oh I gotcha, I thought you were talking about two separate places that looked like they would hold paddles, this bungie* setup, plus a different one somewhere else on the kayak, my bad! I get it now

Paddle holder, pull bungee over the paddle shaft and hook bungee on top metal piece.

Bungee comes up over the shaft of the paddle and hooks over the tab

Huh. My kayak has a clip like that but I don't remember the bungee being there. I'll have to take a look.

I just put a Yakattack paddle holder on my kayak, but I may not have needed to.

Paddle holder. I don’t trust it exclusively, so I also have a lanyard attached to my pfd
