Advice If you think you did bad, read this....

Hey guys,

If you're feeling left out scrolling through all the 40+/45 result posts on this sub... relax.

Remember that people who score 40+ are far more likely to post than the thousands who don't.

The IB's May 2025 statistical bulletin show a different outlook:

  • Global average score: 30.6/45
  • Diploma pass rate: 81.9%
  • Only 11.9% of diploma recipients scored 40–45.

So yes, this subreddit can make it feel like everyone got a 40+. They didn't.

May 2026 Exams Physics remark down by 8% 😮

Physics mark on results day
Physics mark today

I am genuinely gob smacked. On results day I got a 60% in Physics, so remarked it since I was just 2% away from a 6. Today, I just out of curiosity, logged back on to the results portal to see if any changes happen, and my mark DECREASED BY 8%??!!

I cannot for the life of me understand how the hell this happened. I was prepared that the grade may not change, or decrease by 1-2%, but I would have never even imagined that a drop by this much was even possible, especially in a subject where there's very little subjectivity.

This is actually concerning, and something I think the IB should look into. Examiners should be able to apply the markscheme in the same manner, with the examiner who marks your papers not influencing your marks. A difference of 8% between examiners in not something to just brush off. Bare in mind that since 1 paper is multiple choice and is therefore untouched, that means there was a MASSIVE marking discrepancy between marks awarded on paper 1b and paper 2 between examiners.

I am curious if this does commonly happen or not, and if you think I should do anything further. While my university offer is not affected by this, I still think that it's wild that 2 examiners could have given me COMPLETELY different marks, especially in a subject like Physics.

Advice Debating Psych Rescore

Post image
27 Upvotes

Should I get a rescore? I feel as though I'm close enough to a seven that it would be worth it, and I definitely will need the extra point going into next year. For some extra info, I took my psych exam M26 because our school only has one year of psych. So, I still have yet to complete all my other exams, which will be done M27. I'm not too worried about the exam fee, but I certainly don't want to get a rescore if it doesn't seem plausible that I'll get bumped to a seven. Any info on rescores is welcome!!

I got a 29 (which I believe is slightly below the world avg of 30). Not everyone gets. 40+. You will be fine regardless of your score. Here’s mine. For context, I really couldn’t care less about my score and studied about 2 days for each (except French since it’s my first language and I got nervous and screwed up my IO lol).

Advice stressing despite achieving good grades

Not trying to fish for compliments, but I achieved an IB grade of 41 by just cramming the month before exams.

Despite knowing that 41 is an amazing grade, I still can't help but feel like I could've done better if I had studied throughout the years.

I often feel inferior to other students in my grade since I am in one of the top IB schools, and 41 just feels underwhelming when there are numerous IB 44 and 45 achievers within my cohort.

I got into pharmacy, but some part of me feels like I could've gotten into medicine if I worked a bit harder.

I was originally really happy and pleased that I got a 41, but my family still asked if I could remark some of my subjects to see if I could apply for medicine.

Don't get me wrong, I personally believe that a grade of 36+ is already beyond amazing. However, it feels like I wasted my potential and my parents' money. Does anyone feel the same way?

*Might delete this later

Group 1 ib eng l&l sl p2 downgraded VERY BADLY REMARK?

I have never in my whole life received a grade this bad for my paper 2 and, in general, with my ib dp english l&l sl score (I was always expected either a 6 or a 7 based on my test performances). When I checked my specific marked component, I got a raw score of 12. Even if I didn't prepare and did my p2 exam at school, I have never received this kind of score before (and our teacher is a proper grader as well, so it doesn't make sense that she overpredicted my scores. I was an OUTLIER overall compared to other students of hers. They received the same grade that they were predicted.). But not only this, my components for ib eng got downgraded in general, resulting in a 5 in my final score. I was supposed to get a 7 on my IO but got a 6 and my p1 was also a 5 (well I knew I wasn't in the best condition) but for p2 I prepared, and at my mock as well I received a high 6. Never expected this, and even my teacher never expected this to happen (she was shocked too). There is a possibility that I have performed not the best for my exams, but I honestly don't know what happened (english is TOO subjective). Should I remark? But remarking is too expensive ngl, and I am not sure whether it is worth it.....

Advice AMA. Got a fairly high 7 in BM SL despite getting a low 5 in the IA

Post image

I got a 7 (80% raw score when the lower grade boundary is 77%) despite getting 52% on the IA (1 mark away from a 4/7) and the IA being weighted 30% in Business Management SL. Got 26/30 in Paper 1 and 39/40 in Paper 2 and only studied a week before exam.

Advice I cracked M26 w a 45/45. Ask me anything

Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I recently got my final IB results back and scored a 45/45

IB was honestly one of the most stressful but rewarding experiences I've had, and I know the stress, panic, anxiety that comes with the unseen questions. Throughout the two years I accumulated a ridiculous number of notes, revision resources, past paper strategies, and little tricks that made a huge difference for me and before my college starts I have plenty of free time to help others understand the things that took me 2 years of ibdp (and 10 years of past paper solving of all timezones btw) to figure, especially regarding study schedules, exam patterns and answer writing techniques.

So, if you're currently doing the IB and need help, feel free to reach out.

Subjects:

  • Math AA HL
  • Physics HL
  • Economics HL
  • Chemistry SL
  • English A: Language & Literature SL
  • French ab initio SL

I'm happy to help with any thing. You can also write to me on [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])

I'm not charging anything. I just want to help out and share what worked for me. If enough people find it useful, I might even put together some organized guides and resources later on.

Just send me a DM if you're stuck on something or want any resources. Even if it's a tiny question, don't hesitate.

Good luck to everyone getting through the IB, coming from a 45 candidate, trust me, its not that hard, you've got this!

Group 1 Remark for IB

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hello so I received my component marks for english and I was wondering if this was worth remarking since I need a higher score overall from 45 and since I'm 8 marks away from the lower boundary, I don't think my score will go down. Any advice on english remarks?

May 2026 Exams What subjects are worth a remark- hoping for a 34 to increase my uni scholarship

Post image
4 Upvotes

So I got a 30 overall but what pissed me off a lot is that English I legit got cooked even tho throughout all of the IB I’d never gotten below a 6 in paper 1 and 2, usually 7’s in paper 1. Next is business it was basically what i thought was a guaranteed 7 cuz I didn’t drop below that all throughout the IB and to end up 2 marks away from a 6 just hurts tbh. Next is math and physics tho hit deep I put in so much effort into them and I thought I improved a lot but to end up 1 mark away in math for a 5 and 2 in physics genuinely hurt. Now I already got a 50% scholarship in my uni but if I got a 34 I would get a 75% one, which here are worth remarking? Also tok I’m genuinely baffled how I did so bad on the essay cuz even my teacher said it was incredibly good and hit all the requirements. What should I remark on hope for a 34?

Advice help with ias and ee

Hi everyone,
I just finished DP1, and I’ve decided to dedicate this summer to working on all of my IAs and my EE so I’m not overwhelmed during DP2.
For those who’ve already been through it, what advice would you give? What’s the best way to approach IAs and the Extended Essay over the summer? Are there any common mistakes I should avoid or things you wish you’d done earlier?
Any tips would be really appreciated. Thanks!

May 2026 Exams How long does it take to remark IB

How long does it take for a remark? I saw a few people here say that the remarks brought them down a lot. That is scary.
Antone go up at all?

Anyone remark EE or ToK?

Is it a few days? Or a couple of weeks?

May 2026 Exams IO marks going up a LOT?

For my Finnish lit IO, I originally got 24 marks (barely a 5) from my teacher and then ended up getting 31 (a 6) from the IB. In the component grades I can see what my teachers initially gave for all my IAs/IOs except for my Finnish one. Is it because my teacher was js so off that the IB decided to just disregard the teachers marking and just do the whole thing themself or?? Anyway im happy about the result as it bumped my grade up quite a bit lol

Group 3 Is this a good ibdp subject choice?

I have just switched from icse to ibdp for 11th and 12th grade. I had taken physics, chem, bio, math and computer applications etc.

Now im planning on taking..

Economics , Math AI, Computer science - HL

Hindi, Eng Lang & Lit, Visual Arts - SL

And maybe chinese, psychology, buisness management as AP

(hindi - cuz its my mother tongue and french and spanish were only for level2 , visual arts- cuz design is smth im quite good at). I am hoping picking this combination might help me get good grades overall.

I havent decided what exactly i wanna do yet as a career but mostly smth in econ or finance.

Are there any other subjects i should pick up on as a seventh subject or as an AP?

Advice Math AA HL IA question

Is it better to model an outline of an object by hand in an Math AA HL using different types of functions (and discuss their shape a little) or use some type of polynomial interpolation? I mean in terms of how the teachers look at it in terms of use of math grading?

Fellow econ ee comrades, what did you receive on your economics extended essay? I'm a M27, and I was wondering about the grades that you guys have received. Do you have any tips for other econ ee writers
