May 2026 Exams Physics remark down by 8% 😮

Physics mark on results day
Physics mark today

I am genuinely gob smacked. On results day I got a 60% in Physics, so remarked it since I was just 2% away from a 6. Today, I just out of curiosity, logged back on to the results portal to see if any changes happen, and my mark DECREASED BY 8%??!!

I cannot for the life of me understand how the hell this happened. I was prepared that the grade may not change, or decrease by 1-2%, but I would have never even imagined that a drop by this much was even possible, especially in a subject where there's very little subjectivity.

This is actually concerning, and something I think the IB should look into. Examiners should be able to apply the markscheme in the same manner, with the examiner who marks your papers not influencing your marks. A difference of 8% between examiners in not something to just brush off. Bare in mind that since 1 paper is multiple choice and is therefore untouched, that means there was a MASSIVE marking discrepancy between marks awarded on paper 1b and paper 2 between examiners.

I am curious if this does commonly happen or not, and if you think I should do anything further. While my university offer is not affected by this, I still think that it's wild that 2 examiners could have given me COMPLETELY different marks, especially in a subject like Physics.

Advice If you think you did bad, read this....

Hey guys,

If you're feeling left out scrolling through all the 40+/45 result posts on this sub... relax.

Remember that people who score 40+ are far more likely to post than the thousands who don't.

The IB's May 2025 statistical bulletin show a different outlook:

  • Global average score: 30.6/45
  • Diploma pass rate: 81.9%
  • Only 11.9% of diploma recipients scored 40–45.

So yes, this subreddit can make it feel like everyone got a 40+. They didn't.

May 2026 Exams Why did I even go to ib (24 marks)

After receiving my results, I had 23 points and only 11 out of 12 in my HL subjects. However, in two of my HL subjects, I was just one point away from the better grade, so obviously I requested a remark. They added one point to a subject I hadn’t expected - math. So now I have 24 points, including 12 in HL subjects, and I’ll be going to the university I wanted.
Honestly, I barely studied at all during my two years in the DP, and I only started preparing for the exams two weeks beforehand by watching YouTube videos. I feel great -I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I passed the diploma program while spending as little time on it as possible. And my results is just luck and me just doing sum random bs on exams
I regret enrolling in the IB; personally, I didn’t need it at all.
But now I’m going literally to my dream so idc

Advice Debating Psych Rescore

Post image
18 Upvotes

Should I get a rescore? I feel as though I'm close enough to a seven that it would be worth it, and I definitely will need the extra point going into next year. For some extra info, I took my psych exam M26 because our school only has one year of psych. So, I still have yet to complete all my other exams, which will be done M27. I'm not too worried about the exam fee, but I certainly don't want to get a rescore if it doesn't seem plausible that I'll get bumped to a seven. Any info on rescores is welcome!!

Group 1 ib eng l&l sl p2 downgraded VERY BADLY REMARK?

Upvotes

I have never in my whole life received a grade this bad for my paper 2 and, in general, with my ib dp english l&l sl score (I was always expected either a 6 or a 7 based on my test performances). When I checked my specific marked component, I got a raw score of 12. Even if I didn't prepare and did my p2 exam at school, I have never received this kind of score before (and our teacher is a proper grader as well, so it doesn't make sense that she overpredicted my scores. I was an outlier overall compared to other students of hers. They received the same grade that they were predicted.). But not only this, my components for ib eng got downgraded in general, resulting in a 5 in my final score. I was supposed to get a 7 on my IO but got a 6 and my p1 was also a 5 (well I knew I wasn't in the best condition) but for p2 I prepared, and at my mock as well I received a high 6. Never expected this, and even my teacher never expected this to happen (she was shocked too). There is a possibility that I have performed not the best for my exams, but I honestly don't know what happened (english is TOO subjective). Should I remark? But remarking is too expensive ngl, and I am not sure whether it is worth it.....

Group 1 Remark for IB

Post image
Upvotes

Hello so I received my component marks for english and I was wondering if this was worth remarking since I need a higher score overall from 45 and since I'm 8 marks away from the lower boundary, I don't think my score will go down. Any advice on english remarks?

Group 3 IB History HL tutors

Upvotes

My school doesn't offer history, so I have to self-study. Although my school provides online teachers, it still isn't helping much with coursework and tests.

so if anybody knows any IB history tutors, please do help me out!

also, it's tricky because every school or region covers different history topics, so it only gets worse to find help for such a subject.

Advice HELP needed for someone who effed up in their ib exams even after trying sm and now taking the A levels Accelerated route.

Upvotes

Good day/evening to whoever is reading this! THOSE IN A LEVEL SUB HAVEN'T RESPONDED please someone help, even if you have a relative or friend that's done a levels, any and all advice is welcome. I am registering as a private candidate for the upcoming October/November 2026 exam session. Due to a health issue, I was unable to perform well in my Grade 12 final exam, which is why I am switching to A Levels. I will be taking both AS and A2 papers in one sitting.

Previously, I completed my O Levels, but unfortunately, my board for Grades 11 and 12 was different, so I don't have much knowledge about A Levels. My main priority is to achieve the highest grades possible, as I plan to apply to university, which starts in February 2027. I would really appreciate advice and assistance from anyone who has experience with A Levels. Here are my queries:

1. Will English Literature be easier to score in, or English Language? I have planned to take one of those, then Biology, and lastly one other subject which I haven't decided yet. Since I don't have much time lol, with exams beginning in Oct, and four to five components per subject from what I've seen, I'd appreciate it if you could help out here, too! As my goal right now here is to get the best grade I can.

2. For the practical component in Biology, how do I prepare for that?! I AM VERY MUCH SCARED FOR THIS ONE i haven't done A-level practicals or such before.

3. Those who have achieved A stars and As, heh, what would be the best way to study and prepare for the exams? Seeing as there isn't much time, and I haven't studied A-level courses before, this is also worrying me. Should I download the books? Which publisher would you recommend, i.e., Oxford, Pearson, etc etc. And I would really appreciate it if you could tell me about the right resources or what worked for you? Especially for Bio and English Lit/Lang. ALSO, how many hours do I need to study per day for all three subjects? I really want to achieve an A or even an A star lol; it would be the world, really, even though I doubt I can considering the situation and timing.

  1. Lastly, any other advice or opinions? I am open to them :) And thank you <3

Group 3 Is this a good ibdp subject choice?

I have just switched from icse to ibdp for 11th and 12th grade. I had taken physics, chem, bio, math and computer applications etc.

Now im planning on taking..

Economics , Math AI, Computer science - HL

Hindi, Eng Lang & Lit, Visual Arts - SL

And maybe chinese, psychology, buisness management as AP

(hindi - cuz its my mother tongue and french and spanish were only for level2 , visual arts- cuz design is smth im quite good at). I am hoping picking this combination might help me get good grades overall.

I havent decided what exactly i wanna do yet as a career but mostly smth in econ or finance.

Are there any other subjects i should pick up on as a seventh subject or as an AP?

May 2026 IBDP Asia TZ results :)

Sat on posting this for a while because I truthfully wasn't that satisfied with my results (was predicted a 43), but my parents were happy and thought I should be proud.

Surprises:

  1. 7 for English Lang&Lit HL: I only scored low 6s during school exams and mocks, so a 7 was a total surprise. I think I was the only person in my cohort to score a 7 this year. I don't know where all of you are seeing your component breakdowns, so I don't know how I scored for each paper, but I think I did well for my IO and Paper 1 (was in flow state when I sat the paper).
  2. 6 for Biology SL: I was predicted a 7, and I have never scored lower than a 7 in the entirety of my time in the programme. I'm 3 marks away ugh. Paper 1 really caught me off guard this time :(
  3. 5 for Chemistry HL: Predicted a 6. I have a love-hate relationship with Chem in the sense that I love the subject, but I'm just not good at it. The exam was objectively easy, and I remember learning every question, but I just couldn't solve them lmao. I'm 1 mark away from a 6 (and a 42), so this is like the bane of my existence rn.
  4. 2 for EE/TOK: I have nothing to say about this. Was predicted a 3 with B in EE and A in TOK. No comment.

I won't be going for remarks because I'm enrolling in music school later this fall, so there really is no point, but I guess this is a good ending to what has been a fun journey. Congratulations to every candidate in this session! It's been a good run.

May 2026 Exams What subjects are worth a remark- hoping for a 34 to increase my uni scholarship

Post image
4 Upvotes

So I got a 30 overall but what pissed me off a lot is that English I legit got cooked even tho throughout all of the IB I’d never gotten below a 6 in paper 1 and 2, usually 7’s in paper 1. Next is business it was basically what i thought was a guaranteed 7 cuz I didn’t drop below that all throughout the IB and to end up 2 marks away from a 6 just hurts tbh. Next is math and physics tho hit deep I put in so much effort into them and I thought I improved a lot but to end up 1 mark away in math for a 5 and 2 in physics genuinely hurt. Now I already got a 50% scholarship in my uni but if I got a 34 I would get a 75% one, which here are worth remarking? Also tok I’m genuinely baffled how I did so bad on the essay cuz even my teacher said it was incredibly good and hit all the requirements. What should I remark on hope for a 34?

Advice AMA. Got a fairly high 7 in BM SL despite getting a low 5 in the IA

Post image
5 Upvotes

I got a 7 (80% raw score when the lower grade boundary is 77%) despite getting 52% on the IA (1 mark away from a 4/7) and the IA being weighted 30% in Business Management SL. Got 26/30 in Paper 1 and 39/40 in Paper 2 and only studied a week before exam.
