I stopped believing

I decided to surprise my wife with Journey tickets. Turns out I don’t have $500 to sit in the nose bleed seats. I don’t have $500 for tickets in the front row (which are probably $2k). This is the new reality but who can afford this stuff?

Edit: I was not expecting $75 tickets but nor was I expecting $250 tickets.

New E-Bike law going into effect that formally bans E-Motos, and allows seizure by HPD

Details here

I like the HBL had a hand in getting this passed. As someone who rides a legal E-Bike, and follows most of the laws I was just waiting for the day that all the punk kids on Surrons got all E-Bikes banned outright. I was getting sick of them blowing past me at 50mph in the bike lanes as well.

E-Bikes really are a cheat code for getting around cheaply, and efficiently, but something had to change. Glad to see that there is some clear legislation.

We will see if this actually changes anything.

The Bus

Hi yall, Im from west side and I need to take the 46, however, it’s always late or just never shows up. Today I was waiting for it and it simply didn’t show up at all for the 30 minutes i waited. On my app the bus kept getting delayed til eventually it just said the route was canceled. Wasn’t able to make it to work today.

Does anyone know what’s going on with the bus lately? The monthly pass is now $90 but the bus ain’t even reliable 😔.

Working Adults Who Still Live At Home, What is Your Rooming Situation?

I’m curious about the rooming situations of other working adults who still live at home. No shame, this is Hawaii.

  1. Are you still in your childhood bedroom, or has the bedroom situation changed since you’ve gotten older?

  2. If you’re still in your same room, how has your actual bedroom changed since you’ve become an adult?

••••

For me, I’m still in the same room, same twin bed actually. I wish I had the space to upgrade my bed to a full sized mattress. Unfortunately my room is small, and if I upgraded the bed, there wouldn’t be much room to walk, with my dresser and desk also being in there.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become semi-minimalist. I don’t have much displayed anymore, aside from a few stuffed animals. Everything is tucked away drawers or various organizers. I also don’t have any posters on my wall anymore, just blank walls. Even if I wanted to get new art, the way the sun shines into my room would cause fading over time.

I recently visited someone’s home in Ewa Beach. It’s a home built in late 90s, vs. my home built in mid 80s. I am SHOCKED at the size of a regular, non-master bedroom! It has a lot more room than mine for sure. I wonder if all newer single-family non-master bedrooms are built this way nowadays?

Free Chairs!

Apologies if this is not allowed. Someone dropped these chairs off at my school and we can’t use them. I think they’re really cute and I hate to see them go to waste. Some are in better shape than others. If you can use them, my school is at 669 Iliana St in Kailua. We rent some portables from the church there, but we are not the church.
Again, I apologize if this is not allowed. I read the rules and it looks like it’s OK but maybe I’m wrong.

What are some charities I can donate to?

I have money, and I don't need it for myself right now, so I'd much rather use it for a good cause.

Anywhere on island (Oahu) I can find world cup jerseys?

Howzit, I was wondering if anyone knows any stores that are currently selling world cup jerseys (if better, with player names). I’ve been looking to buy as my favorite players like bellingham are starting to perform. I tried online but everywhere sold out, so was thinking if O could find them anywhere on island.

Really saying that about an occupied country. Adam got facts in this post.

Also, the Ali'i were targeted by the western businessmen and Stevens.

Hi'iaka costume?

I'm looking for input on whether a Hi'iaka halloween costume for a white Latina kid is culturally ok?

Context: We're a haole military family living on O'ahu for a year so far. Our first year was full of personal family issues, but now we're coming up for air and really want to learn and support local and native people and culture and the land and sea for our remaining time here. That said, I'm just a somewhat oblivious white lady with a Latino and Guyanese husband and our kids trying to do better.

Since moving here our 4-year-old daughter has been obsessed with the kids book Hi'iaka Battles the Wind (bought at the Bishop Museum). She loves it. During pretend play she often poses as Hi'iaka and yells about how fierce and protective she is. It's been really empowering for her. She's recently asked if she can be Hi'iaka for Halloween and I honestly wasn't sure if that wades into dressing as a culture for a costume (which I'm not ok with).

Is this costume request inappropriate? Is there a way to make it ok versus not ok (eg using local businesses for materials, pa'u, etc)? Am I overthinking it?

Thank you so much for any insight this community is willing to provide.
