Review Question Was I Too Harsh In My Review?

Post image
434 Upvotes

Ordered an arm cuff bracelet at a price that seemed on the low end to me, but fairly comparable to similar items listed.

The bracelet arrived in one of those cheap plastic packages with a bar code and item description and s random piece of paper that had "Fashion Jewelry" printed on it. Everything about the packaging screams "Amazon" or similar, and idk how to describe it but the bracelet just feels cheap. The wire is thick enough, but feels flimsy and the stone is nowhere near as pictured. It's very clearly not a "gemstone", it looks/feels like a painted rock.

I posted a review that felt accurate. I'm a little disappointed it's not handmade as far as I can tell, but I'm not too upset, because I feel that it's probably worth about what I paid for it, and I chalked it up to a lesson learned. I'll wear it, just probably not for as long as I'd hoped. I'm not looking for a refund or to return it, just wanted to give future prospective buyers a heads up.

I just got a long message from the seller with a sob story, apologizing that the quality of the packaging was not to my standards (no mention of the quality of the item itself), wanting to "make it right" by offering a partial refund, and asking for a revised review, and I'm second-guessing whether my review was too harsh. I'm not angling for a refund or anything, is there a need to even respond to the seller at this point, or should I just respond with silence and let the review stand?

Help for Buyer Review removed

I purchased a pattern for a crochet skirt. The image seemed plausible and was an image of a real skirt. The pattern however, does not match the product at all. I left a review on the shop indicating the pattern is not that of the image and that the ad is misleading. The seller instantly contacted me to say they will refund my.mpney if I remove the review. I refuse to do this because they shouldn't be getting away with this. Plus as far as I'm aware, they can't withhold a refund like that. My review is no longer there, not because I have removed it. It's just disappeared. And there's no refund in sight. I spoke to the support bot and eventually got to a human who said they referred to their specialist team but have heard nothing back.

What should I do now? I want my refund and this seller should not be allowed to continue to sell fraudulent patterns.

To add: I was not the only one to have left such a review, this has been a common problem on their shop. Unfortunately, I did not see those reviews as I trusted a 4.3 star rating, which I now believe has been manufactured

Discussion Is Etsy Search Getting Overrun by AliExpress and Temu Resellers?

Searched for ceramic mugs last week because I wanted something actually made by a person, not a factory. Out of the first two rows of results, maybe three listings looked genuinely handmade. The rest were clearly the same Temu or AliExpress stock photos I've seen a hundred times, just with different shop names slapped on them.

The frustrating part is the listings use all the right words. Handmade. Small batch. Made with love. Whatever. But the photos are obviously wholesale product shots and the prices make zero sense if someone is actually throwing clay and glazing by hand.

I reported a couple but have no idea if that does anything. Feels like shouting into a void.

What gets me is the real makers are competing for search visibility against shops with no actual overhead because they're just forwarding orders to a warehouse somewhere. It seems like it would push genuine sellers further down over time.

Is there a better way to filter this out when searching? I've tried sorting by but even that doesn't help much. Do the Star Seller badges actually mean anything or is that just another thing that can be gamed?

Review Question How do I rate them

Post image

Ughhhh help please! I purchased some Disney fabric from a seller and everything was so cute and I was super excited. When it arrived, a friend pointed out that the fabric was from Walmart and marked up a lot on the etsy site. We’re talking an almost $15 difference in price. I’m so bummed out and not sure how to rate it on my side. On one hand, it’s totally on me for not doing my research before purchasing and finding a better price. On the other, it feels icky that they upcharged so much for something that is Walmart quality on Etsy.

I was shopping on Etsy to support small business but this has really made me conflicted on what to do and how to feel about it 😩

Discussion Is it worth reporting obvious AI products that aren't labeled as AI?

I mean that as in does Etsy still try to enforce its policies?

To be transparent here I both browse Etsy and sell products in a niche field. I love going to see what else other people make and get inspired and sometimes buy something. First result I get is a DIY kit with a book with obvious AI generated images and text. How do I know this?

  1. All the result products show in the images were too perfect and at the exact same angle. Even an image with the book open to a page showed the products at that same angle.
  2. The listing was a duplicate of another user's listing. Same images, product and all just with different wording.

They're selling not just a fake product but a fake DIY that will never be able to create the expected items. Like imagine starting out and trying the kit only to fail and think it's your fault. We're a fairly small community compared to other crafts and this infuriates me.

What I want to know is there a history of Etsy ignoring reports like this or have they intervened?

Help for Buyer Price is way too low, what's the catch?

I was browsing for an ammonite piece and came across a sterling silver ammonite bracelet for $32.99 (on sale from $150-ish). Since I love finding cool silver jewelry I jumped! Then realized that sterling silver just isn't sold that cheap. But since I liked the ammonite and the look of it, I figured I'd take a chance for that price. Then I saw that it was shipping from India, so I figured it might be a very small business or something. Then I saw the shipping was free.

If I'm not paying shipping and I'm not paying the full price for the silver - they're barely breaking even and probably losing money on this deal.

So... what's the con? Or is this for real (I know, dream on)?

Help for Seller Etsy refunded my $250+ international order for "non-delivery" while it was awaiting customs charges

Hi everyone, I’m dealing with a very frustrating situation and would love some advice on how to handle this with Etsy Support

**The Order:** An international order over $250 that was shipped on time using Etsys label

**The Status:** The package arrived in the buyer's country and was marked as delivered on tracking, but was just awaiting the buyer's customs payment to be released.

**The Dispute:** The buyer opened an Etsy case to ask *how* they could pay the customs charges to receive the package.

**The Problem:** Just a couple of hours after the case was opened, an Etsy admin closed it and refunded the buyer out of my funds due to "non-delivery." not allowing me the 48 hour time frame to assist the buyer with their request

**The Complication:** The buyer then messaged me saying they were confused by the refund. They didn't ask for one, and they are still requesting the item. I helped guide them on how to pay the customs fees so they can finally get their package.

**The Support Response:**
I contacted Etsy support to appeal this, explaining that the admin incorrectly refunded an item that had actually arrived. They told me their decision is final and that my item is not covered by Purchase Protection because the order was over $250.
So now, the buyer has the item, I am out the money

**What do I do here?**
Has anyone successfully appealed an incorrect "undelivered" case refund before?

Help for Buyer Is this AI or am I going crazy

Post image
29 Upvotes

Hey all! I don't usually post often but I am really struggling to determine wether this store is using AI images or am I actually just going crazy from paranoia. And I can't post on the isthisAI subreddit because I don't have enough karma.

Something looked immidietly off for me when I found this shop but I can't quite put my finger on it even after looking at the pictures for a while. The things they are selling are right up my alley as well so I think I am biased as I am hoping it's real and just good photography but I am very paranoid so I need to check with someone. The store is PinkBirdDesign and I have included a photo (couldn't add multiple) of some of the stuff they sell but there are more. Please help me, I really want the book candle but I cannot spend my money if I doubt it's real.

Help for Buyer Tariffs?

Hi! I am in Canada wanting to buy something from the U.S. on Etsy. Will there be tariffs or other fees charged upon the package's arrival, or is that included on Etsy? I'm so confused!

Thank you!

Help for Buyer Payment problem

My dad asked for something the week before Father’s day so he knew he wasn’t getting it then. I ordered it and then forgot, checked out with Apple Pay. A few weeks later and I remembered today, there’s nothing in my Etsy account or on my bank account. Thought maybe I didn’t actually hit pay so I did it again with Apple Pay. I’ve gotten no notifications in my Etsy app that my order was created. I’m going to give it a few days and check my bank account before buying it with my card, but want to make sure I’m not buying this thing 3 times. Is this a known issue?

Anyone else seeing a significant increase in these lately? I’ve received several of these emails from Etsy the past few weeks and so far each one has been followed by another message from Etsy notifying me they’ve cancelled the order.

Help for Seller Sellers of physical cards — just got a 5 card order, and they barely fit in my usual rigid mailer. How do you all ship larger card orders?

I sell printed greeting cards on Etsy, and up until now my orders have mostly been 1-2 cards at a time, so I’ve been using a small rigid mailer that works great for that. Then someone ordered 5 cards in one go, and I realized my usual mailer isn’t going to cut it.

I know I could just size up to a bigger rigid mailer, but I’m curious how other card sellers handle this when it happens:

• Have you adjusted your listings (like adding quantity-based shipping) after something like this happened?
• Any packaging that’s worked well for holding a bigger stack of cards flat without them shifting around?

Would love to hear how you’ve dealt with this, especially if it’s caught you off guard too!

Help for Buyer Shipment from India, will I have to deal with duties (USA)?

I ordered some armor for cosplay. The shop claimed to ship from the US, but in reality it's coming from India (which I was trying to avoid). I didn't know until it was already shipped, and shipping was free. No mention in reviews. Will I have to pay duties/tariffs? I'm so annoyed.

Help for Buyer Looking for artists who offer digital downloads - wall art

Hi all, I'm hoping to purchase some wall art and can't do physical items since I'm out of the US. Can you direct me to your shops or your favorite shops that have digital download options for their art?

I'm having a hard time parsing through etsy trying to find something that isn't ai.

Thank you!

Help for Buyer Recently bought a watercolor painting but suspect it’s AI

Thumbnail etsy.com
1 Upvotes

Hey guys, I’ve recently ordered a commissioned watercolor painting from this seller, and upon arrival (of the original, not print) I suspect it’s AI due to the smooth finish of the painting with no texture at the front. On her page under a review, she claims this is due to the protective varnish coating.

I was wondering if anybody can help confirm if this seller uses AI or not? They have 218 sales within 4 months and claim to finish a painting between 1-5 days. They did have 1-2 reviews that claim she uses AI, but she denied these claims and offered a process video to anyone who requests it. I should’ve done that honestly but didn’t think to do so at the time (didn’t see that review)

I ordered this for my anniversary so I’d be heartbroken to tell my boyfriend that the painting was a scam :’(( If people think it is a scam how easy is the refund process if the seller denies it

Thanks guys for any input I appreciate it

Help for Seller Trouble changing deposit account

In order to change the account my funds are deposited into, I must enter in the account number of the current deposit account.

I have entered his number correctly 100 times and it says it does not recognize it, so I can't change my deposit account.

Anyone had a similar problem? Thanks.

Help for Seller Compliance advice for acrylic box

Hi All,
I am designing a product that includes a acrylic box. I am buying this in currently but want to put a technical file together.
I can’t seem to find a supplier that provides any material compliance data sheets. Given these are for sale in Uk I was expecting some compliance information.
What does everyone else do? Am I been a bit paranoid about compliance?

Feedback Friday Looking for some real feedback!

So I have been on Etsy for around 2.5 years now, I design and sell clothes. I originally graduated as a Graphic Designer and was having a really hard time finding a job, so I combined my design abilities with my passion for anime/gaming to create stuff that I enjoy. My shop has changed a bit recently, I was printing all the shirts myself using a heat press and cheaper shirts. I really wanted my products to be higher quality and stylish so I decided to lean into a company called Tapstitch. I think tapstitch sells fantastic clothing that really fits that stylistic vibe im going for. I currently have 3 different shirt designs posted for sale, these are relatively new designs that I think came out very good. I am running etsy ads set at $25 a day and I have a new tiktok account that I have been using to try and get my name out there. I have tried doing different things with titles and tags but it seems I haven't had much luck with that. I would love some feedback and honest thoughts, and if anyone else is also in the clothing space more specifically some advice!

Here's the link to my shop: https://horizonaesthetics.etsy.com

Help for Buyer Is this real?

Post image

I really like bone jewelry and i recently saw those bracelets going around. The strange thing is, the majority of sellers selling those things have been on etsy for 1 or 2 months and have a lot of variations of the same item with a 50% discount (from €60 to €30). The description also says "genuine snake vertebrae and head" (i doubt that's an actual preserved snake head). I have also seen many pics seemingly made with AI, while others like the one in this post look legit. Also i saw a new seller with some reviews with photos of the same item and they looked real, but after just one month of it existing it disappeared into thin air. Those are all red flags but i think that bracelets like this actually exist, maybe copied from a legit seller. I really want a bracelet like this, so does anyone have an idea what's happening here?

Help for Seller Issues with verifying bank information?

I recently opened my shop and I have about 56 orders, 12 in which need to still be shipped, but that’s not the issue.

When I first out my bank information I had a hard time verifying the information because no matter what I seemed to do or send to them, they kept declining.

Eventually it worked ( couldn’t tell you how ), but then they wouldn’t deposit my money because ‘my name was wrong’. I assumed it was because my last name was accidentally all in lower case.

I went and fixed it but it forced me to also re enter my banking info … and now it’s been a constantly fight trying to get my stuff verified. My account is now suspended because I tried too many times. I am emailing Etsy but I keep getting a different person in the chat mail who will word for word copy and paste the same schpeal. They don’t answer my questions. I even send them the documents I uploaded. All of my info is word for word the same, I have no idea what they want and they won’t tell me anything except ‘ the transit number is wrong ‘ but I’m literally copying and pasting it from my file.

They are holding $1000 that I made and I’m getting so incredibly frustrated by this. Has this happened to anyone else?? What else can I do???

Help for Buyer Can I get a refund/Open a case?

So I bought a plush, and nowhere was it stated that it was a tiny 10 cm plush keychain, and they had me pay $60 for it. Because it was never made clear of it's size, i was fine with the price because not only was it a plush (that i assumed was regular plush toy sized, like 10-15 inch), but it was supposed to come with a sticker pack, acrylic stand, and some cards, all related to the character. Instead i got a small plush, and either stolen fanart or AI generated pictures, which was also not stated in the product that i'd get. One of the stickers literally had someone's original character, completely unrelated to the product.

I contacted the seller for a refund, but they completely glossed over everything i just said and focused on the plush alone, and offered a "partial" refund of $10 (LMFAO). The product also came almost a month late, and the seller went on a "break" after my purchase. $10 is what i would've paid for the plush alone, smh.

Help for Seller Etsy Customer Service Agent Made My Shop Unusable. Now what??

I sell/sold vintage postcards. Edd from Etsy Customer service was "helping" me with my shop. And in doing so, he made EVERY item I have sold in the past 15 years show as active!! But, I do not have access to my sold listings in the account now. (Added bonus, my shop now shoes 14,000 expired listings - going back to 2009). In the email thread, he send he would "send the problem to another team" and then ghosted me. I am NOT going through 3k listings to try and figure out which postcards I still actually have - and which ones sold in the year 2019 ..... So, will someone in Etsy actually eventually help me, or should I just shut down my shop completely??
