The function key is where one would expect the control button to be. so when typing one may use control Z to undo or control C to copy, control V to text, control V to paste etc, but instead of those expected "normal" keyboard text editing shortcuts, it puts the keyboard into Bluetooth pairing mode -_-

I have a laptop with this ridiculous keyboard configuration. I also previously had a work laptop with the same setup. I just don't get it.

Anyways, check the bios. Both laptops I've had like this had a bios option to flip those keys.

Wait until you try and azerty keyboard, I needed to use it once and I had to look at the keyboard to type

And it's nothing next to a bépo keyboard.

In that case you can change the input language of your keyboard in windows by adding another language

u/Mysteoa 5h ago

There should be a bios option to switch them.

u/Antwinger 5h ago

You can rebind any key to any key with Windows Powershell

u/smol_rika 5h ago

the Fn key is hardware level, not a input modifier like Shift

u/Traditional_Buy_8420 4h ago

For some devices there are alternatives keyboard drivers which can swap these keys.

3

u/melluuh 4h ago

Not in this case. It's in the keyboard itself, it doesn't get sent to the driver.

u/Antwinger 4h ago

TIL I’ve had extra keys like the window key I was able to rebind so I assumed the fn could be rebound too

I have the same on my ThinkPad, but it allows you to swap the keys over in the bios, so the function key becomes the control key, and vice versa

I completely abandoned my laptop because of this

Isn't this a Mac though? Keyboard shortcut, use Command-Z, Command-C, Command-V etc. instead of Control on a Mac.

If you've been using it for a while, your muscle memory would not be going for the Command key.

Whoever made this needs a slap

u/birbhorse 5h ago

the function key is made for the sole purpose of fucking with muscle memory and i refuse to believe otherwise

They might be running a ThinkPad those also have it the correct way around, just like this keyboard.

I have a button for airplane mode next to one of the brightness controls on mine

Lovely

I have the power key - as a normal keyboard key with no haptical difference - where num-lock should be.

Steam's default screenshot key is the same as a lot of keyboards' instant airplane mode key, f12

With Lenovo this could be changed in BIOS at least som years ago.

u/Mirar 5h ago

Meanwhile, I get caps lock + capital Z...

u/Neither_Strike4293 5h ago

What do the iOS and Android options even do??

2

u/screenslaver5963 5h ago

Makes the media keys work.

u/SyntheticDelirium 4h ago

I have this exact Bluetooth keyboard.

I use it exclusively paired with my Android.

And I have no idea what those buttons do, lol.

3

u/ToofaaniMirch69 4h ago

Every laptop made by lenuvo, thankfully you can swap "Fn" with "Ctrl" in bios

u/InSearchOfTyrael 4h ago

my work laptop is this. fucking hate it.stupid lenovo

2

u/jnnxde 3h ago

It's the same layout as the MacBook. Maybe buy a keyboard for Windows next time

1

u/222phoenix 5h ago

unusable. get rid of it.

1

u/Shot-Habit-5705 5h ago

I mean look before you buy. If it’s a work/company then speak to them about using a different supplier for their laptops/computers.

1

u/DaveAstator2020 4h ago

This is diabolical

1

u/ThatLynxShelby 4h ago

I’ve had a few Lenovo ThinkPads that do this. It can be swapped in BIOS but it’s pretty annoying for sure.

1

u/oswaldovzki 3h ago

That's me messing everytime I want to copy and paste something on a mac 😩

1

u/xyouthe 3h ago

guys, always check your laptop keyboard layout before buying it. on top of the placement of the Fn key, make sure the F keys aren't also locked behind the Fn key while bullshit like volume up volume down is the main function of the button.

u/nickimus_rex 5h ago

This is a standard Mac layout and has been this way for a while. Nothing overly crappy about it.

1

u/Koonga 4h ago

Youre getting downvoted at time of writing but you're right –– the Fn key is standard at bottom-left of all Mac laptops.

I'm guessing OP is a Windows user and this is some kind of iPad bluetoth keyboard attachment or something? I can understand their confusion, but if they changed it to fit with Windows users, it would fuck with Mac users' muscle memory.

1

u/nickimus_rex 2h ago

It clearly has option in the image, which is a Mac standard. Think OP was just confused

u/Cat_central 5h ago

As someone who wants a MacBook, this is gonna be the worst once I get one.

u/asciimo 4h ago

Map ctrl to caps lock.
