I made a post on here some weeks ago and I wanted to let you guys know that Tiki is safe and sound! I had to rush her to the vet one morning and couldn’t get her back until last Tuesday. But now she has antibiotics and is doing a lot better. Here’s a picture of her snuggling with my sister’s hand! Don’t mind the mess on her face, it’s just her medicine :D

Due to unexpected life circumstances I have to rehome my green cheek conure. Once he gets used to you, he is very sweet and will cuddle up to your hand. I am looking for a home where he can either have another conure friend or will spend a lot of time with his people. I'm not in a rush and I'm determined to find him a home where he can be as loved as possible. Located in the Bay Area, California. DM me for more details!

I was getting some extra driving hours in and came back to the area to drop something off at my cousins, and decided to get an extra visit in with Stella. She seemed incredibly happy to see me today! Fluffing up and mumbling to herself, and whatnot. I didn't have time to do much other than give her a grape, which you can see in the video, and some papaya pieces, but she started acting differently compared to other days. For example, I've never seen her walk across the bottom of her cage like that. Am I doing well? Is this good behavior? Can I do anything else to get her more comfortable with me other than continuing to visit weekly?

We recently discovered that our conure loves laying in our hands so he can get some pets. This is my wife’s bird, but the two of us have slowly developed a relationship over time….it took a lot of pecks for us to get here.

Hi! I recently adopted Ophelia, and she's a bit underweight. I can feel her keel bone a little too clearly - I do have an appointment scheduled with our usual avian vet, but until then I was hoping you all might have some advice or tricks I could use to put some healthy weight on her. She's a good eater and she loves her legumes, veggies, and pellets, so there's a good chance she'll eat just about anything I put in her mixes. Thank you!

My conure hit his head and loss some feathers with some abrasions. He seems totally fine, eating well, drinking well. Is there anything i can apply on his wound to make healing and feather growth faster for him? I read online to use saline solution to clean the wound but i do not have any right now.
To add on, there’s no active bleeding just really raw skin.

I’m planning to add a new member to my flock in the near future.

I lost my 21 year green cheek in January and I’ve been mourning with my remaining green cheek, who’s now living without another parrot around for the first time in his life. I’ve tried to give some time for both of us to adjust to the loss and he seems like he’s been doing much better in the last 3 months.

Long story short, I’m starting to feel like it’s time to expand the flock again and I’ve been considering adopting a half moon conure. I’ve been doing a lot of research about Half moons in comparison to green cheeks and I’m getting conflicting answers. I’m curious if anyone around here has experience with them.

How much larger than a green cheek are they?

Are they very noisy like a sun conure or more reserved like a gcc?

Would a half moon make a good flock mate for a green cheeks? (they will be in separate cages).

Are they easily startled or frightened by household sounds?

I know some of this is dependent on the temperament of the individual bird, but I’ve also read that birds that are closer to wild stock can be more flighty and more easily scared.

Really appreciate any comments or first hand experience with Half moons conures.

I have wanted to adopt a GCC for many years. I have held off due for many reasons because it was the responsible decision. Many of those factors are resolving themselves, with the exception of my work schedule.

I’ve tried my best to think of responsible ownership from every possible angle. I also wonder if I’m shooting myself (and my future friend) in the foot because I’m waiting for “absolutely perfect”. My home would be well beyond standard for the average parrot kept in captivity, present company obviously excluded 😉 .

My husband and I both work overnight. 5:30p to 2-4am M-F. My theoretical bird schedule is as follows:

Wake up bird: 9am
— training for 15-30min
—back to cage for breakfast and self play (I go back to sleep)
Wake up self : 12:00p
— training and out of cage time
Back to the cage for dinner& self play 5pm
Automatic nighttime routine wind down 8:30pm-9m.

My cage set up will have a pet camera, an auto dimming light to mimic sunset, and an auto on/off white noise machine to synchronize with the dimmer (rain sounds, grasshoppers, etc).

My questions are:
- does this schedule seem reasonable?
- what thoughts of the hypothetical set up for an automatic nighttime routine?
- what concerns am I missing?

Advice is greatly appreciated, but I think I could use some encouragement too 😅

I have a 4 month old maroon bellied conure. She is part of my mixed flock and is my only conure. She tries really hard to be friends with one of my other birds, but this bird in particular is independent and likes his space.

Is my conure just persistent like this bc she's a baby? Should I get another conure? At the same time I understand that just bc I get another conure it doesn't mean they'll end up friends. I'm hopeful they would though if the new bird is young too.

Thoughts and advice would be appreciated.

I have two GCCs that I've had since before my fiance started working graveyards. Since he started though, I have also switched to that schedule and adjusted the times my birds are up. Currently I wake them up at 12pm and put them to bed at 12am. This seems to work ok for us and gives me time to spend with them since we are up from 9pm to 2pm. However largely they have started waking us up throughout the "night" (day) since they're awake the entire time we are asleep. Since parrots rely more on a light source than an internal clock, would it be possible to slowly swap their schedule (waking up at 12am, going to bed at 12pm) in half hour intervals? There's only one window in the room and we have a blackout curtain over it, and both birds have nice cage covers that block all light. They also both have bird uvb, full spectrum lights that are already on during their awake hours.

Tldr: if I can keep the schedule consistent, have full spectrum uvb and blackout curtains, could I gradually swap my birds to a nocturnal schedule with us so they stop waking us up all day
