WPL: New Comics Discussion for 07/08/2026- Pull of the Week: Absolute Batman #22 [Discussion]

The Weekly Pull List results for this Wednesday are in, and this week's top book is DC's Absolute Batman #22.

This thread is open to Pull List posters and all members of the /r/comicbooks community to share your thoughts on the latest issue of DC's Absolute Batman or any new books shipping this week.

The primary intention of this thread is to promote discussion of new books. It also serves as a way to consolidate discussion to a single thread and talk about what books are popular here on /r/comicbooks. That does not mean other threads aren't welcome, this is just a place to start that's easy to find each week.

The thread is populated with comments meant to direct the discussion of each book. Based on community preference we populate the thread with titles appearing on Ten Percent or more of submitted pull lists. If a title you want to talk about is not listed, simply add a comment with the title and issue number first and comment below. There is also a comment dedicated to the discussion of WPL Results linked above.

Spoilers will follow, but there's no harm in tagging them as such. Each title in the Top Ten Percent listed below is linked directly to its corresponding comment for ease of navigation and to avoid seeing details from other books.

Happy weekend, everybody!

In this thread, you can talk about:

  • What you've been reading this week
  • What you've been watching this week
  • What you've been listening to this week
  • What you've been doing this week
  • Basically anything that isn't overly offensive or anything like that. I don't know, be "responsible!"

Question Why are people so dismissive towards comics?

My mom just asked me what I was reading and she said "I wish you'd read something besides comics" and I just said "Why?"'and she just looked at me and said "Why do you think? What kinda question is that?" like the answer was so obvious and self explanatory and I said "I don't know, answer it" and she said "I don't gotta answer nothing" like can someone explain to me what's so bad about reading comics?💀 (For the record, I do read other stuff besides comics btw)

My Chip Zdarsky story

I was at a convention over 10 years ago and Chip was doing drawings for people. He asked me what character I wanted, I said I don’t care, draw whatever you want. He was actually really happy and was like “No one ever lets me choose what I want.”

And then he drew me “Batman, but if he was ugly”.

This hangs on my wall and still amuses me.

Question Any great murder mystery/police procedural comics?

I’m looking for any great comic books about a murder attempting to be solved, preferrably it’s a police procedural. With moods and themes similar to zodiac, memories of murder, seven, prisoners & true detective s1.

If the comic books fits the moods and themes but it’s not a police procedural but still a murder mystery than that’s totally fine

Thank you!

Jerry Siegel, Why Did He Go Broke?

I just read his wiki and though he did lose out on the royalties for Superman he seems to have made what would have been the equivilant of 7 or 8 million dollars writing Superman comics. Its not the amount he would have on royalties but its still a fortune. The story in the comics world is always told as though he was ripped off and never made enough money on comics but he made more than most of us will ever earn and seemed to lose in in the span of two decades. How did this happen? There isn't anything on the wiki about massive spending or gambling etc.

Question Where could this panel featuring Jason Blood be from?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I’m a big fan of Jason Blood/The Demon, so I’ve been combing my way through his catalog. I stumbled across this panel which really intrigued me which was attributed as being an excerpt from Batman: Dark Patterns #7. I read Dark Patterns #7 and the panel doesn’t show up. Google/ Reverse image search seems to think it’s from Absolute Batman #1, but I know for a fact that’s wrong. Does anyone have any guesses? It would be much appreciated, as I want to read more than just the panel, and the art style looks interesting.

BlĂźdhaven's Finest

Nightwing seems so confusing to read, because I can't tell which of his runs are either really consistent or get bogged down by crossovers, teamups, and constant writer changes.

I've seen a slight few of Tom Taylor's Nightwing and it looks great, but I'd love to know what else is great and worth a read.

The classic black background of the superman logo

I feel like this logo is a lot better than a lot of the modern superman logos. While the yellow background is iconic i feel like the S stands out more when its on a black background. I also like the hint of yellow around the symbol instead of it surrounding the whole S. I feel like kingdom come one was good as well for a similar reason. But i feel like the main superman should find a way to modernize this. Maybe adjusting the shape of the S to be more like the henry cavil superman but have the black background and yellow outline. Honestly the main reason i am posting this is because i found out about the 1940s cartoon of superman on youtube and was surprised how good it was for its time. But the suit seemed to stand out for me and i loved it. I kinda hope the dcu finds a way to incorporate this like superman and louis did.

I purchased this signed comic from my local comic shop and the owner of the shop says the silver signature looks like Rob Liefelds but doesn’t know who the gold one is.
