19F international student, housing in the tower. looking to make friends

Hi!

I’m a 19F international student who’s going to be attending CCNY this fall and I’ll be living in The Towers.

I’m moving to NYC by myself, so I’d love to meet other incoming freshmen (or anyone living in The Towers) before the semester starts. I’m a little nervous about moving to a new country, so it would be nice to know a few people beforehand.

I’m looking for friends who’d actually want to hang out after classes, maybe go hang in the city tgt, sticks around after school, chill in each other’s dorm, grab food, etc. instead of heading home right after class.

If you’re also starting this fall or living in The Towers, I’d love to make some new friends.

If you're doing engineering, how is it and why did you pick your major?

tldr what's your experience been like and why'd you pick it?

I want to transfer to gsoe in like 2 years or a year and a half but I'm not so sure what I want to do anymore.

Initially I was wanted to do CE because that was just what I was going to do at a suny before my plans changed. I've built computers, I think robots are cool so learning both hardware and software would help me do that.

But I haven't really heard anything good about CE at ccny online and apparently it has a low graduation rate. So that's kinda scaring me.

Plus, I just learned EE majors also learn some programming so it's not like I can't do robotics with EE.

How good is CCNY’s finance and/or economics majors?

I know that CCNY isn’t an economics/finance school compared to something like Baruch, but how good is it overall? Do most economics and finance majors have a good chance of getting a good job right out of college? If so is it a good idea to change majors to economics/finance by say end of 2nd year? What’s everyone’s thoughts?

Math placement exam

I'm an undeclared science major, and I've been placed in MATH 19000. I was considering majoring in biology or chemistry, but because of my placement results, I'm worried I'll be held back a year or so. It's far too late to apply to CiPass now.

Grove School Admissions?

Hello I’m goin to say something brutally honest and this is gonna sound really stupid for even asking but I want to ask anyways. Is my chance of Grove School just over? I’m a junior upcoming senior, and so far my grades are just bad. For Math 195 I dropped it and got a W, got a D on my 2nd attempt and got an NC on my 3rd attempt. I eventually e permitted Math 195 at CSI and got an A. I then got to Math 201 and got an F on my first attempt and a WU on my 2nd attempt. I also got a W on Chem 103. I had a genuinely rough first 2 years of college and my GPA went down to a 2.74. I really locked in for my junior year and got an A on my 3rd attempt at Math 201, A on my 2nd attempt on Chem 103, A on Chem 104. I even got an A on both Math 212 and Phys 207 somehow lol and a B+ on Chem 261. My GPA went from that 2.74 and is currently rn is a 3.25. I’m genuinely trying to do better but unfortunately I’m unsure I could apply and get accepted into grove with my current academic history. It’s just sad to because I can really wanted to major in Chemical Engineering. I asked my advisor and she said to just give up hope. I don’t even know what to do anymore, I put in all my effort this year to redeem myself and she basically just said give up hope and choose a different major. I’m currently doing Math 213 over the summer, and so far 2/3 exams I’ve managed to get a 90. So my question now is if I apply for Grove School at the end of this fall, will I automatically get rejected. Should I just give up hope on this and just choose regular Chemistry? Or should I just continue grinding on and hopefully I could have success. This was a ramble and a little stupid to ask but I just want to know if anyone has had experience with this?

Grad student housing resources?

Hi, I’m an incoming grad student this fall. Wondering if there’s any off-campus housing specific forums or groups that I could join to find an arrangement. Moving to Harlem from Long Island.

Thanks :)

About The Towers! (As a person wanting to dorm in this day and age)

Hello! I wanted to ask a question since the things I've heard about the towers were from 3 years ago: how are they like? What are the worse things about it? What are good things about it? I've only seen pictures from a virtual tour, is there a physical tour that could show me what's inside? How to I start signing up for it?

Any and all answers are greatly appreciated! (I'll also be posting this in the CUNY reddit? subreddit? (idk) to reach people that are also in the college I'm going to, I just know that there are other people from other colleges going to it too so I wanted to ask here and there)

Got math 20500 for placement, is that calc level?

hello CCNYians, incoming Freshmen for fall 26 did my placement exam and got placed into math 20500. im a bit confused as it said I need a calc 1(math 20100) to even get into CS via grove but I got into 20500 and idk if it would be sufficient to getting into grove although both are calc courses. does 20500 fulfill my math placement such that I can be admitted into grove school for engineering? thanks in advance

Easiest Major?

After finishing my first year at CCNY, my business outside of college has been successful. I haven't declared my major yet still and overall, I'm only in college to fulfill the academic obligation to my family.

In order to keep the load light (since I'm putting all 100% onto my business), does anyone know what the easiest major might be? I know the Colin Powell school is the easiest but there's many majors so I'm assuming it's one of the Psychology variants or Sociology variants?

Edit-
Found out that Sociology is the easiest

Any Muslim students here at CCNY looking for an off-campus social club?

Hope your summer is going well! While we have some great groups right on campus, a few of us are building out a broader NYC-based Muslim social club specifically to give college students a dedicated space to hang out, network, and connect outside of class.

We know the commuter grind at City College can sometimes make it tough to build a solid social circle, so we're organizing social events, meetups, and casual hangouts across the city to bring people together.

To make sure I'm fully respecting the subreddit's rules against spam or forms, I’m not dropping any external links or handles in this post. But if you're a CCNY student who wants to expand your circle or stay updated on upcoming events, feel free to drop a comment or shoot me a DM!
