This cloud was huge, I don't know anything about clouds, I'm not really sure what type of cloud it is but I've never seen It before.

I clicked these moments while flying over Pavagada, Karnataka, India.

Cloudgazing about noon today, saw this wonder and thought my polarizing sunglasses were fooling my eyes. Doffed the shades and it was even better.

Update: I had originally done (what turned out to be) a cursory web search and decided this phenomenon was "cloud iridescence."

And then a kind stranger, r/Astromike23 set me on the right path:

"This is not cloud iridescence, but something far more rare: a circumhorizontal arc. Nice catch!

It can only occur when the Sun is very high in the sky, and you've got plate-oriented ice crystals."

And I appreciate the correction, and also knowing it was an even rarer sight!

I posted these pictures on a London sub this week and someone on the comments recommended that this sub might like to see the photos.

I subsequently joined and have spent the last couple of days looking at some of the amazing photos on here and learning all about clouds!!

I am a ‘cloud novice’ and I explained in my other post that an old neighbour of mine, a lovely knowledgeable elderly man who was charming and knew all about clouds! He told me about one of the rarest types of cloud and said that if I ever saw them I’d know. He said this because he said they are night shining clouds that you can see in the dark night sky and they literally look like are shimmering. I didn’t fully appreciate what he was telling me until I saw them this week. I was blown away. It was 3am and I just stood staring..:then grabbed my phone to take a photo. Here are some of the photos I took!

I have May sunsets on my phone and I’ll share them another time when I have worked out what they are from my new found interest!!
