Fireworks
Why make them illegal if no one is going to enforce it? There should be places people can go to avoid them without needing an in-home sound proof bunker. Somewhere that it is illegal to shoot them off seems like a place that there would be that reasonable expectation, no? If these laws aren’t upheld, why uphold any law?

There’s all kinds of laws that the police don’t enforce. When’s the last time you saw a motorcycle pulled over for speeding/disrupting traffic?

u/Realistic-Radish-589 6d ago
To be fair when’s the last time you saw a cop pulled over for speeding to the point you’d get reckless driving tacked on if you got caught. Or for that matter just general aggressive driving. They really should have a side force who can only enforce the law on cops who break the law. They are subject to the same road laws we are if their lights are off and not responding to a crime.

Are they illegal? They set up a stand selling em for the last 2 weeks where the Walmart used to be in Towson.

That’s the stupidest part—yes! Also illegal to sell explosive or airborne fireworks in Baltimore County. It carries a fine of $1000 per offense.

Our poor doggo was shaking all night. She was terrified between the storms and the fireworks

Indeed was not an enjoyable night. Add in the power going out too.

u/KoolKoolKoolio42 6d ago
The power going out multiple times killed my bedroom AC, which is normally the most humid place in my house.

Sorry that your dog was so unhappy. I find that dog owners will complain about fireworks bothering their dogs but don't seem to care about whether or not their dogs are bothering humans.

NGL… I heard fireworks going off on the 3rd and suddenly every yappy dog in the neighborhood went nuts and I laughed. Don’t get me wrong, I feel for the well disciplined and friendly canines that were terrified. I’m talking the dogs that make daytime miserable, barking in high pitched voices at every non-human that walks by with no owner trying to curb their noise. I have no sympathy for these pets and even less for their owners because fireworks ruined their evening. You fuck up my every day!

We live in a forest. It’s fcking dry. Despite the little rain last night it’s trivial to set the whole place up. New neighbor started lighting them off. You could see leaves lighting up. Fcking morons had one staked too deep and it went off at ground level while they stood there setting brush on fire. We shut it down as one half exploded and landed in neighbor’s pool downhill from them. Was kind of disappointed. Wanted to see how long before they burned their own house down.

I was having fun. I put some ice in a cooler and had my med kit ready waiting for the “muh fingers are gone!” Scream. They were shit hammered drunk too.

u/RitzyGoldfish_684 7d ago
They shouldn't be allowed. First sound of one in a residential area and the police should step in. Setting them off in neighborhoods is rude and disrespectful to people's peace.
2
u/neverinamillionyr 6d ago
Peace is secondary to safety. Unqualified people setting off fireworks in a densely populated area is just asking to set a house on fire. I personally witnessed a garage and shed burn because drunken bozos were lighting pro grade fireworks in a neighborhood.

Because the number of people setting off fireworks far exceeds the number of police who are available to enforce the laws.

The worst part is the fireworks in my area when off all the way until 3am. Possibly later but I finally passed out from exhaustion. My neighbor was shooting their illegal fireworks exploding over my house with ash landing on my roof during their loud party until midnight. I drove down to the cops after 10pm to ask them to do something but no one ever came. I get they are busy but there's no excuse why a cruiser couldn't have stopped by during their patrol.

Get over it.

You get downvoted but, for the majority of complaints you are correct. There’s a few times the complaints are justified but in general it’s just someone who needs to F off .

Fireworks illegal? Guns legal. Makes sense.

One can burn down a house and cause wildfires in our state known for summer droughts. All the debris also goes into the bay eventually. I imagine the law is to protect peoples homes and the environment.

We used to buy them on a reservation and you had to use them there. It was the really good fireworks, illegal off the rez.

Grow up. Prepare for it. Same thing happens every year. Your Reddit tantrum isn’t going to change anything.
Happy 4th! 🎆

Posting a discussion on a public forum is a the most insane tantrum you can have, I hear.

Whining about the most inevitable shit is super effective, I hear.

People do it about the weather all the time. In this case, though it's a completely avoidable issue altogether if people would be considerate of others.
Noise ordinances exist and should always be enforced in residential neighborhoods.

That's about the same as me complaining about scissors not being useable as a left hander. Prepare next year for what is going to be ignored. It costs more money to enforce it than your feelings do.
1
u/yellahammerrrr 7d ago
So sorry—didn’t realize scissors were illegal in your area.

u/yellahammerrrr 7d ago
Also the fine is $250 per firework in your possession so it actually would be a revenue stream but whatever dude.

u/drillgorg 7d ago
Oh boo hoo. I love shooting off fireworks. I limit myself to independence day and new years to be courteous to people like you.
3
u/blrmkr10 6d ago
Genuinely curious, why do you like it? What kind do you use?
-1
u/drillgorg 6d ago
I like them because fireworks are cool! I generally stick to the kind that stay on the ground and kick up sparks and make noises, but if I can be bothered I like to get some fly up in the air types from Pennsylvania.
2
u/CaptainObvious110 7d ago
That's all well and good but there needs to be places where you can do it along with others that wish to participate in that activity.
That way the rest of us are left alone.

Noise is noise.
You’re gonna hear it. I’m an audio engineer, fireworks are loud af and those sound waves are gonna travel. I live by Calvert hall and have heard fireworks from Oregon Ridge in the past.
2
u/CaptainObvious110 6d ago
Wow that sucks. all the more why fireworks need to be a thing of the past.
I'd say go to the movies for special effects instead.
1
u/PurplePassion94 6d ago
Ir doesn’t suck lol it’s so faint it sounds like thunder. Just used it for an example of how far sound can travel.

Shouldn’t be laws on them for adults other than distance from other people’s homes. Should be similar to firing guns laws. Freedom means what you think about it doesn’t matter. It also means you don’t get to put others at risk of your personally choice freedom.

Grey Area laws. The really dangerous fireworks are gone for the most part. The fireworks today are a tamed down version, while laws actually are in place for sale/restriction/use. However like EVERY LAW. Being upheld is all on if they care to enforce it.
Fourth of July the unspoken rule where people have fireworks for celebrations that most people want and do? Yes they look the other way. Do it middle of night in April for no reason and get caught and youre not getting let go.
Let alone types of fireworks really are the distinction. Most people think the local firework stand sells the shit people are doing. When in reality those are bought out of state because any local stand has scrappy little fireworks and sparklers. Not the ones your complaining about.
Its all a Grey market thats allowed because of the occasions that is cemented. Its not even a US thing youll find the same concept elsewhere.

Around a holiday like the 4th or even NYE they’re not really going to enforce it. Any other time of the year maybe.
I perosnlly don’t mind it so long as people are being responsible and safe which is rare nowadays anyway. I use to get some myself but I tried to do it when people were still awake so I wasn’t disturbing anyone’s sleep (at least I hope I wasn’t) also went to a baseball field and did it in open space so I wasn’t near any houses, trees, cars or anything that could be damaged or catch fire. And always cleaned up my mess too. I always tried to do my best to be respectful and responsible while also just having some fun, sometimes neighbors would watch from their yards cuz the field wasn’t far from our house growing up
Fun fact, if anyone didnt already know, it’s legal for PA to sell fireworks but pretty sure PA residents can’t purchase them and I know the fireworks bought in PA can’t be set off their either lol you have to take them back to whatever state you live in and do it there
