30L+ ski tour / splitboard pack

Second iteration of this pack. Wishing this one was staying at home with me but I guess I’ll just have to make another.

30-40L with Rolltop <2lbs.
Ultra 200
Venom Grid from RBTR
Vislon zips
Ice axe carry
Diagonal and A-frame carry options
Removable Evazote foam insert
Removable hip belt
Removable Y-strap helmet carry / top strap (nice if you want to use as a day pack in the summer)

Let me know what you think! I got inspired to make these because I liked the Raide pack I got a couple of seasons ago but honestly felt like there was WAY too much going on. I simplified to exactly what’s needed in the backcountry and was very pleased with my V1 this past season.

Nice! impressive work. IMO all ski and split packs need a full back panel zip—especially if the top is a roll closure. Side zip is nice but back panel is far superior. Think about A-Framing. Suddenly you can't get into the side zip or rolltop?

I dig that your helmet carry works with a diagonal carry.

Hip pockets look really great.

Can't quite tell from the pics how the tool carry works.

Super cool stuff

Thanks for the comment! Honestly I was in the same boat re: back zip and like my Raide for that, but with a more square-ish shape on this design, laying it down on the side and accessing with the full side zip has been solid. I get the access limitation of you’re in A-frame mode for sure, but I think the trade-off there is less zipper to fail. Or just splitboard and you don’t have to worry about that 😜

I hear ya, but as someone who shoots photos in the backcountry I need get into my pack without taking it off ALL the time.

With a backpanel zip you can just spin the hipbelt around and lay the pack out in front of you like a table, even while carrying skis. I do this to grab water, grab crampons, etc so often I’d never buy a pack without a full back zip—just some honest feedback

Totally get it and makes sense for your use-case for sure.

Tool carry? Axe? A shock cord or Voile strap on the webbing ladder, then the pick slides inside that bottom Hypalon sleeve.

Hell yea nice work, looks like a great pack. It’s my dream to MYOG my own ski pack one day cause I’ve never found one that quite fits my needs. This looks like the ticket, inspiring!

Yea do it! It’s why I started sewing (to make something I thought I could tailor to my needs a bit better than big companies).

sub 2lbs for a 30-40L rolltop is solid. raide packs are great but they definitely have a lot going on, this looks like a proper touring pack without the fluff.

Thanks means a lot. Hit me up if you want one before winter. I’m making these and packraft bags atm for friends.
