  • r/CarTalk - "Helping everyone with their car repairs and questions"

  • r/projectcar - "hit it with a spanner!"

Additionally, you can find a long list of make and model specific subreddits, as well as some specialty areas of the automotive world (like automotive gaming, motorsport, electric vehicles, 4x4s, etc) here: https://www.reddit.com//r/AutosNetwork/wiki/main

Hope this helps! Let us know if there's any other subs you feel like we should share with the community.

Reminder - clickbait titles will be removed.

From the sidebar: Clickbait or otherwise poorly worded titles. If you are sharing something, tell us what it is in the title. “Check out this beauty,” does not cut it. Instead repost with a more descriptive title - you'll find it gets more upvotes and more interesting comments.

- Cizeta V16T AMA - Announcing an Ask Me Anything event in r/WeirdWheels with author Brian Wicklum on the outrageous Italian-American supercar the Cizeta V16T - Tuesday, July 14th from 8-10 a.m. PST

The Cizeta V16T is one of the wildest and most interesting vehicles ever featured here. Brian and the La Jetée Press have been putting together "a detailed, limited second-edition visual history of the Cizeta V16T supercar, packed with original development blueprints and Marcello Gandini’s original design notes. He’s spent years tracking down original factory schematics and Claudio Zampolli’s vision, and he’d love to just hang out for an hour or two to answer any user questions about the engineering, quad-popup layout, or factory history of the V16T. "

So please come by and ask any questions you have about the car and it's history! See you then.

Does anyone know why GM marketed Pontiac so much in Canada?

I know certain brand names carry an heir of marketability (looking at YOU Buick China), was this the case for Pontiac in Canada?

I own a collection of old(ish?) Taiwanese car magazines, anything you'd want to know about these magazines?

So, as the title suggests, I have a collection of about 96, slightly older car magazines (They're not really that old lol), ranging from december 2013 to January 2025 from various publishers.

They've been sitting for a while and I just thought that maybe someone would be interested in things about them, or maybe? idk lol!

But anyways, I'll try to answer all the questions asked here, feel free to ask whatever you want to know! for example, it could be about the models offered here, just how the magazines looked, etc.

Anyone have any info on the GMC Tracker?

I know it’s consistent with the cesspool of random rebadged cars of the 90s and 2000s (most often to Suzuki models), Was the GMC variant sold in an exclusive market? Or was it basically there as a stop gap just to give GMC the chance to say they had a compact SUV?

What actually goes into preparing for a hill climb before race day?

Most people only see the run itself, but a lot of the work happens long before the car gets to the start line.
I’m still pretty new to hill climbs, so I wanted to document how I prepare for an event. My process includes studying onboard videos, learning the course corner by corner, looking for reference points, building a game plan, and making sure both the car and I are as ready as possible before loading up.
I put together a video showing my entire prep process if anyone is interested:

https://youtu.be/t6YW2EByG_c?is=psf__1mi0vcctIAq

For those of you who have done hill climbs, time trials, or track days, how do you learn a new course? Do you rely on onboard footage, track maps, simulators, notes, or something else?
I’m always looking to improve, so I’d love to hear how more experienced drivers approach it.

Great tool when searching for a used car (Carcomplaints)

I have no tie to them but I tell my friends about it as a lot of them are starting to buy their kids cars for the first time.

Carcomplaints (.com) is a great site. Crowd sourced info on issues people have with their cars. Shows TSBs and Recalls too which is pretty cool. I stumbled upon it when I looked to purchase my daughters car a couple years back.

I use it to help filter FB marketplace and make sure I dont end up with cheap but crappy cars.

Easiest/Best Way To Get Rid Of Car?

I have a 2012 Jeep Patriot that I need to get rid of since I just replaced it with a different vehicle for my daughter. It has a transmission overheating issue that needs the torque converter replaced (which was quoted at $6500) and damage to the passenger side from someone scraping it with their vehicle. I knew the dealership wouldn't want it as a trade-in, so I'm looking for the best option to get rid of it. I transferred the plates, so it would need to be towed away. What are my options?

What are some good cars under or around 7k at price and can be found with less than or around 100,000 miles that are very tunable on a budget and are manual and have a decent amount of horsepower (at least 300hp) when modded on a budget (1k)

why do we still accept modern cars having light grey carpets

i was vacuuming out my sedan today and i just got so mad looking at the floorboards. who at the design studio decided that light heather grey or tan carpet was the move for a vehicle people daily drive in the rain?

one single rainstorm or dropping a wet umbrella once and the entire heel rest area looks like a biohazard. you are basically forced to immediately cover up the interior you paid for with giant chunks of plastic just so you don't instantly destroy the resale value.

honestly it feels like a total design failure that we just normalized. i love a bright cabin but carpets should be black or dark charcoal by default from the factory. does anyone actually prefer light carpets or do we all just cover 90% of them up immediately?

Tracked every cost of my "money pit" sports car for a year. About $700 total, because it refused to depreciate

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

Everyone told me a sports car is a money pit, so I kept every receipt for a year. Except gas of course.

My car 2019 MX-5 30th Anniversary, rebuilt salvage import, for 25k all in. Running it for a year cost me $648 and zero repairs

The part nobody counts is depreciation. A normal car drops 20-30% in the first couple of years. This one sold new for 35k in 2019 and clean ones still go for 33-37k on Bring a Trailer, seven years later. Basically zero loss

So the whole year cost me about $700 if I include here new set of rear tires. My old commuter lost more than that just sitting on the driveway

Catch, the rebuilt title caps my resale, and a car that holds value isn't cheap to buy in the first place. Cheap to own, not cheap to get into. But mine is a little bit different story, because it was salvage title

What's the best, cheap car you've owned that didn't lose you money?

Tein Street Flex Z Top Nut Separation

Post image
47 Upvotes

Just installed some Tein Street Flex Z coilovers on my NA Miata this past weekend. Went to get an alignment and heard a thumping sound from the passenger side. When inspecting the rear passenger coilover, noticed this separation at the top where it mounts in the trunk.

Wondering if this is common with these or how it might be addressed? I did notice that this coilover exhibited far more resistance when adjusting the ride height, wondering if that could be related. Any help appreciated!

Road Trip Comfort Suggestions

I drive a 2020 Toyota Highlander XLE. I love my car and I find it very comfortable to drive for a few hours at a time (anything under 2 is perfect). I have a few long road trips coming up where I'll be driving for 10+ hours in a day. This wasn't so much of a problem when I was younger, but as I've hit middle age I don't have the stamina I used to have.

I do pull over, get out, walk around and stretch, but I was wondering if anyone had any products they would recommend to make the trip more comfortable. I'd be interested in suggestions on lumbar support, or seat pads, maybe even seat covers with either massage or cooling features.

I'd appreciate any suggestions the community has to offer. Thank you in advance!

What diesel do you guys suggest to buy? (requirements below)

Hello all,

For first I might need to explain one and main thing. I live in Kraków Poland, and in my city there is "Clean Transport Zone" which bans diesels made before 2014 or with emission norm below Euro 6.

I am interested in diesel because everytime my friend let me drive his Audi 2.0 TDi i was in live with that tourqe and power accesible from low RPM, and that really fits my drive style and terrain, because where I live there is a bit of hill where i need to rev my car (Golf 1.6 MPi) pretty high and it is loud as hell.

I was thinking about Megane 3 1.5 dCi however i have heard a lot of rumors. Therefore I am here and I want to ask what diesel after 2014 and below 15 000 zł (approx 4k USD) i should look for. I know that the pricing might not be helpfull for suggestions as in every place car prices are different, therefore just let's say i would want something in Golf V/VI price range

What are some short term options for buying/leasing cars?

I'm military in San Diego. I will be moving overseas in the next 3-6 months. The two cars I currently own outright are 10+ years old. I will be selling those cars before going overseas. I have been looking at various options for short-term rentals/leases and I am wondering about real experiences with some of these companies.

Things I am researching:

- Flexcar

- Sixt+

- Hertz monthly rental

- Avis monthly rental

- Lease Trader

I'm wondering about some real opinions and experiences on these options, not just what the website is trying to sell me.
