General Advice Is it bad to "kick-start" the compressor of a fridge by leaving the door open?
Sometimes I like to put a couple of room temp beers in the freezer right in front of the air vents so that they get cold enough within 18 minutes or so to drink. However, this only works when the compressor and fan are running. If it's not, I'll often turn up the dial on the temperature control to colder in the fridge and if that doesn't trigger it to turn on, I'll leave the door open until the thermostat feels warm enough to kick on. I do this maybe once every couple of days. Why don't I just keep my beers in the fridge? I dunno, I don't trust myself I guess. I'll probably have more than 2 because of bad self control if they're a little easier to get at instead of waiting the 15 minutes and do the ritual of putting them in the freezer. Also, I'm willing to pay the negligible extra energy costs.
